Older kids just called my Grandson CHUCKY in the park!!!

He's nearly 2. never got his his cut during lockdown. His parents have now decided they like it long and its often up in a man-bun. Wouldn't be my choice but he's beautiful and looks rather cool. I just took him to the park and some older boys were pointing and saying 'chucky the child-killer'....and running and hiding. My grandson thought this was a great game. I'm devastated. I didn't say anything and I don't think their parents heard. Not sure how to handle if it happens again.

Welcome to the world, there is worse out there and we wont always be around to protect them

Still, Chucky is a bit random for a 9 year old, I admire them in some ways

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 19/07/2021 19:00

@roguetomato

Would children aged 8/9 normally know who Chucky is? That's kind of disturbing. My 13 years old wouldn't know.
I knew who chucky was when I was little because I had older siblings.

Oh OP I would also feel upset. Like a pp said whether he understood or not is besides the point. He thought he was playing a game and the other children were running away, it would upset me too. I probably would have told them to piss off though 🤣

Bonitalazenia · 19/07/2021 19:02

He is blonde almost white haired. Thanks @toocold54 that's exactly what I will do in future!

I can see why you're upset. I doubt it will be a daily occurrence. It's a one off by some little oiks...forget about it

tywysoges · 19/07/2021 19:06

Was he wearing dungarees and a stripy top, OP? I call that combo my Chucky outfit when I’m wearing it. Grin

There’s a new(ish) Chucky film, so I’m not surprised kids are familiar with it.

LemonRoses · 19/07/2021 19:10

Wasn’t Chucky in the late 80s? I’m very surprised any children currently have even heard of him. He didn’t have a ‘man bun’, is there some other reason to feel devastated by this odd occurrence?

LifeinPieces21 · 19/07/2021 19:10

@rishisboater

Chucky didn't have a man bun he had a short ginger Bob
I've just googled Chucky and he has a ginger mop on his head.
SionnachRua · 19/07/2021 19:14

I teach 9/10 year olds. Some of them will have heard of Chucky (normally those with older siblings). It's still a somewhat popular Halloween costume and there was the new movie too, so it doesn't surprise me that it's still known.

They remade childs play a couple of years ago.

Did they mean Chucky from Rug Rats? He also has longish hair.

Staffroomdoughnut · 19/07/2021 20:17

I feel like you’re getting some harsh responses here OP. Of course the idea of being older kids making fun of your 2 year old grandson was unpleasant for you even if he’s none the wiser. Next time have tell their parents what they’re doing but don’t expect any support from some parents and be prepared to move away. This would have bothered me too.

Bonitalazenia · 19/07/2021 20:21

@Staffroomdoughnut much appreciated!!

I can see why you were upset. Kids can be cruel and show off in front of their friends. I'm sure your Grandson didn't notice anything but a few years older then he would have.

Kanaloa · 20/07/2021 00:35

Why were they calling a blond child with his hair in a bun Chucky? Is it certain they were even talking to him, because it doesn’t make much sense if so. Chucky had messy longish ginger hair, not long blond hair in a bun.

Regardless, there’s nothing problematic about calling out ‘please stop being so rude’ to children if they’re heckling you. Obviously don’t rip a stick off a tree and lay into them but why would it be non pc to tell them to stop?

wallpapering · 20/07/2021 00:44

I would of been trying hard not to reply yes you better be careful as don’t want to upset Chucky instead I’d told them to pack it in.

Honestly I still frog marching over the park to tell kids to keep their hands to themselves, funny how these bigger kids go quiet and looked shocked being told off for hitting mine.

blaisealex · 20/07/2021 00:55

I was in B and M once with my one year old and a little boy walked past us and said to his Mum, "look Mum, that baby looks like Boss Baby!!" I thought it was funny. He was right, too. Then when he was around 2 years old, my Mum said he looked like Ian Heslop!! 🤣

Gregwiggle · 20/07/2021 01:05

Kids can be mean but don't let it upset you. My husband called my son Chucky occasionally when he was a toddler Blush I think it was just because DS was a short smiley running toddler (and DH has a warped sense of humour). I doubt the boys actually thought anything of what they were saying - 9yos just say stuff to sound cool, but I totally get that feeling of wanting to protect a little person from hurt!

plodalong12 · 20/07/2021 01:09

But Chucky doesn’t have a bun Confused or blonde hair Confused

He looked like this (1st pic) in the original and seems to have embraced GHDs and botox in the remake (2nd pic) 😂

Not sure how to handle if it happens again.

Tell the kids off. I think we need more adults calling out kid’s bad behaviour in public.

I'd like the name of his surgeonGrin
HmmmmmmInteresting · 20/07/2021 01:18

Honestly, OP, you need to grow a pair and tell these 8/9 year olds off next time they're bullying your grandson.

Nengineer · 20/07/2021 01:25

@WorraLiberty

I feel like I want to protect him and not have him hurt, yes he's too young to understand right now but it wont always be that way. I guess I just want to wrap him up and well...protect him.

And yet you couldn't simply tell the kids to stop being unkind because you weren't sure it was 'politically correct'?

I felt like telling the older kids (about 8-9 I would say) to pack it in but I wasn't sure about the PC of it.

Blimey Confused

What is the actual point of this response? Rude.
Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 08:16

Op your allowed to stop such dc calling out to your child.
What's worrying is how would such small dc 8 or 9 have a clue who bloody chucky is, that's extremely worrying.
