What do thin/slim people eat?

cherrypiepie · 06/07/2021 20:52

I'm genuinely intrigued as I am far from slim with a BMI of 30.

Watching an American series with some very tiny actresses and thinking that they can't eat much. It was the Bold Type.

So if you are slim with BMI around 20 what do you eat?

And I suppose how much do you exercise? But I reckon the old rule of 80% diet : 20 % exercise is right when It comes to weight management.

This is really interesting! Do you people not crave chocolate?
No. Crisps all the way here. I rarely have them in the house. I very much enjoy them when I do eat them.

Yes, eat it every day. I've had two small slices of cake today too but it makes me feel really sick quite quickly

I can't eat most cake, it usually makes me feel sick. I do like bakery pain au chocolat and similar.

Not at all - I do love wine though so am no saint!

I exercise twice a week and also walk a lot.
I eat 3 meals a day.
Breakfast is always cereal like shredded wheat with full fat milk.
Lunch is usually a sandwich with tuna, salmon or prawns and a packet of crisps. Dark chocolate after lunch.
For dinner I usually have pasta or rice with chicken or fish(not keen on red meat) with salad or veg.
Chocolate, ice cream or cake for pudding.

My BMI is around 22 so not tiny, the main thing I watch is my portion size for dinner. But other than that I eat what I want when I'm hungry.

Kitkat151 · 06/07/2021 22:34

BMI 19.... don’t eat lunch.....only drink alcohol fridays and saturdays....don’t eat sweet stuff ever

Runhome · 06/07/2021 22:35

I'm slim and athletic and I eat nothing but s$$$ - Pizza, chocolate (especially Tony's Chocolatony & Monty Bojangles), chorizo... butter. I don't eat veg or salad. I love Diet Coke.

Have been vetted for work and had a full health check and bloods recently - doctor told me I was super healthy.

I don't understand it either. I just thank my dad for his genes. I do a lot of exercise too for work (think athletics)...

hamstersarse · 06/07/2021 22:35

I've a BMI of 20 and am 46 - the age we all say we should get the old MA spread

I went keto about 4 years ago. I just don't find weight management an issue now, unlike in my 30's when I was constantly monitoring the calories I ate. Can't believe I wasted so much time on calorie counting and the torture associated with it.

I have no idea how many calories I eat now - but probably at least 2000 a day.

I am not totally strict keto all the time now, but I fast a lot, don't eat UPF, and generally have lost that monster on my shoulder constantly thinking about food. I can start my work at 8am and if I am busy not even realise I need to eat until 2/3pm. I'd be nearly fainting at that point pre keto and getting massive hanger.

Anyway, suits me. I'd say life changing in fact.

thriftyhen · 06/07/2021 22:35

I have always been slim. I eat what I want, but don't eat huge portions, junk food, fizzy drinks, many sweet things, just because I don't like it and don't like how it makes me feel.

I get up early and am active with dogs, horses, outside stuff until about 10.30 when I have breakfast, so probably go a long time without eating between supper and breakfast. I don't sit around in the evening. I am always busy doing stuff, particularly at this time of year when it's light outside. If I'm tired, I go to bed. Spending the evening sitting on the sofa would drive me mad!

I would hate to be fat and not able to be active.

Dumbledoresgirl · 06/07/2021 22:36

BMI of 20. Mid 50s.

I eat 3 meals a day. I dont go in for fads or diets. My mantra is a little of what you fancy. I suppose the key is little.

I usually have yoghurt fruit and homemade granola for breakfast.

Sandwich (one slice of bread) with salad and fruit and maybe a small cake or biscuit or packet of crisps for lunch.

Ordinary evening meal. With pud. But smaller portion than I used to have as I did put on some weight (now lost) around menopause.

If I want to snack on a biscuit or something I do. I can afford to because I am not over eating on a regular basis. I think one secret is drinking lots so you can stave off hunger with fluids. Tea, water and kefir are my drinks of choice.

Exercise is not excessive. I dont have a sedentary job so usually easily pass 10000 steps a day. At weekends I sometimes go for a long walk or a cycle ride.

Mansplainee · 06/07/2021 22:38

My BMI has always generally stayed around 18-19, except for when pregnant.
I think because I’ve always been slim I’ve never really had to think much about what I eat, so don’t have any particular rules that I follow. I like food but don’t generally have a huge appetite and so eat smaller portions than most. If we go out for a meal I always struggle to finish a normal main meal. I don’t force myself to either, I just stop eating when I’m full (that sounds really obvious, but I think a lot of people feel like they need to clear their plate)

Runhome · 06/07/2021 22:38

I will just add - being slim doesnt make me inevitably self-confident. I was bullied at school for having no boobs, and I still dont have any. Have very straight up and down boyish frame... when I had DS I put on lots of weight during pregnancy and boobs blew up and I genuinely never felt sexier! I loved it!

Then breastfeeding took it all away and now I'm skinny and saggy too! Grin Gotta just love what you got!

whattodo2019 · 06/07/2021 22:39

@Cazzovuoi

I lost 9 stone without a bit of exercise. Zero. Zilch.

Now I eat a mostly carnivore diet with a lot of meat, some cheese and yoghurt, fruit like berries, avocado and sour apples and sometimes honey. No veg. I have maintained the loss for 5 years.

I am 9 stone with BMI of 22.

can i ask why you dont eat veg?
Sbsh · 06/07/2021 22:39

I've been incredibly overweight, underweight and now at a healthy weight, nothing is off limits for me now, Ive done every diet, low carb, no carb etc etc. What has helped me maintain and keep a healthy weight is nothing is off limits, but junkier stuff has to be in moderation, if I want a pizza, I will have a slice or two and plenty of salad on the side. Vs when I used to eat the whole pizza or try and not eat junk at all and then binge eating.

thriftyhen · 06/07/2021 22:39

@Ilikecheeseontoast

No. I really don't like it. It tends to make me feel sick!
Attheendofthedaywhenallsaid · 06/07/2021 22:42

Attheendofthedaywhenallsaid · 06/07/2021 22:43

NEVER fizzy or sugary or fruit drinks, no pastry. (unless out for the evening)

Demortuisnilnisibonum · 06/07/2021 22:45

Banana or cereal bar for breakfast, salad roll, fruit and some nuts for lunch,, salad, vegetable curry or fish and vegetables or occasionally a wrap for dinner. I sometimes eat cake or ice cream, hardly ever eat biscuits and try not to eat processed food. I’m lucky in that I don’t like creamy sauces, butter or fatty foods, but I love chocolate, so have to really restrict that. In addition, my job is fairly active and I walk and do HIIT regularly.

TheTeenageYears · 06/07/2021 22:47

Same size for 25 years. Bmi 19/20. Tall but slim build naturally (very small wrists). Sensible balanced diet. Barely drunk any alcohol in the last 20 years. Eat chocolate everyday. Don't eat or use butter or even oil generally in cooking. Lots of fruit & veg and good protein. Never been a huge carb eater but do eat some everyday. I consider myself fortunate that I discovered as a teen what worked for me food wise. Have never been a huge exerciser and stick to low impact which is better for your body and hormones. Increasingly realising how much of role hormones have in overall health. No two bodies are the same.

ZednotZee · 06/07/2021 22:48

BMI of 20.

Low carb, high fat.

So three coffees with cocoaand double cream

A cup of bovril.

Low carb crackers with brie and blueberries.

A pepperami

Two Aberdeen Angus burgers with gouda and Mediterranean veg.

Handful of strawberries

Glass of chardonnay

Three cans of coke zero.

SirenSays · 06/07/2021 22:50

I don't drink and often wonder if that makes a difference. It's certainly not genetics as I'm the only woman in my family not on slimming world.

weegiepower · 06/07/2021 22:55

I have a healthy bmi and weight, I used to be a personal trainer but now sahm, I'd say I'm in very good shape (without wanting to sound stupid saying that!) but am muscular and weight train 5/6 days a week.

I put on approx 30kg each time I got pregnant but got back in shape each time (slowly, over period of around 1.5 years both times) so know what it's like to lose weight too.

I honestly now don't restrict anything I eat, but like someone else said previously, it helps not to have an emotional attachment to food. I eat when I'm hungry, when I eat chocolate/sweets/cake etc I only ever eat small amounts because that's just what I fancy generally, if at times I fancy more I eat more. For breakfast I'd usually have a bagel with peanut butter and banana, or with avocado, if I'm working out after I'll have a protein shake with pineapple banana coconut milk, sometimes peanut butter blended into a smoothie, or I'll have some chicken, maybe on its own or maybe with half a bagel, for dinner I'll have chicken and salad, but a nice salad with a nice dressing and stuff in it i like, inc things like cheese olives whatever I have. If I'm feeling extra hungry I'll make some potatoes to go with it. I generally have McDonald's for dinner once maybe twice a week... but don't go crazy, just like a double cheese burger and medium fries no sugary drink. After dinner I'll have some chocolate/biscuits/Kit Kat/ice cream, but don't go crazy with amounts. Some days I eat more than others. I usually have some crisps between lunch and dinner, maybe some sweets or bit of cake whatever is around.

mycatchichi · 06/07/2021 22:56

My bmi is 21

I eats cereal with no milk for breakfast

Lunch is a packet of crisps and a energy drink

Cup of tea with a couple of digestives

Dinner is something with salad

Crisps sometimes before dinner

Small glass of red wine every day. Work out maybe 3 times a week.

Appalling diet but I have digestive problems and can't eat healthy stuff like I used to.

I eat small portions.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 06/07/2021 22:57

I eat fuck all, mainly cause I’m the height of a small teen Grin I work in a hard job and usually do 9000k steps.

I can do bowl of musli (look at the portion weights on the side of the box) plus a banana or kefir

Salad for lunch with protein

Dinner, I do eat whatever is offered but I eat small portions

It’s really about the maths, I also don’t associate food with emotions and all my friends who complain about their weight also complain about eating their feelings.

That’s kind of what I learned, my dear dad always told me “ Food equals fuel !” Bless him

And so I never really associated food with feelings Grin

adrianmolesmole · 06/07/2021 22:59

I don't do any exercise and I eat what I want. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I do like crisps. I'm not emotional about food but I do snack (a lot) when I'm bored, which is almost every day when working. I never thought much about what I ate or how much before, but I've realised it might be a bit less than others as my DP never stops eating. I always thought you have dinner and that's the last meal of the day, full stop! That's how I was brought up. I also didn't grow up with a dessert after every meal either but I think that's cultural. But DP carries on eating after dinner, including midnight snacks etc. For me a midnight snack is a once in a blue moon type thing but for him it's regular. He is a bit overweight and I think that's where the weight comes from, late night eating just before sleeping for several hours. He also is emotional about food, when under stress he definitely comfort eats whereas I go off my food and can't stomach anything. I do always have 3 proper meals a day though, without enough food in my system I am prone to migraines. I think I might have a high metabolism or something.

Ritascornershop · 06/07/2021 23:05

Bmi 22 so not super-thin, but slender. Two adult kids, walk a bit but don’t exercise as such.

I eat small portions off smaller plates and bowls. No seconds, ever. Don’t eat after 6:00pm, ever. Eat one row of a dark chocolate bar a day. When I’m at work I take miso soup with tofu for lunch (I’m vegetarian). I don’t eat processed food (aside from chocolate). We bake our own bread (it tastes better and saves a ton of money).

I love food but just have smaller portions. Lost a stone after my second was born and never put it back on.
