I am so so so late to the party, but my goodness, I am totally hooked!!!
Just wondered if anyone else fancied being watching buddies, I've only just got to season 2!

Another massive fan only discovered it late last year. Felt the same lull in season 2 so do persevere. Season 3 is brilliant imo, and four, and five Grin.

There's a very active community on Reddit r/Outlander that also has individual threads on every single episode - wish I'd discovered that before finishing the series so would suggest heading there for episode-by-episode analysis.

Yellowcrockpot · 13/07/2021 22:47

Okay, so now on season 2, episode 5 and my 10th glass of wine, might have had uber deliver the 2nd bottle

I'm the Google Queen, and have had to Google if Scots could in fact speak French in that time period, my slight drunk googling has come with the answer of yes - they had a grasp of the French language, so prehaps i can be more accepting now.

I'm am avid book reader too, having just read peregrine's home for peculiar children (apparently a teenagers book, but photos are fascinating) I hope to see the film soon.
Outlander is the opposite way around, I'm planning to watch all seasons, then read the books.

So excited to have found this thread, I'm getting more involved into the French theme, as a PP said, attempting not to side-eye the perfect French spoken language. Can't wait for the return to Scotland. The whole production was so breathtakingly beautiful.

Currently me and my Irish wolfhound are snug on the sofa whilst DP is otherwise engaged, couldn't have hoped for a better evening, whilst catching up on the posts on this thread!

Yellowcrockpot · 13/07/2021 22:53

Ps... shoot me now but I got bored of the sex scenes...as hot as Jamie is, and I fast forward them!Blush

Alone in the chat atm, randal has just met Claire at the garden party!

.....its all going on....!

MoChridhe · 14/07/2021 04:03
@Yellowcrockpot prepare yourself... just finished ep8 of S2. Only just stopped bawling my eyes out...
Thankfully I think (well I know) they are back off to Scotland so won't have to side eye at the perfect French accents as a pp mentioned!
Jamie was highly educated and had attended University in Paris which is the reason for the perfect French. He spoke other languages fluently as well.

You make Scots sound like Neanderthal man!! Grin

babycorn1 · 14/07/2021 07:28

Thanks for that @MoChridhe, you are our very own in-house expert!

@Yellowcrockpot hope you haven't got too much of a hangover this morning!

I actually had to take a break last night after the emotion of episode 8, plus having to nurse my very own pox-ridden child (so far have resisted setting fire to her room to prevent the spread Grin), but will be back on it this evening for the return to Bonny Scotland.

I honestly don't know how I missed this when it came out, presumably was living under a rock.

Ohhhh, I'm sorry this is not my intention! I just wasn't sure how much people travelled in that time period and if it was common for people to be bilingual, I also thought the same for other cast members if that helps.

Certainly don't think of the Scots as neanderthals, rich in history, culture and traditions, I think the Scottish are absolutely wonderful.

And thank you @mochridhe

And @babycorn1 hangover is fine... I stopped at my 3rd glass and plenty of water Grin
Got a bit carried away being able to snuggle on the sofa with outlander all to myself (none of DPs commentaries! Lol)

babycorn1 · 17/07/2021 21:51

Oh man, season 2, episode 10, they've just killed off my fave character! Apart from Jamie of course...

Sorry to open up an older thread but oh I love it! Finished all 5 seasons .. !!spoilers coming up….there were many heart rending moments but for me Claire remembering her life with Jamie , going back to a ruined lallybroch etc had me sobbing. I’m sure it wasn’t even meant to be that sad as there were objectively sadder moments.. just all the memories and the love she had for Jamie from so long ago bubbling up to the surface after she had repressed them to adjust to her new life in the present world. The music and everything just gave me the chills .

babycorn · 11/11/2021 21:46

I am on round three of watching it all the way again through the seasons... still can't find anything else to watch that can compare...

MoChridhe · 11/11/2021 21:51

Coincidentally I just met Diana Gabaldon today at her new book signing at Waterstones Picadilly circus. She was awesome and looks a lot younger than 70!

babycorn · 11/11/2021 21:55

Woohoo, lucky you!!! I hope you thanked her dreaming up JAMMF!Smile

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 11/11/2021 21:57

i am a recent finder of Outlander....new house with internet that means I can watch ALLLLL the things

I have jsut watched episode one of series five so i am nearly caught up

I really like the odd spiky humour, ...the carribean vicar at Fergus' wedding! And George Washington escaping from that play!

DanceForMeColin · 11/11/2021 21:59

There’s something that’s been bugging me though. In season 1 they see Jamie in the 1940s outside the hotel, but it’s never referenced again. Is that ever explained?

Itll be revealed in Book 10
Viviennemary · 11/11/2021 22:01

I didn't like Claire too much but Sam Heugan was perfect as Jamie.

AnonAnnie2977 · 11/11/2021 22:04

I find Brianna so much more likable than Claire !

DanceForMeColin · 11/11/2021 22:06

@Redglitter that’s a long pay off!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 11/11/2021 22:08

I've been wondering about that too...Frank's encounter with the Highlander that vanished.

MoChridhe · 11/11/2021 22:12

@Viviennemary

Sam heughan is going to be at Waterstones Picadilly circus signing his new book on the 23rd of November.
babycorn · 11/11/2021 22:20

@MoChridhe oh my giddy aunt!!!! Frantically trying to come up with reasons why I might need a day off work... Wink

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 15/11/2021 21:06

Bloody hell. There's no way I can get back from London to do the school run if the signing kicks off at 2pm. Such a shame. I shall console myself with the thought that it's often anticlimactic to meet one's heroes. Please don't disabuse me of this notion!

Graham McTavish (Dougal) will be there too. Sigh.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/11/2021 21:20

I'm just about halfway through season 4. I've read all the books before though, over the years. Who's got book 9 on pre-order? Grin
I just wish the telly series had more of Claire's inner monologue; they've made her a bit too serious and she's actually a lot more dry and funny.

babycorn · 15/11/2021 21:27

@JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt you are right. They would be disappointing in real life. Definitely disappointing.... extremely disappointing...

That said, I do think Sam is a bit too pretty boy in real life. Far prefer him a bit roughed up Wink plus Graham has a cut glass RP accent.

T'would be disappointing... I STILL WANT TO GO!!!!!!
