Just made a very expensive purchase and now panicking! Reclaimed wood table!

I've ordered a reclaimed wood dining table and lovely matching bench. It was pricey and I'm now having a panic reading this page on their website!

It could arrive with holes of all shapes and sizes? And they wouldn't accept returns as it's the character of reclaimed wood?

I want it to have character but their description has made me very anxious about the ££££ I've just spent. It's a 12 week lead time and I ordered last night so I'm probably safe to cancel but the photos of them look so lovely I don't want to! I'm also anxious about it being easy to damage/stain, being reclaimed wood? Will it be a nightmare?

I have young kids and need something hard wearing!

Help!

It is hard to scrub if I'm honest because the stain they use to colour it starts to lift. So gravy spills etc need to be wiped up before they dry. Small marks don't show anyway due to the nature

Mugs leave no marks. Honestly we've had ours since 2014 and apart from the glitter and paint which is my own fault it looks as beautiful as ever.

I can't find a pic that doesn't have children in it! Will clear the table tomorrow and take one if I can :)

Sorry I mean the nature of the wood.

@NotMeNoNo

I would ask for it to be hardwax oiled (Fiddes or Osmo) and if not ask for unfinished and do it yourself. Surprised they don't offer it.
They offer water resistant lacquer or wax finish, I assumed water resistant would be best due to being, well, water resistant?

I'm beginning to worry this wasn't the most practical choice. I thought it would be really hard wearing and practical with young kids but now I'm panicking about stains and arts and crafts and expensive regret Grin

Would you recommend to someone with young messy kids? I thought it would be really hard wearing but I'm wondering if I'd of been better off with something less expensive until my toddler is less messy. Or moves out Grin

We've had a reclaimed wood table for 20 years. It was was the first piece of furniture DH and I bought together pre kids and has survived 3 kids - now aged between 10 and 16. We take almost no care of it tbh Blush and it still looks great.

We have the outdoor table made from reclaimed sleepers from the same company and my goodness I love ours! It's such great quality and sturdy and everyone comments on it. We ordered one bench to go with it but loved it so much we got another bench. Looking at what you've ordered I have indoor table-envy now!
