Request to change Ebay feedback

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 24/06/2021 13:18

I buy a lot from ebay and rarely leave poor feedback. I received a very shoddy item. Fair enough it was described as used and looked OK in the photographs but it is bobbly all over and the labels have faded to nothing. I wouldn't have considered the item fit for a charity bag
I couldn't be bothered to ask for a return so I decided to duck it up and left negative feedback stating the above
I've had a request to change the feedback on the grounds that I didn't contact the seller
WWYD?

You should have requested a return before leaving bad feedback

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 24/06/2021 13:30

I guess I didn't want the hassle and actually think that if someone sells something only fit for the bin they deserve the negative feedback

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 24/06/2021 13:33

I think in that case I would let the feedback stand. They knew they were extracting the wee when they put it on. Who puts a bobbled item on Ebay?!

I’ve sold literally thousands of items on eBay over the last fifteen years. I try to be accurate and honest in my descriptions. I’ve made a genuine mistake three times over that period of time, one was on sizing and the other two were where an item had slight colour fade that I genuinely didn’t notice probably because the only time I had to list and pack was in artificial light in the evening rather than in daylight. All three times the buyers contacted me to let me know and every time I apologised profusely for my error and refunded immediately and paid the return postage. They all gave positive feedback because I’d happily and immediately put my mistake right. Thankfully they didn’t take your attitude. I also follow the same rule as a buyer, I give the seller a chance to put things right. If they then don’t, then they get a negative, but in my experience it’s rare.

Countrylane · 24/06/2021 13:44

It annoys me when the seller tells you to send back something only fit for the bin - that means I have to queue up in the post office and waste my time. I’d rather just leave an honest review!

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 24/06/2021 15:15

You can judge all you like Dentons but I have bought dozens of items and am a good buyer. I have contacted sellers when I've found a hole or marks in the item that they may have missed and we have sorted it out. This is only the second time I have left negative feedback and its because the overall item is in very shoddy condition so it's not something that was accidentally missed

So why ask WWYD then if you’re not interested?

memberofthewedding · 25/06/2021 01:15

I just refund and treat it as a tax write off.

WineAndMassage · 25/06/2021 01:20

I never leave negative feedback on eBay, as sellers will less likely to accept your offers in the future because they check whether buyer got history of leaving negative feedbacks for others. eBay is so unfair towards sellers, they would do anything to avoid potentially problematic buyers.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 25/06/2021 05:35

Dentons you accused me of being a bad buyer which isn't true

OP posts:
PineappleTart · 25/06/2021 05:40

I'm with Denton, you didn't give the seller a chance to rectify.

SticksAndStoned · 25/06/2021 05:40

I wouldn't give a negative review without first giving the seller a chance to sort it.

It's not like Amazon, where you are reviewing the item. You are reviewing the seller - and you can't do that fairly if you haven't given them a chance to rectify the situation.

EishetChayil · 25/06/2021 08:18

You ought to have taken it up with the seller first.

But you don't seem to want to be told that.

Poorlykitten · 25/06/2021 08:22

You do need to give the seller a chance, it’s poor form not to contact first.

Veterinari · 25/06/2021 08:44

You're reviewing the seller, not the item @WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld

How do you know it wasn't a genuine error? How can you honestly review their service when you refuse to engage with them?

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 25/06/2021 10:44

How many come on here complaining that sellers are attempting to get the item for free
I have contacted sellers before if I've found a mark or a hole and we have sorted but this item is bobbly all over and shoddy and nothing that could be missed. I was shocked that someone saw it fit to sell

OP posts:
WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 25/06/2021 10:44

What's the point of feedback if anything negative is removed?

OP posts:
GiantWingedWaspMoth · 25/06/2021 10:45

Op: aibu

MN: yup

Op: NO I'M NOT!

GiantWingedWaspMoth · 25/06/2021 10:47

@WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld

What's the point of feedback if anything negative is removed?
What's the point of giving feedback about a seller when you don't know how the seller responds to an issue?

Once again. You are reviewing the seller, not the item.

GiantWingedWaspMoth · 25/06/2021 10:56

In case this helps, this is what eBay themselves have to say about leaving feedback.

The key point is this

'If there's a problem with your order, contact the seller first and try to resolve the issue before you leave Feedback'

Request to change Ebay feedback
WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 25/06/2021 10:57

GrinRead properly. This isn't aibu and I didn't ask aibu
I asked wwyd. I didn't say I would do the same so stop being a tit

OP posts:
GiantWingedWaspMoth · 25/06/2021 11:01

It might not be what you asked, but it's certainly how it's coming across!

WWID? I would follow eBay's guidelines and not give feedback before I had given the seller a chance to sort the issue.

Fwiw I've never seen anyone complain about a seller trying to get something for free. That's just peculiar. How would they do that?

LindaEllen · 25/06/2021 11:09

If it was a small issue I'd say always contact the seller first - as it may be able to be rectified. However in this case, where the item was obviously much poorer quality that in the photos provided, I would leave negative feedback like the OP did. Other buyers need to know that this particular seller will try their luck at sending shoddy items.

thriftyhen · 25/06/2021 11:12

It is unreasonable not to contact the seller before leaving feedback. You have no idea how they might have responded. You are assuming that they would ask you to send the item back before they gave you a full refund. Maybe they would have refunded you and let you keep the item (even though you might not want it) and save you a trip to the Post Office. Maybe they were trying to pull a fast one, but likewise it could have been a genuine mistake. I'm not surprised that they're asking for a retraction of your feedback! This might cause you a whole load more hassle than if you'd spared a minute to send the seller a message in the first place.

Veterinari · 25/06/2021 16:46

@WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld

GrinRead properly. This isn't aibu and I didn't ask aibu I asked wwyd. I didn't say I would do the same so stop being a tit
Ok so basically everyone has said they would contact the seller.

Why bother posting if you have no intention of taking other perspectives on board?
It's a waste of everyone's time
