It’s not made up. I knew a Carmody (female, it was her first name) in my uni days. She was a lovely person and suited her name.

NCkitchen · 07/07/2021 08:45

I dont like it at all. It sounds like cammode-y

SallySycamore · 07/07/2021 11:15

@SpikeDearheart

Carmody was the student vet who got bitten on the arse by a dog in one of James Herriot's books
I thought that too. Grin

But in his case, it was his surname.

It sounds very wild wild West to me 👢

LuxOlente · 07/07/2021 12:56

How about naming it something that doesn't scream "I come from a family that think 'unique' names replace personalities."

Phantasmo · 07/07/2021 12:58

Irish surname

LuluJakey1 · 07/07/2021 17:15

What about Caramac? I like Caramac.

GenericUsername404 · 07/07/2021 17:17

It sounds like one of those automatically generated names companies use for tiles or carpet.

mindutopia · 07/07/2021 17:18

It sounds like the name of a laxative brand to me, sorry!

Lilypansy · 07/07/2021 17:24

How about
Melody
Carly
Ashley
Ottilie
Wendy
Gilly
Ginnie
Ginny
Vinny
Lily
Trinny

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 07/07/2021 17:50

Carmen and common sound nothing alike in a non rhotic accent. The o in common is a hard short o not elongated.

Carmody does sound like comedy in American

CrikeyMatron · 07/07/2021 17:59

Carmody and her twin Tragdeigh.
Absolute opposites!

TSSDNCOP · 07/07/2021 18:04

What's next on your list OP?

Kezzie200 · 07/07/2021 18:35

It's not a great name on so many levels.

If it were me I would find another. There are plenty out there.

My children love being called after their ancestors. They have more modern Middle names.

newnortherner111 · 07/07/2021 19:04

Just no. Think of the responses a child with that name will get throughout their life.

Carmen sounds a good alternative.
