Pain in back / side any advice?

back123456 · 03/07/2021 20:16

Hi I woke up Friday morning about 4am with a pain all down my left side and left side of my back. Whether I laid or sat the pain wouldn't go. I ended up going downstairs and sat on the kitchen floor. Then laid on the sofa then went into dd bed (she was in my bed).

Yesterday it hurt. I had nurofen?? 3 times a day. Once the tablets wore off though the pain came back.

It's sometimes hard to catch my breath. If I cough sneeze yawn etc it hurts.

If I've just slept funny would it hurt this long?

The severity comes and goes but sometimes it feels like a contraction coming (I'm not pregnant and the pain isn't in that area)

I can't really go to a and e because I don't want to be dramatic. Cause drama with my family. I don't drive. I have 2 children.

Should I call the doctors Monday morning? They now get a doctor to call in 2/3 days so I'm looking at Tuesday / Wednesday.

A hot water bottle worked for a while.

I'm
Autistic so I don't always act how most would.

Thanks

Tjat could be all sorts of things, some serious, some not. It's not from sleeping funny and you do need medical advice as its been going on for a while.

Are you in the UK? If so perhaps the non emergency number (111 is it?).

I'm outside the UK and would call my health insurance's hotline or go to out of hours (not A&E but awalk in for things that can't wait but aren't actually emergencies) but I don't know whether you have access to anything like that?

purplecorkheart · 03/07/2021 20:28

Could be anything from a pulled muscle to a kidney infection and all between. No one here can advise. Depending where you are see if you can get a phone consult from an out of hours med centre. If you have health/travel insurance they might have a helpline.

Are you constipated ?
Does it feel like back pain, or does it feel like it’s inside your body ?
Are you weeing ok ?

I'm in England. Using toilet ok.
Thing is it's not agony I mean I can cope with the pain. I'm just fed up as I've also had a sore throat for a week and the chills.

I just assumed I had slept funny

Please go get yourself looked at.
Sore throats chills and pain could be all sorts of things.

DinosaurDiana · 03/07/2021 20:35

With you saying you’re having the chills I think you need to run it past 111.

back123456 · 03/07/2021 20:36

I don't know where I would do. I've got kids. Don't drive. Husband working away.

I'm
Just thinking of the most common minor solution so I can compare my symptoms.

I know it's ridiculous asking people online Smile

You can just ring them for advice.

back123456 · 03/07/2021 20:43

I've just been onto the 111 website. It said.
Book a GP appointment if you don't feel better in a few days

Does it feel like your back - so does it hurt when you bend and twist, does it spasm down your leg ?
Or is it more like tummy pain or as if you’ve pulled a muscle ?

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 03/07/2021 20:45

back123456 it could be pancreatitis (which isn't always serious and sometimes goes away on its own but can sometimes be life threatening) or a kidney infection (you don't always have typical UTI symptoms like needing to go to the toilet constantly) or diverticulitis (a bowl infection which can become serious) or 101 other things.

Do you have a friend or family member or neighbor who could sit with your children? Think of someone then call the NHS non emergency number or get a taxi to out of hours if you have an out of hours walk in locally.

back123456 · 03/07/2021 20:47

I'm not sure I've pulled a muscle as it's my whole back and left side.

I read something about a trapped nerve.

It comes every 3 seconds. Like a twinge.

Thanks all. I never know what to do in situations like this.

Have you done a covid test for your chills and sore throat? Both are common symptoms of new varient.

back123456 · 03/07/2021 21:35

I've done two COVID tests in the past year. Both times I was convinced I had it but both were negative. This time I don't feel as bad so I didn't want to waste a test.

The last two times my mum went mental as she helps out with the kids and said they now have to isolate because I booked a test and I shouldn't have but I genuinely thought I had it.

Sorry phone was on charge.

can you get home tests in the UK? Purely for your own information - so if you get a home test positive then you take an "official" test, or conversely to put "unlikely but not impossible" fears to rest. I keep a few 85 cent tests in the cupboard for this (my teen is the only one who uses them so far but they're mildly useful to put her mind at rest - she's mid exams and understandably occasionally a bit anxious).

back123456 · 03/07/2021 21:46

I've had a test at home yes. It took 2 days then 2 days for the results. Might be quicker now.

OP posts:
alexdgr8 · 03/07/2021 21:47

you need to ring 111 and tell them everything.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 03/07/2021 21:53

back123456 that's not quite what I meant - where I live you can get home lateral flow tests which are like home pregnancy tests, results at home in 15 minutes, no sending anything off. They're purely for individuals' own information but handy. I assume you can't get them in the UK?

Anyway you need to call the nin emergency number or go to awalk in out of hours (not A&E) as what you have could be dozens of things other than covid - some serious, some not, but nobody on MN can diagnose you!

covidsucker · 03/07/2021 22:16

The twinge and spasm feelings in your back snd side sounds like a possible kidney stone.

The tubes connected to your kidneys go in to spasm when a stone is trying to pass . It can be anything from an annoying pain to absolute agony. I’d be wary that you have chills that it could be stuck or becoming infected. Kidney infections get nasty quickly.

I’m not a doctor or medical person but you do need medical advice quickly.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 04/07/2021 10:20

back123456 how are you doing this morning?

back123456 · 04/07/2021 10:23

I requested a call from 111 online about 9am.

I've just phoned them. They said they would send an ambulance. I refused it I'm not dying. I'd feel right embarrassed.

Someone will call be back within 2 hours.

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

back123456 how are you doing this morning?
Hi sorry cross posted.

I just feel hot and sick really. Bit confused. I told the person on my phone he had my old number but the one I read out was my new number. They do end similar though so that might be it.
