Does anyone feel ill with hayfever at the moment?

I'm controlling the sneezing with Beconase spray and I have eye drops which help in the day then about 4 or 5pm I'm an absolute mess Sad

I can't control my eyes watering and the only thing that helps is a warm wash cloth on my face, eventually things calm down but afterwards I feel wrecked and then I wake up feeling puffy and totally wrecked and I feel like I have a permenant cold.

Is this a really bad year?

There are also some barrier nasal sprays that don’t contain any medication. I use these as a top up remedy

Peridot1 · 02/07/2021 10:03

The Opticrom drops are much better than Optrex I found. They work almost immediately for me.

Would definitely recommend trying different medications. I find Pirinase better than Beconase but I switch it up a bit sometimes and switching seems to help for a few days.

I have also found acupuncture helpful in the past.

What eye drops do people use if they have contact lenses?

sunnysidegold · 02/07/2021 10:06

I saw that Kleenex have made wipes for hayfever - apparently to remove the allergens from your skin. The pharmacy assistant said her husband wipes them on his face then wipes round the inside of each nostril. Worth a shot maybe.

My kid is awful with it. Last year I was convinced he was seriously ill as he was so lethargic and wheezy. Turns out just hayfever 🙄.

He gets a bit spluttery with it which rings alarm bells with school and others due to covid.

Also realised I have hung his bedding out to dry without thinking....indoors only from.now on.

What eye drops do people use if they have contact lenses?

You want preservative free drops, like Opticrom preservative free single dose, or Catacrom. Put the drops in 15 minutes before putting your lenses in, and if in doubt check with your ophthalmologist.

I get hayfever more from tree pollen so not as bad. But DS is suffering this year - he is so snotty

Suzi7979 · 02/07/2021 10:18

Its been the worst hayfever year so far. Nothing is working.

TheGenealogist · 02/07/2021 10:19

Has anyone tried a Dyson air purifier in the bedroom to help them sleep? Expensive, but i'm suffering so much I'm considering splashing out.

MrsPerfect12 · 02/07/2021 10:21

Try taking your tablets at night to see if that helps with the drowsiness, tablets from the doctor are far better than over the counter. I start taking mine in March and it helps keep on top of it through the summer. I suffer badly, my gland swell, I feel like I have the flu, sweats so I feel your pain.

PositiveLife · 02/07/2021 10:21

Yes, it's bloody awful at the moment. I'm so tired and all the tablets make me drowsy. No chance of getting fexofenadine cos I can't even get through to doctors and last time they just told me to buy over the counter tablets (that I'd already explained make me drowsy Angry)

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 02/07/2021 10:24

Not too badly, although my voice has permanently disappeared. DD's eyes are terrible, but trying to get a telephone appointment for a prescription is a nightmare. Over the counter antihistamines do nothing for her.

Hen2018 · 02/07/2021 10:29

It’s appalling this year.

When it’s bad, the roof of my mouth itches and what feels like the back of my ear drums! Ghastly.

And my nose/eyes and, weirdly, my hair line.

Gladioli23 · 02/07/2021 10:34

Triludan looks like it's metabolised to fexofenadine which is available on prescription. Might be worth a try?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 02/07/2021 10:37

It's really grim this year

I don't think anyone has mentioned NeilMed sinus rinse - despite maxing out my antihistamine, nasal spray & eye drops a daily or more nasal rinse makes the biggest difference for me. Without it the antihistamine/hay fever gives me horrific headaches etc

playinghippiefamilies · 02/07/2021 10:40

I am struggling a lot with it this year too, I also am pregnant so can’t do much about it!. It’s giving me awful headaches as well

sempiternal · 02/07/2021 10:42

Yes. After very mild hay fever last year, this year it's hit me hard. The worst bit for me is how groggy it makes me feel, I just want to sleep!

FrenchieMomma · 02/07/2021 10:44

Suffering too! No real advice but just popped on to say those of you who are pregnant speak to your GP - last year they prescribed me a nasal spray and also told me which antihistamines I could take if I was really suffering.

BlibBlabBlob · 02/07/2021 11:04

Really weird tip and it's not for everyone, but did you know that intermittent fasting (limiting the time 'window' in which you eat during the day) can massively reduce inflammation in the body and thus also the allergic response to pollen?

I used to have appalling hayfever, would be utterly miserable and feel very unwell and be unable to function.

Since starting IF (I usually eat in a three to five hour window, during the evening) I have barely needed any medication even during really high pollen times. Just perhaps a squirt of Beconase if I'm going to spend a lot of time in someone's heavily-planted garden.

During the day I survive on black coffee and unflavoured water. No hayfever, have lost quite a bit of weight and kept it off, more energy and sharpened mind, genuinely don't get hungry.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 02/07/2021 11:31

Oh Blib that's depressing to read - I mostly OMAD & still take everything going ConfusedGrin
Glad it works for you though!

spiderlight · 02/07/2021 12:19

I very rarely get hayfever, but it suddenly hit me yesterday evening and my nose has been streaming. My nasal passages were so inflamed last night on the one side that my teeth were throbbing enough to wake me several times. Antihistamines have helped slightly but not much. I've had this with hayfever before but never this bad :(

I'm double jabbed and am going to do a lateral flow test later today, as we're meant to be seeing the in-laws tomorrow for the first time in a year - we'll be in their very very verdant garden, so I'll be a mess!

MrsGulDukat · 02/07/2021 12:23

Yep. Woke up feeling rough this morning.

Ache in my neck and shoulder. Sinus pain and sneezing loads.
