A 'keeping cool in this heat at night' top tip

I know that the overwhelming majority of you will be fully aware of this tip but I mentioned it to a friend the other day and she was astonished. Had never heard of it so it made me wonder if she was the only one not in the know

Anyway, fill a hot water bottle and freeze it. Pop in bed at night and it stays ice cold all night long. Another tip is to soak a towel of whatever size you fancy in cold water and wring out. Use as a sheet at night

Any other tips?

I think the opening the loft hatch only works if you do it at night once the air in the loft has started cooling. It will cool quicker than the rest of the house as there is no insulation. If the air in the loft is cooler than upstairs then as hot air rises, it should rise into the loft drawing cooler air in through the windows. Open it last thing before you go to bed and shut it again in the morning.

Put a fan on with a bowl of ice water just in front of it so the air blows over the surface of the water. Makeshift air con.
