Apologies for the barrage of threads but everyone was so helpful on my Chester/Durham thread.

I'm looking to move. Budget is 700k max but ideally no more than 650K. If it's less I certainly won't complain. Two or three bedroom home. I've no kids at present . It's just me and my two dogs.

I've decided that I want to be relatively near a good sized city. I like museums and theatres, eating out, observing wildlife and just pottering around towns and cities. I'm not fussed about nightlife. I'd like to be in a relatively safe area. I WFH but decent public transport would be an advantage.

I'm also strongly considering Chester(and a few other areas but that's another thread.

Tynemouth and Gosforth has been recommended to me. I wondered about Whitley Bay but someone on the other thread advised against it.

Any opinions on living in/around Newcastle would be very helpful. TIA

I live in tynemouth and love it. so many places to eat and drink and easy to get to whitley bay etc.the market on the weekend is lovely and being 2 mins walk to 2 great beaches with beach cafes is perfect.

my second fave place would probably be monkseaton around the high Street/ Churchill playing fields. close enough to walk into whitley bay but also enough of a walk to be away from any crowds on busier days and not usually affected by the sea fret when the properties closer to the coast get it (although its not a problem and doesn't usually last long on the days we do get it)

Bit of curveball here but have you considered Northumberland? It's my home county and absolutely beautiful place to live. Depends on the lifestyle you'd like

I don't know if this helps but I'm busy writing a piece for my partner's business about moving to the north-east, we haven't done much on Tynemouth yet but it might help. Open to suggestions if you think something will help. ... came across this thread while doing my research and thought it my help

Interesting comment about the sea fret. There was one that sat along the north east coast for days recently. It was unusual. It also stopped about 5 minutes walk inland ( so by park view in Whitley terms).

Might be worth looking at Hexham which is about 30 minutes from Newcastle. You'd be able to get a fantastic place with your budget.

Hi everybody, I, to, am looking to move to Newcastle and I have been looking for a while, as the reason why I have to move it is not the best.
My daughter was recently diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and she will need (or we will need) a lot of support.
Newcastle has an amazing hospital, Freeman, and next we have the Maggie's centre, so I am looking for a house nearby Freeman's.
I got in touch with several agencies, explaining that this is a bit urgent and why, and they have been all amazing.
Much to my amazement, one found immediately a house, in Haversham Close, Benton, exactly what we needed, but the landlord refused to let us the house because my daughter is a vulnerable person with a trained therapy small dog, even knowing that this is a cancer patient.
My heart bleads when someone like this landlord is capable of doing this. The house remains to be let on Rightmove, although even the agency has tried to make him understand that this is an urgent situation, since we need to start treatments soon, and she is too frail to travel constantly.
I am still looking, but it is not just the house or the location, at some point we also have to prevent having a landlord that is capable of dismissing someone with cancer.

Gosforth for me (I’m from Newcastle). There are some amazing houses there.
