How to get rid of the brain fog?

Bellasblankexpression · 03/07/2021 19:48

I constantly feel tired at the moment, properly lethargic, and brain foggy like I have no motivation to do anything and just kind of float through the day.
I’ve been trying to exercise regularly and know my diet is rubbish at the moment but I’m really trying with it now. Is there anything else you find that helps?

I don’t think I’m unwell, I think it’s more of a mental tiredness if that makes sense although I was wondering if vitamins or something would help

Multivitamin.
Weighted duvet.
Regular exercise.
5 lots of fruit and veg a day.
Is your day structured?

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/07/2021 20:02

Definitely address the diet - it made a big difference for me. Go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time every day. Are you taking any medication?

QueenMabby · 03/07/2021 20:03

Blood tests to check iron levels, vit B12, vit D and thyroid function.
HRT dependant on age.

EssentialHummus · 03/07/2021 20:03

Get your thyroid checked.

Vitamins
Fruit and veg
Fresh air

Bellasblankexpression · 03/07/2021 20:22

Not taking any medication or vitamins.
My day is structured but around DS and I’m finding more and more I feel like I just exist to look after him and cook and clean etc (I know, very woe is me - DH is very hands on but works full time and I am self employed but my career is essentially dying after the fall out from the pandemic)

My diet has been truly atrocious - lots of takeaways and convenience whereas I was very healthy until the beginning of this year, not really sure what happened.

I need to know as well

Bellasblankexpression · 03/07/2021 20:22

I’m finding it hard to wake up and feel very groggy and sort of wake up exhausted even when I’ve slept well - I was wondering about iron levels as well

How much alcohol do you have a week?

Zzzzribbetzzzz · 03/07/2021 20:24

I find floradix really helps with this as a bit of a boost

GiantToadstool · 03/07/2021 20:26

Following. I have brain fog as part of cfs but I know my diet needs work.

Bellasblankexpression · 03/07/2021 20:26

@PersonaNonGarter not a big drinker at all, maybe one or two glasses of wine at the weekend and that’s it.

How old are you, I have been getting brain fog this year at 43 and think it's perimenopause?

GrandmasCat · 03/07/2021 21:16

Better sleep at night and maca tablets

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 03/07/2021 21:22

How old are you? Watch Devina's menopause program on 4. Could be peri menopause. Brain fog is a classic symptom.

Bellasblankexpression · 03/07/2021 21:28

37! And planning to have another DC at some point so am hoping it’s not that.

What are Maca Tablets for?

I also think I might have a dust allergy as my house is SO dusty (I don’t know why, it’s a losing battle, there’s big bits of grey fluff everywhere always) and I constantly wake up in the early hours with a blocked up nose, I’ve posted about it before.
People suggested antihistamine but it didn’t make any difference and I’ve switched pillows and still no difference :(

Try cutting out sugar, it will get worse for a few days but then might be immeasurably better.
I definitely notice a big improvement in concentration levels when I'm off sugar.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 03/07/2021 21:33

Get your thyroid activity checked via a blood test, you've got a classic symptom.

accentdusoleil · 03/07/2021 21:38

Reduce / get rid of sugar and caffeine

Reduce carbs

It helped me loads

Bellasblankexpression · 03/07/2021 21:39

Can you just ask for a thyroid check?

Poor diet leads to a cycle of less good gut bacteria and possibly an increased risk of inflammatory illness. Try to eat more plants at least as well as the junk, if not replacing some of it. Include fermented foods and prebiotic probiotic type things though research these because many are useless.

FrannyHaddock · 03/07/2021 21:42

Definitely get blood tests.

I’ve felt like this twice over the past few years. The first time my vitamin D was very low, and within a month of taking supplements I felt SO much better. Second time it was very low iron/ferritin.

Bellasblankexpression · 03/07/2021 21:43

I’m going to really try and cut the junk out as I feel awful on it but I’m really struggling to break the habit

I’ll speak to my GP next week

OP I found this recently which perfectly described how I've been feeling lately. Kind of a relief to know it s a 'thing': www.nytimes.com/2021/04/19/well/mind/covid-mental-health-languishing.html

Could this be it? No other tips to add to the great ones PPs have posted... hope you find your balance soon x

If your nose is blocked a lot, might you be snoring?
