You love to see it

@MrsTophamHat I can see your point of view on this too.

I do have stronger beliefs that behaviours and attitudes can change and people can be educated though (and take on board why their shitty attitudes are so shitty).

TheVanguardSix · 13/07/2021 10:10

She has ZERO compassion. And the more people like Tyrone Mings speak out, the more people will realise we can't actually listen to soulless assholes like Priti Patel. She's got ice in her veins.

givememarmite · 13/07/2021 10:45

@Oceanos

I think it's a bit weird that someone who is standing up against racism now is being called out on it now. She was pulled up for it after the original comments too.

It feels like it's a sign that people don't think attitude and behaviours can change and is quite scary to see that.

If she's changed her mind though she should have the courage to say so, to say she was wrong by not calling out the booing, not supporting them taking the knee and that she now understands why they decided to do that. That would make a difference. Otherwise it's just lip service.

Do you honestly honestly think Priti Patel has actually changed her views in the space of four weeks?

This is a HOme Secretary who would bring back the death penalty in the blink of an eye (there is footage), who voted against same sex marriage only 8 years ago, who broke ministerial code for bullying which cost the tax payer £350,000 or more, and whose record on human rights is not good.

I doubt very much she has suddenly become a different person in a matter of weeks

FixTheBone · 13/07/2021 10:53

Good on him.

Doing the job that the media should have been doing for the last 5 years of this awful government. It's not just on racism, but on hypocrisy in general.

Why aren't the media jumping on Boris? He called it disgusting, but a couple of years ago referred to Muslim Women in Hijab's as 'Letterboxes' amongst countless other casual racist slurs.

He also wrote a newspaper article supporting remain, mere months before seeing an opportunity to rise to PM by switching to leave...

So much hypocrisy, lies and deceit, and nobody ever publicly calls it out, whether it's racism, expenses scandals or extra marital affairs.

Tyrone Mings is incredible. He’s very intelligent, and knowledgable, and speaks very very well on mental health, and race. He had a difficult upbringing and he and his mum and siblings spent time in a homeless shelter. He also didn’t progress through the ranks like most other top footballers - he was working as a mortgage advisor at 20!

It seems unbelievable that footballers are picking up where politicians are failing, but they have far more life experience, and are much more relatable than the spoilt, blinkered, untrustworthy idiots who rule out country.

UnitedRoad · 13/07/2021 13:33

Our country!

So agree, great post.

So many of these young footballers have done so much good (I'm sure they are not all perfect but I am talking about the majority).
They put our self serving politicians to shame

PompomDahlia · 13/07/2021 14:49

Completely agree with him. With her earlier comments and so many of her actions she’s played into nasty behaviour, and so have lots more of her government.

I have so much respect for this current team - not only have they been hugely successful on the pitch, but they’ve stayed true to themselves and their values. And all at such young ages as well.

TheWeeDonkey · 13/07/2021 14:51

Good on him for speaking out, and what he said is true.

I love the attitude of this England team, when previous generations have been about the cars , the bling and the women. These guys seem to be about giving back, supporting their communities and being a voice for those who don't have a voice.

I think they have given such a good performance in this tournament and should be so proud of what they have achived. Its disgusting but sadly not surprising that people have responded this way.

Kirstos1 · 13/07/2021 16:30

I loved it, she's a right prat.

HauteGirlSummer · 13/07/2021 16:45

I am so happy he called her out.
Warms my heart to see a lot of the young men in the team are such great and articulate role models setting good examples.
Marcus Rashford's post also brought a tear to my eye 🤗

Roussette · 13/07/2021 21:01

A country awaits your apology Priti Patel.

I cheered that tweet more than I did any goal during the Euros. He had it so spot on, so simply. I absolutely love this squad of players and staff. They are just so grounded, even with the wealth & acclaim they have. I also cried ugly tears at Rashford's tweets earlier this evening, when he saw what had been done by his local community.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 13/07/2021 22:56

Priti Patel's dad was a UKIP Candidate.

Vile woman.

Roussette · 14/07/2021 07:35

Whatever it is, it's been removed!

Parker231 · 14/07/2021 07:56

Perfect - he’s an articulate young man. The country should be very proud of him and the England team.

longwayoff · 15/07/2021 07:45

Good for him and good for Southgate and his team. PP is an utterly contemptible hypocrite and I'm glad to see that so many people are now prepared to say so. Dreadful, shameless person and a coward. Where is she? Where's her apology?

Fairyliz · 15/07/2021 07:51

Is this the same footballer who got banned for five matches for stamping on another player?
Clearly a delightful young man Hmm

Spudlet · 15/07/2021 07:58

She also bullied one of her civil servants into a suicide attempt, on top of all the other things listed.

She’s an opportunist who thought she could mouth the right words and have everyone forget all the other nasty crap she’s spewed out in the past. As is the Prime Minister. God help us with people like that in charge.

Frazzled2207 · 15/07/2021 08:21

Obviously he’s spot on. I get a bit of a boost every time I see stuff like this- obviously a lot of people on Twitter say the right stuff but he’s a in a position of significant influence.

At some point the tide of support towards this hateful government has to turn

Weebleweeble · 15/07/2021 08:25

OMG - I'm pretty sure the abuse that Priti Patel receives over twitter etc and email make the footie players abuse look like a pixie fairy tale - the abuse she receives on here is pretty bad - Diane Abbott similar, but hey they're women who gives a shit.

Social media falling over themselves to remove tweets but when women are threatened with rape and murder or receive racist abuse - oh, well, tha'ts life!! Stop making a fuss.

Roussette · 15/07/2021 08:32

She won't be apologising. It comes from the top. At PMQ's yesterday, Johnson made a point of not actually apologising.

She also bullied one of her civil servants into a suicide attempt, on top of all the other things listed
Yes, and the taxpayer had to fund something like £400,000 to mount a defence on her behalf. Disgusting.

I'm pretty sure the abuse that Priti Patel receives over twitter etc and email make the footie players abuse look like a pixie fairy tale

Why does she perpetuate it by not standing up for football players calling out racism then?

You would've thought she'd be all over it like a rash as she is subjected to it too. But given her father was a UKIP candidate, I suppose it doesn't fit her narrative

Weebleweeble · 15/07/2021 08:50

She said that taking the knee was a political gesture - it's ok if people make political gestures you are happy with but for example what if players made an anti gay gesture because of their religious beliefs - you'd be happy with that??
Of course not - I agree with her that political gestures should not be used in sport. The players can voice their views on Twitter in newspaper interviews whatever but not a good thing at a game.
