Best non chocolate confectionery

Inspired by the lovely chocolate thread....

My friend can't eat chocolate, she also won't eat anything containing gelatine (but isn't vegetarian).

I usually make some peppermint creams, florentines or fudge when she's coming over but would like some new ideas. General suggestions would be appreciated but even better if there are some specific little gems (eg xx from Aldi, yy from Lidl), or links to recipes.

I know sweet treats aren't necessary but we often have her and her DH over with other people who invariably bring chocolate so I like to have something she can enjoy too.
Thanks

Honeycomb...it's surprisingly easy to make

BlowDryRat · 25/06/2021 23:16

Possibly not one you can make but flying saucers are the best sweet.

Marshmallows. Even a box kit are far far better than shop bought

Scottish tablet. I haven't made it myself as I'm awful with sugar but apparently the trick is fo really beat it hard. Smile

longtompot · 25/06/2021 23:30

Fudge from the Fudge kitchen.

You can make lovely meringues with aquafaba (the liquid in a tin of chickpeas).

M0rT · 25/06/2021 23:44

Marzipan all the way!
Also pecan brittle is very easy and delicious. It's basically melted butter and honey poured over a tray of pecans and left to set.

Midnightballerina · 25/06/2021 23:46

Turkish Delight or a selection of Baclava (not confectionery but still a treat)

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 26/06/2021 09:01

Wow, thank you all, appreciated

DD loves Kandy Kittens but they are pricey

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 26/06/2021 09:13

Does she definitely like sweets OP? She’s not making excuses for diet reasons? If not I’d do florentines or mini macaroons or candied nuts

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 26/06/2021 09:35

@TomorrowIsAnotherDae she LOVES sweets, and really misses chocolate but it gives her migraines.

Would she be ok with carob? It would give her an almost chocolate feeling but might not affect her the same way.

I used to buy carob coated raisins and yogurt coated raisins in Holland and Barrett and loved them. I don't know if they still do them but might be worth a look.

Caramel fudge topped flapjack.

Spectacularly easy and never goes wrong

DaisyDreaming · 26/06/2021 10:24

Honey comb, caramelised nuts (sadly I’ve lost my recipe but it was easy to make in a pan and always came out amazing)
