fussygalore118 · 24/06/2021 23:18

Managed to get a child free weekend in Manchester for OH birthday. Any good recommendations for things to do and places to eat, We love Street food, relaxed places to eat more than fancy places. Budget not an issue ( it's a big birthday) we are staying in the Clocktower hotel :)
First weekend away no kids for aggges so looking forward to sleep, so brunch places would be great too!

The Richmond Tea Rooms in the Gay Village. About a 5 minute walk from your hotel. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland www.richmondtearooms.com/

If you like Thai food then Thaikhun in Spinningfields is a street food style Thai restaurant. Also El Negro tapas on King Street is good. Or Uncle Sam's chop house is really old school Manchester. You could go up to the cloud bar at the Hilton hotel for drinks with a view. Also have a look at Black Dog Ball Rooms. And Breakout is good if you fancy trying an escape room.

The Alchemist for cocktails

The Refuge for food / drinks
Albert's Schloss for food / drinks

Is there? I know there are restrictions between Scotland and Manchester but can't find anything wider?

Mackie Mayor in the Northern Quarter, good for brunch. Rudy’s for pizza, either Ancoats or Peter Street. In fact, most places in the Northern Quarter. Sugo for outstanding pasta, also in Ancoats. www.sugopastakitchen.co.uk/

All within wali]king distance of your hotel.

When we were there last year there was street food on the Piccadilly gardens . Different types of takeaway type food . Also inside the Arndale at the one end there is a food court selling lots of types of food . We were eating Chinese at 10am .
I don’t know if these are what you are looking for but worth a look .
We stayed close to the Arndale and didn’t visit the Trafford centre coz everything we needed was close by .

Lowry centre if open, Imperial War Museum north.

prettyvisitor · 25/06/2021 06:53

You could go to escape to freight island or hatch if you like street food? They are outdoor venues with entertainment/various food stands etc, you'd need to book a slot.

If you're there for Sunday lunch I'd recommend Mackie Mayor or I'm told the Edinburgh castle pub is excellent.

I think it's 'advised' not to travel in or out of parts of Greater Manchester. So advisory, not a ban...

Really, of all the places you could go you want to go to where the rates are high and continuing to rise

Bluesheep8 · 25/06/2021 07:19

Manchester's China Town is very nice

Africa2go · 25/06/2021 07:30

Some good suggestions on here. Sugo, El Gato Negro really worth a look, Bundobust as well plus Tast Catala. I'd also recommend Dishoom for breakfast, so good.

Also, have a drink at 20 Stories even if you don't eat there, view is amazing.

Or perhaps we booked before the rates were rising... we are both double vaccinated and will take sensible precautions.

Exactly.
Zimmerframe123 · 25/06/2021 10:42

You are spreading it around. People in Manchester have been told to keep local so why do you think it’s fair that you can come here? We’ve been vaccinated as well. Variant is going to spread. Having the vaccine doesn’t stop you spread it

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 25/06/2021 11:05

Sick of hearing those who have been vaccinated use the fact to validate their behaviour!

Rates are coming down everywhere but the SE.
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 25/06/2021 11:10

Rates in greater manchester are not coming down Hmm

NotPennysBoat · 25/06/2021 11:24

Mowgli in the corn exchange for the best Indian street food. Brunch at the Ivy.

I came onto this thread to say Bundobust and El Gato Negro. We have both in Leeds too and I love them both very much.

If they're the same set up in Manchester, Bundobust is quite casual but amazing food and good craft beer and El Gato Negro is more upmarket but good food and cocktails, so good for a bigger night out. More expensive, but it's a special occasion and it sounds like you're happy to push the boat out a bit.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/06/2021 11:27

Oh yes, Mowgli too. I think you need more than a weekend OP. Smile
