I don't understand 'call me by your name'

There's a film, and now a song about it. Why would you want have someone else call you by their name? Is is supposed to be romantic in some way? Am I being a bit of a wet blanket to think that it would be confusing rather than romantic? Is it a reference to something that came before the film/book and the song?

The 'call me by your name' thing in the film was something they agreed on so they could keep their affair secret, so if anyone heard them being lovey dovey, they'd only hear them saying their own name. That's how I understood it, anyway. I thought it was a lovely film, but the parents liberal attitude was a bit... unbelievable. Also, the father's speech at the end was toe-curlingly bad.

I bought the film ages ago so watching it doesn't give any more money to anyone who may not be decent.
I love Oliver the character, the actor for me is now irrelevant.

Dammit - I listened to it only yesterday and you are right, I got it so wrong.

I’m just obsessed with bringing Chesney’s name up and furthering his career. I had a poster up on my uni halls wall.

Chesney, Chesney, Chesney

I haven't heard the film soundtrack, the song that I'm thinking of is the one that's on the radio at the moment. I like the song and was singing along, which made me wonder about the phrase.
The best bit is that rather than being stoned to death he is butplugged to death.

@CorianderBee

Well that's my opinion. Ofc. I'm not Lil Nas
I would so love it if Lil Nas were a MNer Grin

I think it means like when you get married and take your spouses name?

So call “me” by “your” name is like “call me Mr Picklesandgiggles” cos you wanna be married to them maybe?

Could be barking up the wrong tree though!
