Bit out of practise...

Mini breadsticks
Quinoa crisps (handful)
Hummus
Lump of Parmesan (her favourite cheese)
Chopped cherry tomatoes
Chocolate digestive biscuits
Nectarine
Cherries

She's 4

Not great
It's just a few snacks?

User5827372728 · 21/07/2021 20:47

I would give a wrap/sandwich or pasta salad as well. And personally could ditch the choc biscuit

INeedNewShoes · 21/07/2021 20:47

The first 4 are all quite high in salt. Otherwise I would think it's fine, You've got carbs/fibre/protein/veg/fruit.

It's not that bad Hmm Maybe ditch the chocolate biscuits. Grin at a four year old liking Parmesan though!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 21/07/2021 20:48

Why?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 21/07/2021 20:48

There’s no main bit.

@titchy

why laugh at a 2yo liking Parmesan?
some of mine always liked it from a young age.

or do you mean you find it unusual but cute?

genuine questions, can't really decide from text.

twinkletwankle · 21/07/2021 20:51

It's a grazing platter for a four year old Grin
Agree with PP, you need a main bit. Maybe put the humous in a wrap with some cucumber

PinkDaffodil2 · 21/07/2021 20:51

Quite a lot of salt, especially if a large chunk of Parmesan is the main source of protein. Sounds quite yummy though! I’d enjoy that for a snacky lunch.

Indigopearl · 21/07/2021 20:51

Too middle class Wink

bluechameleon · 21/07/2021 20:53

Seems fine, covers all the food groups. Surely the breadsticks and hummus are the main bit? My children wouldn't be allowed chocolate biscuits at their school but the children at the school I teach at are.

ForgedInFire · 21/07/2021 20:53

If that's what she likes then I don't see an issue with it. Seems slightly sparse but it's hard to say when we don't have amounts. Today my 4 year old had in her packed lunch:

mini wrap with cream cheese and cucumber
extra cucumber
half a packet of wotsits
watermelon
a small fromage frais pot

Probably not the best but it could be worse

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/07/2021 20:53

I'd have to add carrot, cucumber or pepper sticks to eat with hummus!
sounds nice otherwise

Vetyveriohohoh · 21/07/2021 20:54

I’d go for crisps or breadsticks not both, and make sure cherries and nectarine are stoned otherwise super messy

MuchTooTired · 21/07/2021 20:54

I’d say it’s good, but my 3.5 year olds will only eat beige so I’m really not in a position to judge Grin

User5827372728 · 21/07/2021 20:55

My 4.5 year old loves a snacky kind of lunch, but I usually give 2 sandwiches and then fruit/veg snacks etc

flowerpootle · 21/07/2021 20:59

She won't eat anything mixed so no pasta or sandwich wrap

Lol at middle class!!

I'll take out the chocolate biscuits and replace with plain digestives

Thanks all

You're brave!

Mine would need more food

AdriannaP · 21/07/2021 21:05

Where is the protein? Could you add some chicken or tuna and a piece of bread or a bit of pitta.

Parmesan is a condiment 😅 can’t she have a less salty cheese like cheddar or some cream cheese with carrot sticks.

Crunchymum · 21/07/2021 21:05

Is your child a fussy eater? (I have one and his lunch is a lot more bland than that)

However if you have a child who will eat anything then I'd get a bit more veg / salad into their lunch box.

Will there be time to eat all of that?

I'd alternate a staple (for my non fussy child we do veggie and hummus pitta pockets / cheese salad wraps / tuna salad wholemeal roll / pesto or tomato pasta) and a few snacks. So if I'm doing a cheese wrap I'll send in some carrot sticks and hummus or of I'm doing hummus and veggies in pitta i'll send in cheese cubes. I also send a yoghurt normally one they can tear open so a kiddy / sugary one Hmm and either some mini breadsticks or mini cheddars or a pack of mini ginger bread men and some berries / chopped apple.

Not the best, not the worst.

SantaMonicaPier · 21/07/2021 21:07

More protein would be good

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/07/2021 21:10

I’m trying to imagine gnawing on a chunk of Parmesan, and all it does is make my mouth feel very dry.

Other than that, seems fine-Ian, maybe a bit low on protein for feeling full longer. I’ve always found the British obsession with the lunchtime sandwich a bit odd. If you prefer all the constituent parts dismantled in a box to pick at, who’s to say that’s wrong?

LubaLuca · 21/07/2021 21:11

What makes you think you can't choose foods that will satisfy and please her? You know better than anyone, so there's no need to doubt yourself

LubaLuca · 21/07/2021 21:14

Hold judgement - you don't know what wine pairing the op has gone for yet.

PrettyBlunt · 21/07/2021 21:16

Sounds good.

My 2 year old when I've tried him on hummus acts like I've given him a pile of sand to eat.

Do people still do the typical sort of lunches? Sandwiches, fruit a few crisps etc? For their children in school. Just asking as the children I know have hot dinners.
