My daughter had it a while ago. Took the tablets from the pharamacy (whole household had to even though no one else noticed anything). That seemed to clear it up. Only other thing I did was wash our towels, bedding and flannels.

AnxiousAnnie1234 · 05/07/2021 22:43

Thanks @Whatinthelord,
Did you wash it all every day and if so for how long please ?

Hi Annie, I have the same problem my daughter noticed them in her poo earlier! I'm mortified and completely stressing out... Been out and treated us all with ovex hope the other 2 kids don't have them or myself and partner. My OCD has gone bonkers I can't sleep!

Whatinthelord · 05/07/2021 22:57

@AnxiousAnnie1234

DD has had them several times (the child is prone to louse!). Me, DH and DS have never had them, always treated all the family and hot washed all DD’s bedding but it’s honestly not a big deal. Easily treated and a common child issue.

Verbena87 · 05/07/2021 23:19

Ovex, hand hygiene, clean pants/pjs each night, hoover and hot wash. Our son had them and we did this for maybe a week and have had a couple of years without. He’s in preschool now so just biding our time 😂

pleasesendpositivethoughts · 05/07/2021 23:24

I had them as a student; just make sure to treat everyone in the household - not so easy when you’re in halls of residence ! I had them for so long on and off that GP threatened to do sticky tape test from memory - not a pleasant thought . Socks over hands at bedtime can break scratch/transmission cycle too .

AnxiousAnnie1234 · 05/07/2021 23:33

From memory the relief was pretty quick.

Stephy1975 · 06/07/2021 07:42

Thanks for replying. I had a terrible night's sleep I'm literally on the verge of drinking again and I went sober 6 months ago 😭... I know I'm being completely neurotic but I can't help it I have a phobia about these things from a child. Keeping child off today and will be on worm watch and bleaching and washing everything today 😴... Try not to stress too much. Did laugh at and cry at your comment about wanting to burn the house down 😂... I feel the same. We will look back at this and laugh in a few days I'm sure.

gamerchick · 06/07/2021 08:06

It takes a couple of days for them to starve to death. Just wash your bum hole and hands as soon as you get up. Wipe down the touch points in the house (door handles, remotes, phones etc) until the itching stops.

A pack of baby wipes and a bag up to bed can help in the meantime.

WhereDidIGoNext · 06/07/2021 08:14

I know it’s not pleasant but most people with kids will have to deal with this repeatedly. try not to stress out, keep clean, use the meds and it’ll be sorted. Until next time!

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 06/07/2021 08:20

Something we did that helped was after the first time when horrifyingly the buggers came back I always buy enough for 2 doses and I repeat dose the whole family after 2 weeks.
I did wash all the bedding and pjs and the soft toys, cut and scrubbed nails and wiped down all the surfaces but the 2nd dose was the most effective thing so I just do it as standard now.

With ovex, the instructions say exactly that, dose again after 2 weeks. It only kills worms not eggs so the second dose is essential.
Stephy1975 · 06/07/2021 09:04

Yes always do it again 2 weeks after. It's sooo expensive tho. Just dropped the other child off at school and the teacher reasurred me and said she gets them all the time 😱 hazard of the job! She's going to put something in the newsletter so make parents aware of them as we can do all we can at home but if parents don't check poos or bums or kids aren't washing hands enough it will go on and on and on. Anyways... Feeling a little calmer... Now off to burn the house down!

Notstrongandstable · 06/07/2021 09:13

I definitely agree with PP about taking a second dose 2 weeks later.
I couldn't work out why DD kept getting them again but once I did that we cracked it.
My sympathies, it's grim!

AnxiousAnnie1234 · 06/07/2021 11:23

Thanks all,
So it is possible to get rid of them ? And not be plauged forever 🙈

OP posts:
WhereDidIGoNext · 06/07/2021 11:36

Yes it’s possible to get rid of them. You just get them back again if you’ve got kids I’m afraid!!

AnxiousAnnie1234 · 06/07/2021 11:50

Thanks @WhereDidIGoNext its made me super anxious this morning,
Day 3 im still stripping bed every morning and hot washing,.hoovering and damp dusting everything

Arrgh! So gross. I now worm the family like we're cats every couple of months.

The best discovery of threadworms was DD1 slept so well after I dosed her with antihistamines to help with the itch...I'm tempted sometimes just to do it again for the uninterrupted sleep in

WhereDidIGoNext · 06/07/2021 12:40

I know it’s gross but op please try not to feel too anxious about it. It’s gross but so is changing a nappy. Both come with the territory of having kids. Don’t drive yourself crazy cleaning everything forever. Change sheets, get kids to sleep in clean knickers every night, wipe down door handles, toilet seat etc, normal cleaning etc. With good hygiene and 2 doses of ovex, you’ll be fine and they’ll be gone. Just don’t expect they’ll be gone for ever or you’ll be disappointed

JMAngel1 · 06/07/2021 12:44

Is it obvious if you have them?

My lot have never had them as far as I know.
Do you actually see them moving in the poo? Plus would have an itchy bum?

I think most people realise because of an itchy bum, or parents notice their kids scratching their bums. Sometimes you can see in poo if there are a lot but unless You regularly inspect poo, (!) I think you’d know anyway because Of the itching
JMAngel1 · 06/07/2021 12:48

Thanks - phew, no itching here.
