I'm alone in the cinema and a bit freaked out

My first visit in almost a year. I'm sitting here alone in a semi dark screening room waiting for the film to start and it's all a bit weirdGrin. I've had a look on the booking app and it seem they have indeed sold one ticket for this screening but now worried someone strange will randomly turn up at the last minute!

This happened to me before! Was convinced I was in the wrong place until the movie started.
Enjoy!

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 11/07/2021 13:44

That must feel very strange! I hope you can relax and enjoy the film anyway.
I used to enjoy going to the cinema on my own Before, but I would not like to sit in an empty theatre!

newnortherner111 · 11/07/2021 13:57

I hope OP you enjoy Nomadland, I did when seeing it a few weeks ago, with about 15 in the cinema. I get how surprised you were though.

I think the smallest cinema audience I was in was six, for a 5pm showing of a film a friend was part of the crew. I'm not going to name the film to spare the friend, as it was the worst they have ever been involved in. Two of the other five in the audience were Clive Anderson and one of his children.

godmum56 · 11/07/2021 14:04

@Eastie77

I'm watching Nomadland, starts in a few minutes. Not exactly a blockbuster so I thought it would be quiet but not this quiet! One person has turned up, an elderly man sitting right at the front and I'm in the back row so hopefully should be okGrin
Its a blooming good film....not cheerful but definitely beautiful and uplifting
OoglyMoogly · 11/07/2021 14:06

Just before lockdown #1 we went to the cinema. There was just 4 people in the audience, us at the front and a couple towards the back. It felt decidedly odd!

Mrsjayy · 11/07/2021 14:07

We watched it on Disney+ I wasn't expecting much but it really was a lovely film. Francis Mcdermond (sp) is such an engaging actor could watch her all day.

OoglyMoogly · 11/07/2021 14:07

Oh and afterwards we went to the local pub and were the only customers. Grin

FoxVillage · 11/07/2021 14:09

I'd be terrified!! It's like I can't be in a swimming pool on my own. it's completely irrational, but if there is a shark in the pool and I'm the lone swimmer, there is 100% chance that I will be eaten, whereas the more people there are in the pool, the lower the chance of people eaten is.

Being alone in a cinema is my idea of hell. If a serial killer comes in, you're toast!

Nat6999 · 11/07/2021 14:15

I had this in a cinema on a cruise ship, the whole cinema to myself.

Zilla1 · 11/07/2021 14:17

Have they come and asked you what you'd like from the concessions, yet OP?

I think the notion of pausing the film if either of you need the loo though they didn't do that the one time I was the only viewer in a pre-COVID cinema,

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 11/07/2021 14:18

I was on my own in the cinema until a few minutes to go before The Father a few weeks ago. Sadly more people turned up so eventually there were about 7 of us watching. No problems with social distancing!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 11/07/2021 14:20

@SupermanInk

I had this once and a man came in just before the film started and sat one seat away from me!

😬 I would find that a bit creepy.

It was, but an hour in he got up and whispered “I’m going to the bar, do you want anything getting while I’m out” I’m still not sure if he was a bit creepy or a bit of a stickler for the rules and just sat in the seat he’d been allocated.
JaninaDuszejko · 11/07/2021 14:22

I've never been the only customer in the cinema but I've been the only person in a pool (absolute bliss!) and the only passenger on a plane which was fun, I had a good chat with the air hostess.

SupermanInk · 11/07/2021 14:23

It was, but an hour in he got up and whispered “I’m going to the bar, do you want anything getting while I’m out”

That was actually really nice. See, I shouldn’t judge!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 11/07/2021 14:24

I had this when I saw a batman film, was ace :)

OldTinHat · 11/07/2021 14:26

I always go on my own during the day (just back from watching Black Widow!) and love it when I'm the only one in there. Enjoy the film OP!

Pinknoise · 11/07/2021 14:28

I’d love that!

MrsClatterbuck · 11/07/2021 14:31

Years ago a group of us from work went to the cinema and it was one of the smaller rooms. No one else had booked so it felt like a private screening. It was great. If someone said something out loud there were no dirty looks or going shush. not that we would have done that if there had been other people there

FAQs · 11/07/2021 14:32

@fox 🤣

SleepingStandingUp · 11/07/2021 14:38

I'm off to see Black Widow now, I'm guessing there's little chance I'll be alone!!

MamaMia252 · 11/07/2021 15:02

I've only ever been alone in a cinema once,it was great and so funny. It was a Monday so no one there ,it felt so odd being off work and in a cinema?!. It was my first day of maternity leave, still pregnant with my first baby, just me and my hubby enjoying our last week of being just us with Potter and a small box of KFC we'd smuggled in to satisfy my craving...it was all sooo lush
... we even had a smooch smooch in the back row to...oooh matron!!!🤣... enjoy your film in the peace and quiet x

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/07/2021 15:16

I don't want to be a pedant but I'm going to be anyway but if you were with your DH, the surely you weren't alone?Confused

Anyway, I'm now checking the cinema food menu, I never eat there as I can't stand hearing other people munch, but if I end up on my own I can, I might have a hot dog aswell as the nachos Grin

Vickim03 · 11/07/2021 15:27

We went as a family 2 adults 2 kids over half term and apart from 2 other adults we were the only ones! We watched Peter rabbit 2. Gotta say I was kind of relieved as was a bit worried because of covid and being in a room with no windows etc. But all was good.

Eastie77 · 11/07/2021 15:37

A lovely, beautifully directed film and happy to report the elderly gentleman at the front was not an axe murderer so I made it out in one pieceGrin I now think I could get used to the idea of my own private cinema.

Re. the film, I stayed to watch the credits and noticed every single character's name was their actual real name so wondering if a lot of the cast were not (professional) actors. Now off to read the book the film is based on!
