I don't need to go to out of hours unless my tongue swells up do I?

I'm having an allergic reaction (hives) to the vaccine. I went to the chemist yesterday morning after the piriton I took the night before didn't work. She advised to see a doctor but ofc my GP didn't ring back so I went to the GP centre at the hospital in the afternoon. Waited hours, just got more anti histamine which I could only get a hold of by walking over a mile to a chemist.

Now today still loads of hives but my eyes and face are swollen too. I feel like crap, am itching all over and got a massive headache. They won't do anything else unless my tongue swells up though right? So no point in getting checked out again? I just can't face another half day sat in that bloody place.

Of course you need to be seen. Go to A and E. They don't mind seeing people who are in real danger.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/07/2021 10:33

You're having a severe allergic reaction, go to A+E if your GP won't see you asap.

Cavalierqueen · 10/07/2021 10:36

I have had my reaction to nuts as hives for more than 2 days just about controlled with pititon and needed the epi pen on the third day so it's not necessarily going to fade. This is exactly why I couldn't live in the UK. Prefer to risk death than try to access the care you have a right to. In a minute the mum's will be along to say don't bother the doctor, just ring a moron with an algorithm. Don't. They can't resus you down the phone.

A&E for the headache as well, and the itching, if your tongue starts to swell it will be tooate

Choconuttolata · 10/07/2021 10:37

You need to be seen as the reaction is worsening and the allergen is still in your system.

ThePontiacBandit · 10/07/2021 10:37

If you call 111 they might be able to get you seen in OOH rather than sitting waiting in A&E…but yes, if antihistamines aren’t making much difference you do need to be seen…I’d also take photos so that they are aware for the future because exposure to allergens tend to create a more severe reaction each time and this needs to be in your medical records.

Or just go and see a proper doctor with access to steroids and adrenaline which are indicated to stop death. HmmFFS.

Go to A&E Thanks

daisybrown37 · 10/07/2021 10:44

You need to get seen if the reaction is getting worse.

I had hives and swelling from a penicillin allergy and felt very rough - but it only lasted a day with antihistamines, so go to A+E and get seen.

CollaborateAndListen · 10/07/2021 10:45

Oh fucking hell. I just can't face those bloody chairs and all the fannying on. It takes so long and it's all crap and stressful and I don't feel up to dealing with it. My face could stop swelling, couldn't it?

Phone 111. They'll get you an appointment with an OOH GP who can prescribe you what you need without the need to sit in A&E for hours.

Lilypansy · 10/07/2021 10:48

Yes, your face could stop swelling. On the other hand, it could spread to your throat. Please go and get it treated asap.

AdventureIsWaiting · 10/07/2021 10:50

Your face could stop swelling, but that's unlikely because the vaccine (if you are 100% that's what it is) is still in your system; food (which you can flush out) might be a different matter. You need to see a medical professional for a proper assessment.

Allergies can be fatal and if you don't normally carry an epipen then if your tongue starts swelling and you can't breathe, it's too late for an ambulance. Sorry to be harsh, but you don't fuck about with severe allergies.

You may not be waiting that long; I can't imagine they will triage minor illness ahead of someone with an ongoing allergic reaction.

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 10/07/2021 10:53

A&E for facial swelling OP, your throat could be next Flowers

CollaborateAndListen · 10/07/2021 10:56

Ok ok I will ring 111 and get an appointment. I thought that maybe they wouldn't take it seriously after yesterday (the hives were already visibly spreading by then) but you're right this is getting worse not better. Pretty sure it's the vaccine because it started on the way home from getting it. The Dr I saw yesterday said it's a good thing because it shows my immune system is reacting! Fucks sakes, what a shit weekend. Thanks everyone.

I had an allergic reaction, face and then throat felt funny. I was seen very quickly in A&E, no messing around. You need to go.

Cavalierqueen · 10/07/2021 10:59

111 is a waste of time but you asked for opinions got them and chose to ignore them so good luck and I hope you are OK even though you are annoying.

Soontobe60 · 10/07/2021 11:05

The leaflet I got after my vaccine had a number on to phone if you had any reaction. When did you have the vaccine?

romdowa · 10/07/2021 11:05

If your face and eyes are swollen then you need to be seen and I doubt you will be left sitting on a chair for hours. If you throat or tongue starts to swell then it will be too late, you'll need adrenaline immediately.

What is wrong with you? You seem to have some kind of vendetta against 111 but to call op annoying for going with the majority instead of you is ridiculous.
Valhalla17 · 10/07/2021 11:10

Stuff 111 you need to be going straight to A&E. You need steroids sharpish....anaphylaxis can ramp up very quickly. Dont risk it OP.

girlmom21 · 10/07/2021 11:14

111 can send her an ambulance if the treatment required is as urgent as some of you deem.
They can organise a GP OOH appointment, nurse appointment, walk in clinic, etc if it's not.

111 have a number of qualified practitioners in their offices at all times. The service isn't just the triage system - which is what i am assuming some posters have issues with?

Etinox · 10/07/2021 11:26

Take a cushion for the crappy chairs and get to A&E

Flowers
Cantdoitallperfectly · 10/07/2021 11:27

Please get to A&E

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 10/07/2021 11:27

@Cavalierqueen they don't have "proper doctors" in OOH? 🤔
