not sure what I think and can't think of a good nn.

Makes me think of Anne of Green Gables. I like it.

GiantWingedWaspMoth · 06/07/2021 22:19

@CormoranStrike

Depends on your accent. In my accent Carmody and Comedy are very different
Mine too, as I have a rhotic accent, but before I read the posts I had said it in my accent and attempted a non-rhotic accent - and it sounded like comedy in an American accent to me too.
TiddyAndFletch · 06/07/2021 22:21

First thought is of Anne of Green Gables.

I didn’t know the phrase rhotic was my accent till I googled that, and I have one too @GiantWingedWaspMoth

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/07/2021 23:18

Not keen.

LuluJakey1 · 06/07/2021 23:20

My great - grandmother was a Carmody (surname) from County Clare

alexdgr8 · 06/07/2021 23:22

sounds like a product, cleaning or toiletries.
definitely not a personal name.

TeardropsFallingOnHotSand · 07/07/2021 00:03

Reminds me of a horse racing family from Ireland.

FaceyRomford · 07/07/2021 02:13

What as in Hugo Carmody, Ronnie Fish's pal?

Pinkandwrinkly · 07/07/2021 02:21

Sounds like commode to me, sorry.

BalloonSlayer · 07/07/2021 07:21

@SpikeDearheart that's what I thought too, the super competent veterinary student who makes Herriot feel inferior! I think he also gets dragged through a field of cowpats by an escaping bull.

Kanaloa · 07/07/2021 07:32

I really don’t like it and have never heard it used as a first name. Carmen is nice.

BillyShears · 07/07/2021 07:36

Immediately made me think of Mark Kermode.

AliceLivesHere · 07/07/2021 07:39

It's quite funny - was that your intent, if so it works.

romdowa · 07/07/2021 07:40

Its a surname.

Normandy144 · 07/07/2021 07:41

My instant thought was commode. It definitely gives inspiration for nicknames but not nice ones. Sorry.

Doghead · 07/07/2021 07:42

Hahahaha. This is a joke, surely!!

RampantIvy · 07/07/2021 07:46

What is it with wanting a name and a nickname? Confused

Just choose a name you like enough to not need a nickname.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 07/07/2021 07:46

I wish people would stop making up names in an attempt to be original. Its a bit depressing.

KatherineJaneway · 07/07/2021 07:56

@Gazelda

I think it sounds too much like 'comedy'.
Agree
PearlNextDoor · 07/07/2021 07:58

I know people with this surname, it's from Kerry I think. Or maybe just that family is from Kerry.

I don't know why you'd choose it as a first name.

I like Kerry! (tangent, and you didn't ask)

PearlNextDoor · 07/07/2021 08:01

wrt the suggestion of Carmen, if you don't pronounce your Rs before a consonant (is this called a non rhotic accent in the uk?) then it will sound very like Common to you!

AprilAzpilicueta · 07/07/2021 08:04

Carmen is a beautiful name.

Or if you specifically want a made up name how about Carmelie? That makes me think of caramel rather than commodes and comedy Smile

PearlNextDoor · 07/07/2021 08:09

I love Camellia or if you want a name that ends in a y, what about Magaly

KateTheEighth · 07/07/2021 08:12

Sounds like you're saying Comedy with a New Yoik drawl
