Does anyone feel ill with hayfever at the moment?

I'm controlling the sneezing with Beconase spray and I have eye drops which help in the day then about 4 or 5pm I'm an absolute mess Sad

I can't control my eyes watering and the only thing that helps is a warm wash cloth on my face, eventually things calm down but afterwards I feel wrecked and then I wake up feeling puffy and totally wrecked and I feel like I have a permenant cold.

Is this a really bad year?

It's bad for me OP. Are you taking anything else?

RickiTarr · 02/07/2021 09:24

Yes. Worst ever, Entirely puffy face, horrendous sinuses and piggy eyes, but I’m anti-histamined to the max.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/07/2021 09:24

Yes, it's a bad year I'm afraid. All I can say is Pirinaze is better than Beconase, and I find taking my tablet at night, Pirinase in the morning, and Opticrom drops morning noon and night helps me get through it.

We're into July now so if it's just grass you're allergic to (like me) we're more than half way through!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/07/2021 09:24

If I take tablets, even the non drowsy ones they knock me sideways so I save them for emergencies.

About 30 years ago I used to take Triludan which was amazing but was taken off the marketHmm

It’s a particularly bad year apparently.

I’ve not been too bad but will go to GP if it gets worse.

I found Pirinase spray good but often end up taking an antihistamine tablet in the evening as well.

I found Opticrom eye drops the best.

Washing my face or having a shower and at least rinsing my hair and changing my clothes in the evening helps too.

It’s miserable when it’s bad.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/07/2021 09:25

I might take quarter of a tablet, see if that helps.

Yes me.

This last week has been horrendous. Praying for some rain in Scotland to dampen it down a bit.

I'm using Optrex drops in my eyes, and taking prescription Hydroxyzine tablets from the doctor. Not really wroking.

I feel so bunged up, itchy, breathless. I think people who don't have hayfever realise just how much it knocks you for six, it really does make me feel quite unwell.

RickiTarr · 02/07/2021 09:28

Have you tried all of the different tablets? Loratadine and others make me feel weird but cetirizine tablet plus beconase spray works quite well for me.

Boots website has a queue to get on this morning. I wonder whether that is connected to the pollen count?

namechange30455 · 02/07/2021 09:29

Yes to the point I did a covid test yesterday as I felt so dreadful!

OnOldOlympus · 02/07/2021 09:29

Yeah, it’s been a horrible year for it! Apparently it’s because we had a very rainy spring, followed by dry weather, which leads to more pollen.

I have also read though that the new delta variant can initially present as a cold/hayfever in the first few days, so it might be worth doing a test if you feel particularly rough, just to rule that out.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/07/2021 09:30

I've tried all the tablets, they all make me really drowsy which is ok if I just want to sleep but not ok for every day life/ driving. Actually sitting in the car with the air con on full blast is sooooooo nice 😊

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/07/2021 09:30

I've done a test btw.

And I've been vaccinated x2

I know! I think it's because most people sneeze once or twice, think that's what hayfever is, and therefore think people make too much fuss about it. That used to be me... until I came to London and got proper hayfever.

idontlikealdi · 02/07/2021 09:34

Oh my god yes I feel like I've flu today.

Am on fexofenadine beconase and Eye drops. Nothing is helping today

HelloCanYouHearMe · 02/07/2021 09:37

This year has been horrible for hayfever. Normally a 120mg dose of Fexafenidine a day is enough for me. Im now on 180mg and a nasal spray and its not really doing anything.

I would recommend taking the nasal spray 1st and last thing and a tablet in the evening if you can. I have found a shower in the evening helps too Flowers

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 02/07/2021 09:38

Yes, only fexofenadine and avamys nasal spray work for me, i dab the nose spray around my eyes when its really bad, works well.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/07/2021 09:39

Yes, I always shower in the evenings. Urghhhh it's so shit.

I'll take a table tonight, full on day today so can't at the moment.

It's appaling this year. I'm taking tablets, eyedrops and spray and I'm just managing. This year I'm getting wheezy after any time in green space. DC love running around in parks so I'm hoping it improves before the summer holidays.

TheGenealogist · 02/07/2021 09:42

DH is getting really fed up with me too disturbing his sleep with my snotty, bunged up breathing. Came downstairs this morning to see him browsing an expensive Dyson air filter fan thingy for the bedroom.

Thefaceofboe · 02/07/2021 09:52

This year is the worst I’ve ever had it, but I put it down to being pregnant as I’ve heard so many people say it gets worse with pregnancy. I can’t take over the counter medicine either which is depressing Sad

BabyMoonPie · 02/07/2021 09:54

I'm really struggling at the moment and feel ill with it. I'm pregnant so can't take anything and barrier balm is doing nothing. I'm getting through tissues at great speed and am so fed up of sneezing. Let's hope it eases soon

ineedaholidaynow · 02/07/2021 09:57

@Thefaceofboe the summer I was pregnant was the only summer when I didn’t have hayfever.

I am struggling with it this year too. Interestingly my DM who started to have it really badly a few years ago doesn’t seem too bad this year

Have you tried filling your nostrils with Vaseline? That was my stunning summer pregnancy look. 😂
CaptainMyCaptain · 02/07/2021 09:59

Yes, and a lot of people I know are struggling. I get early hay fever with the tree pollen but it seems to have returned to get me with a vengeance.
