Home ear piercing

Has anyone tried these little disposable ear piercing kits? They seem to be all over TikTok etc.
I want 2-3 more lobe piercings; and it seems crazy to pay £40 for it?

Thoughts?😊

Yes, it's crazy.

You don't need a kit - just sterilise a needle and crack on

TheQueef · 11/07/2021 09:00

Got a gun on eBay years ago, we did each others after a bit of Dutch courage Blush because there were three of us saved a bomb!

SoddingWeddings · 11/07/2021 09:07

Don't be a bloody idiot. These things work on blunt force trauma to pierce body parts. Let alone the infection risk, you'll end up with wonky piercings taking poor tracks through cartilage, skin and flesh which can seriously affect the healing process and leave you looking like an idiot.

Pay a proper piercer who will use appropriate needles, has use of an autoclave for sterilisation and has done years as an apprentice to learn their craft.

Blunt force trauma would be if you bashed yourself on the head with it.

Piercing, like stabbing or slashing, is not a blunt force injury even if the instrument used is not as sharp as others available

shazkevincarrotlover · 11/07/2021 09:57

They work Grin
You have to be brave though, not going to lie it did hurt.I had the marks already present in my ear the holes had closed so I used the mini kits from Amazon and repiereced my 2nd holes.
Kept them clean left earrings in for about 3 weeks then changed them out for the ones I have in now.

ThirtyCharacterUsernamesOnly30 · 11/07/2021 10:07

No idea whether they're any good or not, but it just reminded me of something...

I went behind the shed at primary school (probably when I was in about year 2) and found two girls in the year below, one was piercing the others ear with a drawing pin. There was loads of blood. I promptly ran off to tell the dinner lady in the playground. 😱

Fuzzysocksies · 11/07/2021 10:29

The way they pierce is by forcing blunt earrings through the flesh, whereas an actual piercer will use a very sharp hollow needle. It’s a terrible way to pierce your ears and will hurt and likely not heal well. The earrings used are often terrible for new piercings too.
Those kits can never be sterilised properly either, so you run a much higher risk of infection.
If you’ve actually watched a lot of the tiktoks you should have seen how many of them fail and jam while the earring is halfway through the ear, or how wonky and bad some of the piercings look afterwards. Watch ‘bepierced1’ on tiktok for an actual knowledgable piercers advice and reasons why you shouldn’t do this.

£40 is not much to pay to avoid infection, awful looking piercings or the risk of having to dig an earring back out of your ear after it embeds itself in!

opalescent · 11/07/2021 11:30

@Fuzzysocksies when you put it that way....😖

You're risking infection which will need systemic antibiotic treatment and possible septicaemia and sepsis if you don't get it treated in time.

If you don't mind risking this, or contributing to antibiotic resistance then crack on.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2021 13:30

I did mine with surgical spirit and a sharpish pair of earrings , did a cracking job and never had any issues, unlike my first hole had done with a gun.

Imapotato · 11/07/2021 13:33

My friend pierced my helix with the back of an old earring when I was about 12. Not the most sensible thing ever, but 24 years on I’ve never had any issues and still have the piercing today.

Bloody hurt though!

opalescent · 11/07/2021 13:33

@farawayplanet really?

I feel like you're catastrophising a little

Oh yes I did my baby while she was still in the womb... JOKE (another thread going on full of absolute hysteria) I did mine yesterday for the third holes and it was fine.

WrongKindOfFace · 11/07/2021 13:47

Pay the £40 to have it done properly. Better than ending up with a wonky piercing.

toastantea · 11/07/2021 13:50

£40 is an absolute bargain to minimise your health risks when piercing your body. I always question the mentality of anyone who buys these things tbh.

MoreMorelos · 11/07/2021 14:27

At school we did ours by numbing the ear with ice cubes or frozen chips and pushing a stud through, did my mum's like that too! This was in the 90s and nobody had a problem with infection etc 😂

I also did this when I was 15. Probably because I lacked the full understanding of the potential implications.

Lindy2 · 11/07/2021 15:04

Oh my. This thread is making my toes curl.

If you want a permanent piercing in your body I definitely think it's better to pay to have it done by someone who knows what they are doing rather than having a go yourself to see how it goes.

Cavalierqueen · 11/07/2021 15:07

I'm trying to remember how many people I knew from school who died or needed antibiotics from home piercing with a sewing needle and can't think of any. 🤔

BillyShears · 11/07/2021 15:07

Never heard of this.... just googled it. They look like implements of torture. I would NOT use one of those.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 11/07/2021 15:13

Hmm. Yes they work. Yes it is possible to pierce your ears with safety pins etc lime the kids did on the school bus when I was 14 but... It is not as painful and heals faster if you go to a good piercer who will use a needle instead of a gun.

RickiTarr · 11/07/2021 15:15

GrinSorry, inappropriately in stitches over that. Grin

YellowMonday · 11/07/2021 15:21

You should never do home piercings, the risk of infection is too great.

A 17 year old in Brazil just died from an at home eye brow piecing - infection turned septic, she went into cardiac arrest three times, then could not be revived.

Save your money somewhere else!
