I’ve never bothered but now I’m going to bother!

I am an absolute tart when it comes to grocery shopping - Tesco, Asda, Waitrose, Ocado, Marks and Sainsbury’s.

Tia!

I agree Tesco. I seem to accumulate points very quickly whereas Sainsbury’s we’ve been buying shopping and petrol from for years and only have about £20 on my Nectar card

Sainsbury’s but you need the nectar app - we’ve accumulated £104 since Christmas!

Scaredycatmoo76 · 28/06/2021 18:18

Do you do the Tesco plus thing?

Lidl have a great app called Lidl Plus, lots of discounts each week to apply and I get a £10 off voucher every month as I always spend a certain amount. Plus spin the wheel/scratch card type games after each spend to win extra prizes/discounts.

36degrees · 28/06/2021 18:33

Co-op - a proportion of the points you earn goes back in funding to a local good cause as well as turned into money to spend in-store.

2021DNA · 28/06/2021 18:38

I have the Tesco, Waitrose and M&S loyalty card. Tesco is the only one where the pints equal money. M&S give you extra discounts and freebies. Waitrose tent to give you vouchers to get money off your shopping.

Comedycook · 28/06/2021 18:40

I have the Lidl plus app. There are coupons for money off certain products. If I spend £100 a month, I get a £2 voucher and if I spend £200, I get a £10 voucher so £12 worth of free groceries a month which is handy.

Newnormal99 · 28/06/2021 18:43

Check the networks but airtime rewards gives 2% back on sainsburys if you link your bank card. I do 90% my shopping their so that's really adding up.

Also with nectar you need to get the app abs use the bonus offers as that's where most of the points come from.

At Xmas they do double up so you can exchange vouchers to spend in store on home / gift type stuff for double the normal money value.

Thirstquenching · 28/06/2021 18:43

As others have said Lidls app is great

Lipsandlashes · 28/06/2021 18:48

Hands down for me it’s Tesco. M&S is also good and I frequently get £5 off a £40 shop voucher, as well as Sparks offers.
I lost my Nectar card about 10 years ago and never bothered to replace it as the points were so stingy.
Boots Advantage is also really good, although not a food shop

We've accumulated about £200 since Christmas. I love Nectar!
WellTidy · 28/06/2021 18:56

Waitrose is dire these days. There was a time when you could choose nine or so items and have 20% off every time you bought them. Regular things like loo paper etc. Now they periodically send you some paper vouchers for £1 or 50pence off things that you regularly buy. Obviously there is a saving, but it doesn’t compare well with those from other supermarkets.

ElfDragon · 28/06/2021 18:59

I think Nectar is quite good. I get points from petrol (majority), and do top up shops in Sainsbury’s. I usually get around £100/year, which is good going. I’d get loads more if I did my full shop there too, but it’s just too far away to be convenient, and I didn’t get on with them online.

If you have the app, then you get loads of extra offers too.

Clawdy · 28/06/2021 19:36

Tesco is the best, I think, and the Clubcard special offers instore also save a bit of money.

FizzyPink · 28/06/2021 19:47

Oh yes, the clubcard offers are definitely a plus for Tesco at the moment. I popped in to get some drinks and snacks on the way to a friends the other night and clubcard offers took it from £13 to £11

daisyducky · 28/06/2021 19:49

If you change to tesco mobile and get the points added to your club card that really boosts the vouchers you get

wendz86 · 28/06/2021 19:51

The nectar app has definitely improved the amount of points I get a lot . Tesco is good because there are more places to spend points .

Branleuse · 28/06/2021 19:54

Tesco is best.

spookycookies · 28/06/2021 20:11

Sainsbury's is good because they do double up events at Christmas. I get £100 worth of clothes essentially free.

TheRebelle · 28/06/2021 20:27

Tesco, I don’t even shop there but I’ve got one of their credit cards and I use it for everything and pay it off at the end of the month. I convert the points into passes to Merlin attractions or other days out that I would normally balk at the price of or off restaurants or jewellery. I’ve had loads of good ‘treat’ things that I wouldn’t have otherwise bought with the club card points.

modgepodge · 28/06/2021 20:33

I do the Tesco Clubcard plus thing. You get 10% off 2 big shops a month (limited to £200 each time I think). On my 2 biggest shops I spend about £120-140 so that’s £12-14 off, twice a month. It costs £8 a month. You also get 10% off certain things all the time, Tesco nappies and the clothes are the ones I remember as I buy them but there may be others! I always did my big shops at Tesco so a no brainier for me.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 28/06/2021 20:36

Agree Tesco. I regularly have £4 in points to take off my shop and I only do once a month shopping.

Waitrose- if you pay with the JL Partnership Credit Card you also get more vouchers. The vouchers are not bad but it forces you to buy certain types of products.

Nectar- esp connected with Ebay and now Avanti for travel can be ok but slow to build up. You really have to save them up for a tenner then feel like they are being spent on something worthwhile. I was given an outdoor garden set bought with Nectar points- the guy in homebase said it was the most points he had ever seen.

Madcats · 28/06/2021 20:57

I am a firm believer of "divide and reap".
I didn't check to see how many adults in your household, but DH and I get varying degrees of vouchers from Waitrose/Sainsbury’s/Tesco to lure us back.

Waitrose will get you free coffee and newspapers and their instore magazines if you spend £10 during the week/£15 at weekends.
