Just for fun. What words do your children prounce wrong. My dd used to to say happy c%#tmas instead of happy Christmas. Ds kept saying pull the slag . Turned out he meant pull the tag. Grin

Ferlingo and wobblies for flamingoes and wallabies. My eldest called olives oblibs and the youngest called them Orovs. Youngest can't pronounce a C/K clearly so young cats are "lovely titties"

My cousin used to say strawbabies instead of strawberries. She is 30 this year and we still say strawbabies.

LublinToDublin · 13/07/2021 22:47

PottersParties
Al-macka-packa, for alpaca

You've reminded me that dd called them owl-packers Grin

Maggot for magnet (3 yo). Disconcerting when he proclaims "there's my maggot!".
Harshmallows -5 yo recently clicked that it starts with an M. He also still says constructions for instructions. I have tried to advise him but he knows best.

Die instead of bye. Of course, we had a relative who had a terminal illness. Why wouldn't he shout die! When we were leaving.

ParsleyDill · 13/07/2021 22:50

Poddidge and lellow. He’s now 9 and too sophisticated for words.

Scarby9 · 13/07/2021 22:51

@NeedNewKnees
We live near 'Flingoland', as christened by a friend's son.

CoodleMoodle · 13/07/2021 22:55

I love these! We call them "wrong words" in our house.

DD(7) used to say "leafers" instead of leaves. When she was about 4 I heard her tell DM that she knew it was pronounced leaves but that I liked it when she said leafers, so she wanted to keep saying it. She also used to ask for the "constructions" (instructions), and whether or not we were going to "todda yoop" (toddler group).

DS is 3 and has lots of funny words. My current favourites are "hi-nina" (hyena) and "oh-ben-gene" (aubergine). And he goes to "pee-school"!

CoodleMoodle · 13/07/2021 22:56

Oh, and DD used to say "hofa" and DS used to say "fofa" for sofa. We used both (well, all three) interchangeably now.

spaceghetto · 13/07/2021 22:58

Fuck instead of truck!

Workinghardeveryday · 13/07/2021 23:16

Thought of more:
Teefus- teeth, still say it now and twins are 10!!
Mupples - nipples

My dd was about 4 before she asked why I kept calling her an onion. I asked whatever did she mean, every time I said in jest joking, ‘your a funny un’ she thought I was calling her an onion 🤣

RedRec · 13/07/2021 23:16

Coombumber for cucumber.
Also pointed at a UPS delivery van and said 'Ups' as if it was a word. Of course we still take great delight in using both.

JustJoinedRightNow · 13/07/2021 23:18

My DS says ambulamps instead of ambulance which is just so cute.

Champagneforeveryone · 13/07/2021 23:20

DS is 17 and has only just mastered the correct pronunciation of the word pernament permanent.

When he says it now I see a small flicker cross his face which always makes me chuckle Grin

PurpleRainDancer · 13/07/2021 23:23

AnoymousCoward · 13/07/2021 23:29

"Auction" puddings
Ay-dee-rator
Cum-cuber

AnoymousCoward · 13/07/2021 23:31

Oh, and "eat-abix"
Makes perfect sense Grin

Neondisco · 13/07/2021 23:32

Aminals for animals.

I find it adorable. But I also start saying it if I've been having an animal base conversation and I've heard the wrong way lots!

littlegiant · 13/07/2021 23:51

Absolutely loving these!
Up until nearly age 7 we had 'yudderwise' instead of otherwise.

OnSecondThoughts · 13/07/2021 23:58

I'm not sure if this is exactly the same thing, but I really dislike this "imma" thing I see on some social media posts. Why should we tolerate this pidgin-English? This deliberate dumbing-down of language? "Imma go and do this" - No, it's "I'm going to go and do this" or " I shall, after some consideration, probably take this course of action". "Imma"? Get outta here! (or, "please remove yourself from this vicinity henceforth"!)

halesie · 14/07/2021 00:03

Love these (esp cockporn!).

DS took a long time to get the hang of "short cut"... cue lots of asking in the car "are we taking a short c**t today?" Grin

Joolsin · 14/07/2021 00:04

DS called marshmallows "smushmallows" - so cute. Gwuvs for gloves (but his friend called them glubs!)

HauteGirlSummer · 14/07/2021 00:11

DS who's 4 says 'askident' for accident and it melts my damn heart every time 🥺😇

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 14/07/2021 00:20

In primary school I always used to write everythink and somethink. It used to bug me when the teacher circled the k as I adamant I was right 😂

shreddednips · 14/07/2021 00:23

These are amazing 🤩

Not a mispronunciation, but my two year old DS calls a wee a 'water poo' which always amuses me.

Until recently, he couldn't get his head around rabbits and called them 'big ear rats'. I'm sure he was just trolling me by the end as I went out of my way to try and get him to call them rabbits.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 14/07/2021 06:32

Mummy sticks instead of salami sticks.

Dd gets cross when I forstact her. Thats forstyrre (danish for disturb) combined with distract.

Peppallama · 14/07/2021 06:40

Thankfully ship rather than shit. I don't know where on earth he heard such language Blush
