Present for nursery staff - need ideas

It's been an absolutely horrendous year but the staff at my DS's nursery have gone above and beyond. They've just been brilliant from start to finish and my son has come on so much in their care. He does term-term only and is finishing for the year soon and I'd like to get them a present to show how much I appreciate what they do for him.

He has a key worker but she's only there certain days and all the staff muck in together and he loves them all, so I'd like to acknowledge them all. There's 10 staff in total and I can spend around £50, maybe a littl. So that's either £5 per person or a larger shared gift. The only thing I can think of is a big box of nice chocolates.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Similar dilemma here! I was wondering whether they'd like something for their room like some new books or toys but that might not be very exciting. At Christmas, all the parents got together to get a big hamper for the staff to split up which was nice. It doesn't help that the staff are very diverse (which is generally a good thing clearly!) so it's hard to think of what would appeal to all of them.

Nice coffee for staff room would go down well in my nursery and would keep for September. Biscuits always welcome too.

QueenAdreena · 07/07/2021 21:52

When I worked in a nursery a parent bought us vouchers for the local takeaway so that we could get pizzas for one of our evening staff meetings, it was great!

Just to add, what would be the nicest thing would be a note or card to say what you’ve said above.

BettyOBarley · 07/07/2021 21:55

I've bought Ds keyworker a Costa voucher and will probably get a nice box of biscuits or cupcakes for the rest. I dont have much to spend though as he also goes to school nursery and DD goes to school.

Something to share is a great idea. There could be staff you don't see but who still care for your son, management, possibly a cook! So a shared gift covers all those people too.

TolkiensFallow · 07/07/2021 22:07

Could you make a pamper hamper for them to share? A few bath bombs, face masks, hand creams, chocolates etc and then drop it off and say it’s for the staff to share? That’s what I’m going to do as there are several of them and then they can pick what they want from the hamper

Akire · 07/07/2021 22:09

Costa voucher for £5 each would get least 2 nice drinks.

Do they have a staff room? Some nice new cushions or plant or pic for wall can make something more cheery.

SNKB14 · 07/07/2021 22:14

For Christmas I done a hamper with face masks, feet masks etc and some nice coffee and teas

Attheendofthedaywhenallsaid · 07/07/2021 22:15

All lovely ideas (although if buying vouchers - may i suggest buy from independent coffee and pizza restaurants -nice to avoid lining the pockets of the billionaires even further).

jelly79 · 07/07/2021 22:16

I've always done a candle but I think a Costa voucher is a great idea! I have 4 to buy so £5 each is great

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/07/2021 22:16

I did a gift bag full of mini bottles of wine and prosecco and loads of mini nice chocolates (dark/salted caramel/etc) with a note saying "please share amongst the staff" - I made sure there was at least 1 drink and 1 chocolate per staff.

This would go down a treat in my nursery! Coffee is always welcome too.

I did a hamper with tea bags, coffee, biscuits, chocolate, pritsticks, pens, stickers etc for all the staff to share so they had some goodies in the staff room and then some useful goodies to use with the children as knew our nursery didn't necessarily have the budget for new equipment and the staff used to buy them.

switswoo81 · 07/07/2021 22:23

I gave a 65 euro voucher at Christmas for the local deli and they got lunch delivered one day for the whole staff. They said they were delighted with that as a present.

Germolenequeen · 07/07/2021 22:26

Please don't buy coffee - 50% of staff at our work place don't drink it 😉
No - one expects a present either although are always appreciated

Yellow85 · 07/07/2021 22:27

Our nursery aren’t allowed sharing gifts due to covid as I normally send in cookies of cakes. I did however manage to get a great gift online - It’s a personalised story with the nursery name and some staff written in. I thought it would be really nice thing for future kids to share in.

Sally872 · 07/07/2021 22:31

Usually wine and chocolate for keyworker and box of biscuits or chocolates to share for others.

WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia · 07/07/2021 22:31

That’s why they get paid a salary

What a vile sentiment
SlothinSpirit · 07/07/2021 22:34

Thank you for all the ideas!

Good point about sharing gifts...I'll try to make sure all items are individually wrapped (so no shared boxes of chocolates/biscuits). I'm thinking a big box of wrapped iced biscuits, fancy chocolate bars, some mini bottles of wine/fizz and some face packs could be nice...then everyone could just take what they preferred.

Are flowers for a key worker ott?
I was thinking a box of Krispy Kremes for the staff room and flowers for the key worker?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/07/2021 22:35

I bought a magazine subscription for their staff room with a hamper of tea/coffee and biscuits once which seemed to go down well.

Once they were in school, a voucher for a local coffee shop for the their teacher, TA and the head was out annual offering as well as a huge box of cakes for the staff room.

SlothinSpirit · 07/07/2021 22:38

That’s why they get paid a salary

Hmm. Yes - they're so fortunate, aren't they? They get barely more than NMW for a job that involves huge stress, significant responsibility and considerable investment in training.

I used to get a large paper bag, get the kid to decorate it and write that it was a lucky dip on jt and put enough mini hand creams, nail polishes, lip balms etc inside and let them pick. Alternatively, last year I did a similar thing but with cans of cocktails/mini bottles of wine
