If you have a 3 bed house and 2 DC

Do your DC share a room?

Currently my 1 year old and soon to be 4 year olds have their own bedrooms, which means that we now have no spare room/ study.

Just thinking forward whether to get them to share a room. Would be interested to hear your experience and views on this.

Mine shared a room with bunk beds.
No issues.

Edited to add, until they moved out as adults.

My dc shared in our 3 bed until last year when they were 8 and 10, but they now have a room each.

They enjoyed sharing, and I used to have dm come to stay quite often to help with childcare when they were little so the spare room was important. But now they really want their own space.

Own room takes precedence over a spare room/study every time.

My dd’s have always had their own bedrooms. But then there is a 7 year age gap, I feel it would have been mean to expect a seven year old to share with a baby.

It's best if they have their own rooms. How much room do you have downstairs? We lived in a three bed with two children but we had two good sized rooms downstairs and a large kitchen/diner so were able to do various things down there, even had a desk top and filing cabinet in a corner of the kitchen. When my nephew stayed with us he had our front sitting room and we treated it as his bedroom, ie his private space, while he was here (which was quite often). When they were little they were happy to share, it was a novelty they enjoyed, but they need privacy as they get older.

However I know this is a first world issue. There are plenty of families, sometimes including grandma, living in small apartments all over the world and they just get on with it. My aunt and uncle brought up three children in a very tiny two bed house in London.

No as they have a ten year gap so it wouldn't work.

But I wouldn't prioritise a spare room even if they were closer in age. Only if it was literally a spare.
