Request to change Ebay feedback

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 24/06/2021 13:18

I buy a lot from ebay and rarely leave poor feedback. I received a very shoddy item. Fair enough it was described as used and looked OK in the photographs but it is bobbly all over and the labels have faded to nothing. I wouldn't have considered the item fit for a charity bag
I couldn't be bothered to ask for a return so I decided to duck it up and left negative feedback stating the above
I've had a request to change the feedback on the grounds that I didn't contact the seller
WWYD?

In my first foray into eBay buying the item came damaged from the post. I wasn't really au fait with the buying etiquette and simply left feedback saying that the item came damaged. The seller was raging! And messaged to say that I hadn't bothered to even contact them to give them a chance to fix it. I felt so bad.

You ne d to engage with the seller and explain that you don't want to have to queue at the post office.

If it's low value, I would refund you OP without asking for it to be sent back (I sell a lot on ebay).

Of course I'd also block you from bidding again on my listings, but that should suit us both fine anyway.

eBay actually has a rule that you have to contact the seller before leaving a negative feedback but unfortunately most people who leave negatives just tend to lie and say they have contacted the seller even when they haven’t. I’m not saying you’ve done this OP but you definitely should have contacted the seller first to at least have given them a chance to rectify the problem.

Veterinari
Don't bother posting then
I didn't contact the seller and I didn't lie to say that I had so ebay are not enforcing that rule

It sounds like the seller is trying to do the reasonable thing by contacting you first, before contacting eBay. Your feedback may well be deleted if the seller has to resort to contacting eBay.

Why not just answer the question? Confused

I love reading neutral/negative feedback on ebay, its one of my tragic pastimes, like reading YouTube comments. Anyway, yes you should have followed the procedure, but equally, the seller should be describing their items properly. I find it hard to get worked up over, and as a buyer, negative feedback doesn't affect whether I buy from a seller or not, eBay's buyer protection is great.

I've been selling on ebay since 2004 and recently received my first negative feedback rating. It was due to me making an error in my listing Grin I accepted it with good grace and moved on.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 25/06/2021 19:07

Hard luck Veterinariv it won't be removed. The message I got was the buyer has asked that you remove the negative feedback and I had an ignore button to hit if I wished to leave the feedback

I think it's hard to say that an item is not fit for sale. eBay is essentially an auction site that pretty much anything can be sold on. I've sold things that are broken and don't work- there's usually someone out there that will buy!
The old adage, ones mans trash is another's treasure and all that.

However, if the description/photos don't match the item- that's another thing altogether. If you don't contact the seller, they can't fix the problem but I don't think you have to contact the seller if you're happy to keep the item as is, and leave negative feedback to say photos/description don't match the item.

And, ebay can and will remove negative feedback if their processes are not followed. The seller is able to contact them and say the buyer didn't try to reach out before leaving negative feedback- ebay can check- and will decide if the negative feedback aught to stay or go.

You assume too much.

I couldn't really care less what a random stranger on the internet does or does not do with a review of another stranger

I'm just interested in human behaviour. It interests me that someone would canvass opinions on a totally mundane and full act then absolutely ignore those opinions just so they can be spiteful to a random eBay seller.

It would never occur to me to publicly advertise my own spiteful behaviour (indeed I wouldn't be arsed to leave the review in the first place) but I like to think that if it did, I'd at least be open to taking others opinions on board - otherwise why bother asking? It's illogical

I find it interesting that someone would spend their time so futilely
