People are still walking their dogs here

It’s 29 degrees by the temperature app and the car says it’s 33.
I spoke to a man, whose staffy was being walked and had ran to a tiny bit of shade and lay down panting it’s head off, and told him he needed to get it cooled down and he told me it was ‘fine’ and to not be a ‘fucking snowflake’ Shock.
I darent say anything else after that as he seemed menacing and I didn’t have any water on me to give the dog so couldn't be any help, and now I can’t stop thinking about that dog and the other dogs being walked in this heat.
It’s all over my friends Facebooks and local pages to not walk dogs in this heat and yet people still are Sad. What on earth can we do to get the message out?

are you so naive @Lazierdays, to think you can give unsolicited advice to strangers?

Mrswhirley · 17/07/2021 15:54

@HasaDigaEebowai 😂🤣 can’t the image out of my head of your dog driving the mower, DH frantically trying to get out of the way 🤣🤣😂

joystir59 · 17/07/2021 15:54

I've put a big container of water out on the pavement by my gate.

@Lazierdays. You did exactly the right thing in telling that guy. Well done you.

Dogs need to get their feet into cool (mot icy cold) water and that helps cool them.

Lazierdays · 17/07/2021 15:56

I wonder if it’s a difference in culture, but my family are always happy to talk to strangers - my parents could be considered interfering, but I am not like that lWink. I just care about the dogs, same as if it was a child who I thought was suffering. Am glad to hear lots of other people are the same as me and understanding that dogs don’t do well in this heat!

My very black dog is furious at missing his walk this lunchtime
He had an extra long walk first thing on Shady paths and will have to wait until this evening for anything else

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/07/2021 15:56

fab thing to do @joystir59

i took my dog out at 11 this morning through fields and woods, she could have access to water and shade in the woods, and water in random puddles, and someone had a water bowl outside their house, i was so grateful for their charity, my dog less so!

Comebloodyon · 17/07/2021 15:56

Random question but what do you do if you live in an apartment block and you have to take the dog out during the day to pee? Just take it as close as possible? Not everyone has a garden.

ComDummings · 17/07/2021 15:56

People are dumb. Genuinely dumb.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/07/2021 15:57

good point @Comebloodyon

elevenses75 · 17/07/2021 15:57

Someone’s dog died here recently due to heatstroke ours is in and out of the garden and playing in his pool and lying on our cool tiled floor door is open so he can jump in and cool off, he’s a golden retriever so fluffy can’t imagine how hot they get walked in the direct sun with no shade, it’s madness. My mum lived in Australia with her dogs they were walked very early morning and in evening when it was hot or not at all if it was too warm, house had a/c which was so nice

LadyCatStark · 17/07/2021 15:57

@AbsolutelyPatsy

i had to carry my dog in the supermarket since i dare not leave her in the car or leave her outside for fear of face book retribution
Of course you can’t leave your dog in the car on a day like today. FFS you cannot be serious!

Our pup has spent today plying in his paddling pool in the garden and he’s worn himself out without getting too hot.

You would go out within a small walking distance of the house, wait for them to go to the toilet (preferably in the shade) and then take them straight back home
Lazierdays · 17/07/2021 15:58

@AbsolutelyPatsy why are you making so many odd comments? I replied so many times to you and you still keep putting strange comments! Most people agree with me. Better to speak to someone than see another dog die of heatstroke. We shall agree to disagree on this!

@AbsolutelyPatsy perhaps you shouldn’t have gone for a walk in the heat yourself!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/07/2021 16:04

ooh get you and your doggy paddling pool

Soubriquet · 17/07/2021 16:04

@AbsolutelyPatsy

ffs you are all so sanctimonious
And you sound very defensive

Suddenly feeling guilty?

Just go as quickly as possible.

Obviously it can't always be avoided but most owners without gardens are sensible enough I imagine :)

Not because your dog might struggle in the heat then, but just in case someone calls you out for being cruel.
FamBae · 17/07/2021 16:06

You embarrassed him (rightly or wrongly) and his defenses were up and he bit back aggressively, hopefully he will take your comments on board and think twice next time.

elevenses75 · 17/07/2021 16:07

My dog has a paddling pool too, so he can play and have fun as well as keep cool in this weather. Not be dragged round in hot cars and into supermarkets. I quite like my dog and I don’t want him to be ill so I am careful but if that’s being sanctimonious then fine by me, he can’t tell me he’s too hot or doesn’t feel good. Any owner taking a dog for a walk in this heat is neglectful imo

Figgygal · 17/07/2021 16:07

I bought the kids a new pool which isn’t inflatable in case the dog wanted in to play
He’s furious at its presence and won’t go near it
