Bit out of practise...

Mini breadsticks
Quinoa crisps (handful)
Hummus
Lump of Parmesan (her favourite cheese)
Chopped cherry tomatoes
Chocolate digestive biscuits
Nectarine
Cherries

She's 4

Where is the protein?

In the hummus and the parmesan.

ForgedInFire · 21/07/2021 21:50

@burritofan

My DD6 has been eating the same wrap for 3 years now Perhaps make a smaller one next time
That made me chuckle Grin
Greenlittle · 21/07/2021 21:51

It seems a bit processed. What about boiled egg, a side of quinoa with veg, or rice with veg. And a yogurt with honey?

Definitely no biscuits, they are eeeevil.
Almost as bad as cereal or sugar bags AKA peas.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/07/2021 21:55

I do agree its far too much, that surely could feed all of the kids in her class for a year?

BlackeyedSusan · 21/07/2021 21:59

Kids are weird in their likes and dislikes. DD didn't like chocolate or sweets when little. (Definitely not inherited from me. I am 50% Pringle, the wibbly wobbly 50%)

No to the chocolate biscuits that is NOT ALLOWED at school. (Even though they get chocolate pudding with school lunch)

Have you not heard of the lunch box police?

Frightfully fancy.

CornishPastyDownUnder · 21/07/2021 22:25

inviting lunchbox police you brave woman[grin]@flowerpootle ...Prep was a nightmare of no this,no that-homebaked only twattery..we moved areas/schools and found a lovely primary with a more balanced,less--militant approach. I too opted for multi-mini offerings as mine were grazers not gorgers..and fortunately no-one gave a stuff that the"main item"was replace by3 picky bits!

flowerpootle · 21/07/2021 22:27

Sorry drip feed incoming.

We are off on holiday the day after tomorrow so that's part of the reason for no egg or whatever, I don't actually have that much in.

This has been an absolute eye opener in terms of different standards/ kids tastes/ amounts/ with some strong Parmesan views.

My take away is stunt apple though.

DD is fussy. Very fussy. So fussy that we asked questions about lunch policies when we chose a school for her. I'd be thrilled if she ate that, and the chocolate biscuits would be fine where we are - solid chocolate is officially banned, but DD has taken in brownie a fair few times, and from a distance mine look quite like actual chocolate!

We don't send a sandwich either; my only question would be what will your DD eat when somewhat distracted, and will that be enough for her to cope with the afternoon - this has been an issue for us, as you can possibly tell!

Pieceofpurplesky · 21/07/2021 22:55

DS was a nightmare. I am so working class it's a wonder I don't have a whippet and a flat cap, but he has olives at a friends house when he was 4 and had to have them with every meal. His lunch would be olives, crackers, soft cheese (the stinkier the better), grapes, cucumber and something sweet like a flapjack or muffin.
He's 17 and that would be exactly what he would eat now - but with Stilton (and red wine - no alocpops for him!!)

Dutchesss · 21/07/2021 23:01

Not bad at all.
You wrote biscuits, I'd reduce it to one. And vary the cheese to other proteins some days.
Does she bite the cherries round the pip? I'd be worried if they were having these without me there.

Helenbackagain3 · 21/07/2021 23:03

Dairylea lunchable with a stunt tomato. All the main food groups covered. My DD loves these and she’s nearly 28.

Dutchesss · 21/07/2021 23:05

Lunchables are very processed.

SionnachRua · 21/07/2021 23:07

Ah I love MN's obsession with protein and school lunches. Never fails to appear in a thread.

Honestly if the food is something she'll eat without smearing all over the place, that's all that matters. I'd wonder about if she'd manage to get through it all in time, though? Some of it might just enjoy a nice day trip to school and come home again Grin

CliffsofMohair · 21/07/2021 23:10

@LubaLuca

I’m trying to imagine gnawing on a chunk of Parmesan, and all it does is make my mouth feel very dry.

Hold judgement - you don't know what wine pairing the op has gone for yet.

😂😂😂😂
flowerpootle · 21/07/2021 23:11

This is like a mini pops version of come dine with me.

I had no idea that this thread would elicit more than a couple of responses.

Instead it's been an education.

Stunt apple😂😂. My son can eat for England. He has a sandwich, frube, cheesestring or babybel, some type of biscuit, 4 types of fruit or veg chopped up and i make my own version of them dairylea stack things or he has dunkers. Will still come home starving apparently.

shas19 · 21/07/2021 23:18

Oh and he always comes homes with half the frube exploded all over himself. Fashion statement

WasThisSexist · 21/07/2021 23:19

No judging here but in terms of optimising, no biscuits and swap the bread sticks for complex carbs - a chunk of rye bread maybe?

However, my main takeaways have also been stunt apple and the brilliant 1980s lunchbox pic.

This was mine ☝️

Seems a lot of faff & over-thinking to me.

Sarnie (cheese spread / ham / tuna)
Bag of crisps
Few cherry toms or bit of cucumber
Yogurt
Bottle of water.

Done ✅

Twillow · 21/07/2021 23:22

The comments are interesting!! Why do so many people think it's strange having your carbs as bread sticks instead of a wrap?? And hummous/parmesan are just as valid a protein source as chicken or ham.
I would happily have that as my lunch, can't stand 'bready' things like wraps or sandwiches.

That sounds like a bunch of picky things. You need a main like a sandwich. Parmesan is really salty, so are hummus crisps and actually digestive biscuits.
