I have keratosis pelaritis on my arms and now it's spread to my back and i can't get rid of it !

I have tried exfoliating with a mit and sugar scrub for several weeks but if anything its gone worse arghhh.

Any tips or tricks to help get rid?

I have tried so many things over the years and the only thing that seems to work for me is chemical exfoliation - so lactic acid, salicylic acid etc.

I recently saw Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion recommended on Instagram & ordered it from Look Fantastic. I’ve been super pleasantly surprised by how well it has worked. My legs are totally soft & smooth now & my arms feels perfect (though a reddish colour still at backs on top). Lovely and soft though. I can’t stop feeling them! Smile

I also use a CeraVe Salicylic Wash in shower which I think helps too…

Try the Tropic perfect skin cream and exfoliating mitt, it’s made specifically for this

CeraVe SA Smoothing Cream is a cheaper option than Ameliorate and very good.

I agree, chemical exfoliation. Paula's Choice does a body lotion with salicylic acid which is supposed to be really good.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 07/07/2021 19:34

Salicylic acid.

moonbedazzled · 07/07/2021 19:35

You can get Cerrave SA (salycilic acid) in a big tub now. Quite cheap. Recently released in the UK.

OverByYer · 07/07/2021 19:35

I use the Paula’s Choice 10% salicylic body cream which gets rid of little bumps but not sure if it’s suitable for your skin?
Worth having a look. It’s quite £££ but lasts ages .
You can’t go in the sun without SPF if you have it on

Funnily enough I'd had this all my adult life and then it cleared up almost overnight when I was diagnosed with coeliacs and had to change my diet.
It's never come back and my arms have been smooth and peachy ever since!

Skinnyjeansandaloosetop · 07/07/2021 19:37

I found this quite good, and not pricey:

Korean Italy towels. You get your skin nice and soft in Bath or shower then rub with one of these and actual grey chunks of skin come off. It's amazing. My arms are so smooth now!

DingDingTriangle · 07/07/2021 19:41

I had this and used 0% soap Sanex shower gel with a shower puff thingy, then either the e45 cream in the tub (expensive) or the Superdrug version called Superdrug Dry Skin Relief Cream (white tub with blue logo and text). It's often on offer at buy one get one half price. A few weeks of using these two products and my arms were so much better.

boniobiscuit · 07/07/2021 19:42

I started taking a collagen supplement and then a few months down the line realised that my KP had completely disappeared. It's so bizarre, but it's the only thing that's changed so I'm sure that's what got rid of it.

Sadly, although I started the collagen to help with facial lines, the skin on my face still looks like a crumpled paper bag 😂

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 07/07/2021 20:50

Had it all my life, used to despair in the summer. I changed to using very natural soaps and shampoo bars instead of my lovely Kerastase and £££shower gels and it disappeared in a couple of months.

Skin has never been better.

Does anyone have a child with this? My DD is covered all over her arms and legs and I don't know how to treat it - I don't really want to use chemicals if I can help it. Thanks

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/07/2021 21:23

You need a cream like Eucerin with a high content of urea. Works a treat.

Maypole245 · 07/07/2021 21:30

@snowone DS has it (he is 6) - we have found Oilatum baths and Hydramol cream (prescribed by gp) have made a big difference.
DD grew out of it which is apparently v common.

BillyRaywasapreachersson · 07/07/2021 21:34

I second both the Korea Italy towels and also diet. Wheat and dairy both make it v bad, very noticeable that if my diet is in a slump my skin goes to shit.

snowone · 07/07/2021 21:34

@Maypole245 thank you. I do use hydramol but not as often as I should, I will try some Oilatum and commit to the cream every day. Fingers crossed she grows out of it, her arms are particularly bad.

BackBoiler · 07/07/2021 22:47

I had it from being a child. I think pregnancy cleared it!

butterry · 07/07/2021 22:49

Diet, less sugar and carbs. Anything exfoliating helps temporarily but diet change will get rid of it

TheChosenTwo · 07/07/2021 23:48

Cera ve skin smoothing cream stuff fixed the texture but the red pin prick spots are still very visible - that’s the worse part of KP, no one touches my skin but they can see it!
Oh well, I don’t get my arms out much anyway and my legs don’t have it.

Skinnyjeansandaloosetop · 07/07/2021 23:57

A bad diet is not a cause of KP. It’s mostly genetics causing a build up of keratin. Telling people they have it because they eat too much sugar and carbs is unfair and untrue

postcardfromme · 08/07/2021 00:00

Exfoliating towel?

Susannahmoody · 08/07/2021 01:40

How's your diet, op? Might need an overhaul.

Mine has disappeared since I started low carb

stopchewingeverything · 08/07/2021 02:28

Mine used to disappear every summer....I started taking a Vit D supplement in the winter too and it never came back. I'd try a vit D supplement if I were you!
