How worried about getting Covid are you right now?

It’s very confusing, cases are rising, teenagers are ignoring pings - anecdotally - people with symptoms aren’t testing. Not sure how worried to be RN. Double jabbed but will it help?

How worried are you?

My children had it at Xmas and I didn't catch it living in the same house. I work in a nursery which has been open throughout with no masks, distancing etc. If I was going to get it I'd have had it by now. I think I heard that some research proved that being exposed to other coronaviruses frequently meant you were less likely to be unwell which would fit working in a nursery around constant illnesses.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 16/07/2021 20:55

Not very. I've had it once and I've had both vaccinations, as has dh.

whatswithtodaytoday · 16/07/2021 20:55

I'm pretty terrified and don't really understand why other people aren't. However, I have health anxiety and panic disorder (had it 20+ years, had lots of treatment) and I think I'm more scared of how scared I'll be when I test positive, than the possibility of being really ill.

I went in a few shops today and will now spend the next week analysing every symptom in case it's Covid starting. I suspect I'll do this until I actually catch it and it doesn't kill me. (And if it does... well, I told you so!)

I had my second jab yesterday and would be feeling much, much less scared if we had the low cases pre-Delta. As it is, I'll be living a restricted life by choice.

Not at all

maneandfeathers · 16/07/2021 21:03

Despite being pregnant I’m not too worried about Covid. I am vaccinated.

I am worried about the financial impact of being forced to isolate from work again. It’s happened 3 times now and I’ve lost 30 days pay so far.

I am worried about missing important events or days out that have been planned for ages.

I am worried about being forced to give birth alone should god forbid DH tests positive on admission or if either of us have Covid. I’m scared he won’t be able to be with me and last time I really really relied on his support Sad

JustGiveMeGin · 16/07/2021 21:06

Not worried now, haven't been worried at all really. Like everything else in life its a risk but I take risks every day so it doesn't cross my mind unless some tv channel is prattling on about it Hmm

StrongLegs · 16/07/2021 21:07

I think I'm mostly just completely knackered tbh.

StealthPolarBear · 16/07/2021 21:09

Not at all as I currently have it :(
To the pp worried about the second AZ jab, I felt fatigued, achey and cold for half a day after my first one. No symptoms at all after the second.

SilverGlassHare · 16/07/2021 21:11

I’m double-jabbed with Pfizer so I’m not hugely worried about catching it and being very ill or dying. I am worried about cases rising exponentially and leading to more lockdowns, mass school closures or another variant of concern developing.

sanityisamyth · 16/07/2021 21:16

Not in the slightest. Never have been.

Greytminds · 16/07/2021 21:19

I am more worried about catching Covid than I have ever been. I’m 41 and pregnant so feeling more vulnerable than I used to and concerned about the risks to the baby if I did catch it. I am (as of yesterday) double vaccinated so that helps ease the worry a little. I’m really enjoying the relative freedoms, hanging out with friends and doing things again. I worry about losing that freedom and about restrictions on hospital appointments and giving birth even more. This is probably my biggest fear right now.

Bati · 16/07/2021 21:20

I am more worried than I was as i have seen the devastating effects of long covid - my 24 year old son, healthy and very sporty caught covid last Christmas - 7 months later he is suffering long covid and I mean suffering. He now lives in severe pain throughout his body, some days he struggles to move. He has been to a long covid clinic this week and had lots of tests. His lung capacity is lower than it should be. We are waiting for blood test results and ct scan results.
Apparently 1 in 8 people who catch covid end up with long covid, including children 😢

ufucoffee · 16/07/2021 21:23

Not at all. Chances of me dying if I do get it are tiny so it doesn't worry me in the slightest

KurtWilde · 16/07/2021 21:27

I've already had it. Not worried about it at all.

MakkaPakkas · 16/07/2021 21:30

I'm worried about the social and practical consequences of getting covid (isolation, missing out on fun etc...) I'm not worried about the physical consequences of the illness. I had it in march 2020 and am double vaccinated.

AlternativePerspective · 16/07/2021 21:37

I’m not.

I’m in heart failure and am CEV, but I have been double vaccinated, and TBH I had heart surgery 10 months before the first lockdown and as things currently stand I am in good health.

I’m damned if I’m going to sit here wasting away my health while I still have it just in case. I don’t intend to pop off to Wembley or the o2 any time soon, And I will wear a mask etc, but tbh if I catch it then so be it. And if I die from it then, well, we’re all going to die of something. I’ve nearly died 3 times already in the past nearly 5 years so if it isn’t COVID it will probably be heart failure anyway.

There’s no point worrying so much about dying that you’re not living.

dementedma · 16/07/2021 22:01

DS is 19 and double jabbed. Covid positive today. He's really unwell

Egghead68 · 16/07/2021 22:07

@Bagelsandbrie

I’m worried about how long the immunity from the vaccine lasts. No one seems to know the answer to that yet and I can see a lot of clinically extremely vulnerable people like me suddenly dropping down with it as our immunity has waned and we won’t realise.
That’s my concern as a CEV person too, @Bagelsandbrie. In Israel it’s the people vaccinated in January and February who are now getting hospitalised with it, so it seems the vaccine coverage may wane after 6 months. I was vaccinated in Dec and early Jan (before the 12 week rule change), so over 6 months ago, and I’m very worried.
Egghead68 · 16/07/2021 22:09

I also had long Covid last year and really couldn’t face going through that again.

coronafiona · 16/07/2021 22:09

Very worrying here. I know more people with it now than I have ever before. And just as we are supposed to remove the restrictions.Confused

Thislittlefinger123 · 16/07/2021 22:11

Not at all. Never really have been. Worried one of us will get it before our holiday though!

DinosaurDiana · 16/07/2021 22:12

I’ve found out that another double jabbed person I know has tested positive. Assumes she got it from the pub recently.
That’s 3 people I know, and several my son knows.

IWanderedLonely · 16/07/2021 22:13

Not remotely.

Timeisavirtue · 16/07/2021 22:28

I’m only worried about getting it before I have plans, having to cancel things aren’t easy, also I don’t wanna take time off work as I won’t get paid. I’ve never been worried about catching it in general more about when I catch it.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 16/07/2021 22:34

I'm only worried about people making a fuss about case numbers rising and calling for another lockdown.

I am so over these people who want to be locked down for ever. A friend of mine has shown herself to be like this and it has put me right off her - the panicking, the relentless negativity, the doom-mongering.

Glad to see lots of sensible positive people on this thread.
