Would you buy an Audi TT

If you only had access to one car, and had a 14 year old son (single parent)

Basically have choice between this and a Jag Fpace.

I do occasionally need a 4WD, but as it’s only usually me and ds in the car or me and dp it feels ridiculous rating round a huge boot and back.

((Currently have a Ford Ranger))

Apologies, couldn’t find a car topic

I know these are not the same cars!
But similar in the e pace f pace I think? Maybe?

The Audi is smoother

MummyJ12 · 06/07/2021 19:26

I really don’t mind if people think that TTs are ugly or nineties. No problem with that at all. Each to their own!
@PaddleBoardingMomma, re; the snarky comments and jealousy, just really hope you were meaning all snarky comments to OP and not just those from TT owners about F-Pace? Because our comments on F-Pace are also just our opinions too. Absolutely nothing to do with jealousy…..

Lonelycrab · 06/07/2021 19:27

They’re two pretty different cars though in terms of driving position, Audi you’re down quite low and cocooned inside, Jag is much more suv style, higher up and roomy. I’d say you’ve got to test drive them both.

Oh! No no ALL the slightly snarky comments lol, I think it's really mean spirited.

I wouldn't have an Audi TT personally. We had one for a while when DH's new company car was delayed but they'd sold his old one on and a TT was all that was available to plug the gap. I didn't rate it. It had all the downsides of a sports car (and we've had plenty of them over the years) but not much character. Basically no space, but a fairly uninspiring drive.
But then we have hobbies that require transportation of loads of bulky stuff so the lack of space was such an issue that it would have had to be amazing to compensate for the inconvenience. I can see that in your situation it would be more viable.

But I guess if you

soooooooG · 06/07/2021 19:30

I hate hate hate the TT, we've had a few Audi's over the years and I just don't like them, I recently turned down an R8.

Not sure I would go for an F pace either but I'd prefer it to a TT.

MrsAvocet · 06/07/2021 19:31

Sorry, posted too soon. Meant to say I guess you really need to test drive them both, maybe fir an extended time if you can, to see if the space is an issue in the TT.

MummyJ12 · 06/07/2021 19:32

Ah! Yes you’re absolutely right on there @PaddleBoardingMomma Smile

MummyJ12 · 06/07/2021 19:34

Most dealerships offer weekend test drives so enjoy them both for the weekend and see which fits your lifestyle the best and which makes you the happiest/smile the most while your driving.

ladymalfoy45 · 06/07/2021 19:34

No. I’d get the one that comes with Jason Statham as a option extra.

wonkylegs · 06/07/2021 19:35

I love my iPace which is fab and will never buy an Audi again (even if the made the best car ever) after their truly terrible customer service with our last one so would from your choices go for the FPace
I do think test driving tends to tell you what you want with a car.

FourTurnings · 06/07/2021 19:35

Hell yes

StarryNight468 · 06/07/2021 19:36

I love my dhs tt. It's a 3.5 ltr and its fast!!! He doesn't ever want to sell it and we have lots of fun driving it.

Jags are for old people!

VeniVidiWeeWee · 06/07/2021 19:37

But which TT?

There's a lot of models.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 06/07/2021 19:40

@StarryNight468

My Jag is, as we're playing top trumps, 4.0 lt, V8 and supercharged. Slow Audi TT's are for young people.Smile

Redtartanshoes · 06/07/2021 19:49

I’d want quattro s line automatic I think?

Might see about a weekend hire/test. Much better idea of how it drives etc than a quick round the block

Why would you want to buy a fossil fuel guzzling car?

Fair enough if you already have one, it makes sense to continue to drive it until you can ‘end of life’ it but actually buying one says a lot about you, and none of it is good.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 06/07/2021 20:01

@GreenWillow

"Why would you want to buy a fossil fuel guzzling car?"

Because some people like fast cars?

BrownEyedGirl80 · 06/07/2021 20:04

Having sat in one at a showroom they are definitely 2 seaters the back seat is like a tiny shelf 🤣so as long as your not playing taxi to ds and his mates you'll be fine.

Redtartanshoes · 06/07/2021 20:06

Lol at fossil guzzling.

I drive 3k miles a month… plug in/hybrid don’t work for me.

Also… I’ve worked for the past 10 years in renewable energy building wind solar and hydro schemes… I’m doing my bit 😂👍🏽

I've had my TT for 10 years - kids fled the nest, so I really only have to worry about myself. We used DH's car for family trips. You can fit masses in the back with the boot folding down - office chairs etc. Also, mine is the 4-wheel drive model, so is great in the snow.

I know they're no longer cool and trendy, but I'm happy with mine until another car comes along that I'd love to drive - possibly electric when their range improves.

Americam · 06/07/2021 20:18

I would. In fact I did. I’ve had it 4 years now, no trouble and I love it.

It’s about 11 years old now - I prefer the shape of the pre 2014 ones.

It has a surprisingly spacious boot but I have to say there might as well be no back seats. You’d have to be child-sized to travel comfortably in the back, I tried it once and hated it. It felt very claustrophobic. It does feel like quite a bumpy ride but that doesn’t bother me.

There’s not much head room - I’d say if you’re over about 5’ 10 you’d be a bit uncomfortable, and it’s a bit awkward getting in and out.

In all honesty it’s not a practical car but 3 of my dc can drive themselves now, and my 4th will soon be able to.

GirlAloud · 06/07/2021 20:23

I had a TT as a loan car for several weeks after some white van idiot drove into my Mercedes. It was the 2.0 petrol Quattro S-line, with the automatic gearbox.

I loved it. It’s by far the best Audi I have ever driven. It’s quick, fairly comfortable, economical and handled really well. Like all Audis, it understeers if you push it, but not excessively. The ‘virtual cockpit’ is just brilliant. If I was going to buy one, I would want to try the ‘Sport’ models as the suspension is allegedly a bit more compliant than the S-line, which may work better.

If you can live with the lack of space, it’s one of the best coupes on sale.

Ekofisk · 06/07/2021 20:32

Definitely Audi TT Quattro.

I’d also add that you can get 3 lanky 6 ft teenagers into a Porsche 911 if they’re desperate enough to get somewhere.

Yellow85 · 06/07/2021 20:33

I’ve driven both. Hated the Audi for space and it was fortune to run/fix. That being said, whilst the F Pace was substantially bigger, the inside felt really sh*t. Like really plastic and cheap - not at all what I expected from Jag so I felt it was a waste of money. If space isn’t an issue the TT was much better internally.
