Just made a very expensive purchase and now panicking! Reclaimed wood table!

I've ordered a reclaimed wood dining table and lovely matching bench. It was pricey and I'm now having a panic reading this page on their website!

It could arrive with holes of all shapes and sizes? And they wouldn't accept returns as it's the character of reclaimed wood?

I want it to have character but their description has made me very anxious about the ££££ I've just spent. It's a 12 week lead time and I ordered last night so I'm probably safe to cancel but the photos of them look so lovely I don't want to! I'm also anxious about it being easy to damage/stain, being reclaimed wood? Will it be a nightmare?

I have young kids and need something hard wearing!

Help!

I think it looks lovely - if you zoom in on the photo you can see all sorts of scores and knot holes, they're just part of the charm of the wood. Zoom in and have a good look and if you don't like it then, cancel.

It looks lovely.
It’s probably something that will last a long time, and will look better for some wear and tear .

We have a reclaimed wood table. It's utterly imperfect and I adore it. It also now has glitter embedded in the odd nook or cranny and the occasional paint mark on it. I can still clean it and it makes me happy. It gets used, just like it should.

MIL, whose dining table I have never actually seen under its leather protector and permanent tablecloth, is perplexed by it Grin

We have a reclaimed wood bed and bedroom furniture and it's lovely. It's supposed to have flaws - that's sort of the point!

Throwntothewolves · 03/07/2021 15:29

I did this after visiting the companies showroom, the furniture they had on show was lovely. The table we got was fine at one end, but not at the other. The wood was all split and I really didn't like the way it looked so I returned it. However they had a no quibble returns policy and came and collected it for nothing too. I really can't fault the customer service, it's just a shame I didn't like the table we got.

I'd prob cancel and look for a company who will allow you to return it if you dont like it, even if you have to pay the cost of doing so

bookh · 03/07/2021 15:29

I have one, can pm you company if it helps. Not sure if advertising if I put here. I think what I love most is that nobody else has it. Just unique to me.

Derrymum123 · 03/07/2021 15:30

Looks lovely. I bet Sarah from Money for Nothing could knock one up cheaper.Grin

PenelopeP1tstop · 03/07/2021 15:31

And is it the one that's £395? I know what things cost is all relative but that is a really really good price for a table that they make to order. I paid nearly £1000 for a pretty standard oak one from John Lewis

YellowEllis · 03/07/2021 15:39

It came to just over a thousand for the size we chose and the bench so I'm very nervous! It's the no returns that's freaking me out!

Thats gorgeous, I'm sure it will be fine!

YellowEllis · 03/07/2021 16:19

I will update when it arrives..

I've also realised I've messed up my order! Your supposed to pick a colour and then specify in comments if you want dark or light. I wanted Rugger brown (the colour in my first post!) but didn't go for it as some photos looked way too dark, instead I went for Driftwood. But I've just realised I could of ordered light rugger brown and it would be similar to the first pic! Do I stick with driftwood (this pic - I also happen to have this extra floor!) or change to light rugger brown (pic in original post!)

Anxiety!!! Blush

I prefer the colour in the first picture.

The knots and so on will add character. There's no point going for reclaimed wood if you want bland uniformity.

YellowEllis · 03/07/2021 16:43

Me too! Some photos of it were such a dark brown that I was too scared to order it, I can't believe I didn't read that I could specify for it to be light. I've emailed to change. Blush

You can always put a protective cover on for the messiest people years and take it off for dinner parties.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 03/07/2021 17:55

Looks beautiful. Must admit though my also rather ££££ wooden table basically lives under the table protector and table cloth because I don't trust the kids!

Horsemad · 03/07/2021 18:00

Should be able to return under distance selling regs if you've ordered online?

AsTrueAsADogsLove · 03/07/2021 18:44

I was about to post similar. If you ordered online I thought they have to provide a returns option?
Sleepyquest · 03/07/2021 18:55

We have reclaimed wood and it's gorgeous. Even has a couple of holes and it really doesn't matter!

IHeartKingThistle · 03/07/2021 19:24

I've just realised that ours is the same table! Well, the same company anyway. It'll be gorgeous. Can't remember what colour ours is tbh. We wanted a 210cm table and those don't exist so it was great being able to get what we wanted!

Ooh can I be cheeky and ask for a photo please Grin

@AsTrueAsADogsLove Not if it’s being made to order. Distance selling regs were superseded by the consumer contract regulations. You get a cooling off period on goods bought online etc. However, if the item is being made to a customers spec then it is exempt.

IHeartKingThistle · 03/07/2021 21:09

@YellowEllis we're isolating at the moment so it's covered in my work stuff and the DC's home learning stuff! Hold on, I'll see if I've got one from when it was tidier!

Thanks! Is it bad for ring/water marks from glasses and mugs? Does it stain easily? That's my main worry!

I would like it very much.

I think you are going to be chuffed to bursting when it arrives. Wink

NotMeNoNo · 03/07/2021 21:53

I would ask for it to be hardwax oiled (Fiddes or Osmo) and if not ask for unfinished and do it yourself. Surprised they don't offer it.
