The sunlight bleaching out tomato pasta sauce stains thing!

Hung out some washing (thanks previous thread) about 7pm to dry overnight.

Noticed a white polo with orange stains. I was about to put it in the bin then I thought,

NO, HANG ON. LET'S SEE IF IT WORKS!

Just been out to retrieve my laundry and IT'S GONE! The stain, not the laundry

How could I have doubted you, MN?

Sunlight is fabulous. It influences how I hang my washing. If there's a particular stain- say turmeric- I leave the item out extra often, moving it around the garden to follow the sun.

HummingBeeBox · 21/07/2021 08:09

Woah!! Did not know this!!

Nohomemadecandles · 21/07/2021 08:14

I'm unreasonably excited

Thanks op, that is one I have read often and thought "yeah right".
Another was getting mud stains out of white shirt cuffs using a nail brush. Then i tried it and again it does work! Although I used a white scrubby washing up sponge.

Carrott21 · 21/07/2021 08:17

It has saved me a fortune!

I have some horrible stains on my toddler’s clothes and was following around the sun yesterday. Grin They’re only half gone so going to have another bash today. I left them out overnight so need to go out in a min and move them down the washing to catch the morning sun. It’s pathetic how much effort I am putting into this!!
Purplewithred · 21/07/2021 08:19

I share your joy.

Astonishingly I had the same experience yesterday - n’duja pizza juice all over my lovely new t-shirt. I did slather on vanish gel first, washed cool, massive improvement but still visible to me. Hung up in the sunshine and it LOOKS BRAND NEW!

Totes amazeballs, as my adult kids say.

RhubarbCustardy · 21/07/2021 08:24

Ooh thanks! I have a t- shirt that has pasta sauce on and have remaining stain after 2 washes and Shout! Being applied. Shall give this a go. The only useful thing about this hot weather!

Nohomemadecandles · 21/07/2021 08:27

I was cynical. But now I BELIEVE!

I'm off in search of stains...

Not the point I know but ‘Nduja pizza sounds amazeballs too

It does, doesn't it?

And yeah, I can imagine the oily paprika type redness that won't shift from it.

I only learned this from MN and it is fabulous!

You know it's science not MN magic Grin

It really does! My six year old apron which I use most days had many "ingrained" stains until I had a day in the sun yesterday. I am very impressed.

I might try it on myself.

Unsuremover · 21/07/2021 08:37

I was furious when this worked. My mum and gran kept phoning me on good sunny days when ds was a new born so that I could get his whites out. How dare they! I had so much to do, I didn’t need into indulge in old wives tales as well. And he didn’t have whites! He had clothes that were mostly light coloured. Ugh. Big poomani of the yellow baby kind, had caught his sheet, I was going to bin it but I only had 1 spare so washed and dried it until I could replace it. And of course in the sun it bleached to good as new. It’s a strange feeling to be furious with laundry.

tnetenba · 21/07/2021 08:38

I could have posted the same thing. I've seen it over the years and thought aye sure, never had a reason to test it. Now I have a weaning baby and can't believe ve it works.

WASHI · 21/07/2021 08:39

Does it still work if you’ve already washed the item a few times?

Faranth · 21/07/2021 08:40

The important thing to remember is it has to be WET to work, so I get whatever it is absolutely sopping, to give it more time to work, and if it dries before the stain is gone, wet it again!

It really is like magic!

ShinglesOuch · 21/07/2021 08:41

@WASHI

Does it still work if you’ve already washed the item a few times?
Yep, absolutely. Just make sure it's wet and in full sun
Bowednotbroken · 21/07/2021 08:41

My (adult!) son sat in very sloppy sheep poo and ruined a nice pair of denim shorts - very badly stained. My suggestion to just leave them in the sun was met with very raised eyebrows. It took almost a week of turning inside and out etc but it worked!

CrouchEndTiger12 · 21/07/2021 08:42

Washing up liquid for coffee stains and not laundry detergent. Spot clean it first.

Dropped coffee one white dress. It worked !

Bowednotbroken · 21/07/2021 08:42

And these had been washed but were dry - so it worked on dry shorts!

LIZS · 21/07/2021 08:43

Also orange ice lolly stains!

MonkeyPuddle · 21/07/2021 08:45

Elbow grease spray spot clean, in the washer and then dry in the sunshine. Has saved my lovely white t shirts that I stupidly wear around my two small children.

butterpuffed · 21/07/2021 08:46

I'm old enough to have used cloth nappies for my elder DS. They had liners but the stains used to get through. They always used to come out after being on the line outside, itdidn't even have to be sunny, just not damp weather !
