How to not make a fool of myself on dd last day of primary school

Anyone got any tips?

I'm already feeling emotional about it and dd doesn't leave for a couple of weeks.

Leaving primary feels like such a big thing.

For context, I've cried every time she's moved up a year, some people will think this is pathetic but it's just the way I am. I don't like change. Shes had had the same TA for 5 years too.

I just don't want to be the only parent at pick up, sobbing their heart out.

When they did the farewell assembly for my dd's year most of us were sobbing!

Yes, everyone will be the same - including the teachers, if my experience last year is anything to go by!

Don't worry - as long as you don't actually howl with despair, you'll be in good company :)

It takes a lot for me to feel emotional or sentimental and I very rarely cry...but even I shed a tear at DD's year 6 leavers' assembly, after DD (also not usually v emotional) started crying herself....most of the other mums were crying too...so you will definitely not be the only one!

I promise you won't be In the minority if you show emotion.

But don't get competitively weepy - I obviously didn't love my daughter as much as some other parents because they cried more/longer and made sure everyone knew about it

I was so pissed off with how hopeless the primary school were during lockdown one I didn’t feel emotional in the least - couldn’t wait to leave the whole place behind.

I think leaving primary school is so emotional. It's because they no longer seem like your babies ; they're going to secondary school and growing so fast.
I worked in year 6 for many years and I would cry during rehearsals for the Leaving Assembly.
Just take lots of tissues !

God I’m dreading this next year. I was crying when I saw the p7s leave the primary last week and it wasn’t even my child’s year. I need to get a grip lol

Anyways, I’m strongly in favour of crying, as long as it’s not competitive/forced. Isn’t that kind of emotion why we all had kids?!

I'll be the same,ours is next week.In nursery they did a leavers graduation and I was in bits at that.

I'd have cried if I got the chance! My ds left y6 last year and didn't even really get the chance to say goodbye - they never went back in after lockdown and never had all the ceremony and traditions that come with leaving school.

You won't be alone. Take lots of tissues and make the most of it Smile

For me it's the third and last child leaving a junior school we've been in for 8 years. The worst year for me was when dd1 left junior school the same year as ds left infant school. I had two leavers' ceremonies in one day, I had no tears left.

why not?
it's ok to cry, what does it matter if others see you? you are leaving so it's a good time to do it.
if you are lucky you'll set them off 🤣

I have to say I'm not one for tearful goodbyes.
I'm usually the one standing around with tissues and hug the ones that sob.

but we'll see if I break down this year.
my youngest of 7 is leaving primary (13 days to go!) and it's our 16th year going there!
I love the school, but traffic & parking have been horrendous for the last 6 years so in all honesty I can't wait never to have to do that again.
but I wonder if the end of an era might just get to me?

either way I have my Asti in the fridge to celebrate. 😉
