A baby shower one...

NC for this as I know they use MN sometimes.

Invited to a baby shower soon and the venue has changed from a pub lunch to someone's garden due to restrictions.

Just found out it's also one of those where everyone brings a dish for a buffet and they want to know what everyone is bringing. Obviously others got straight in there with the easy stuff like crisps and dips and I missed the boat!

So, what should I take?

I don't want to go to too much effort, I'm already going simply because the woman whose party it is is lovely, in general I'm not the baby shower type.

It also now specifies non-alcoholic drinks Confused - so from a pub lunch to a picnic with water! Good job I like her...

BoredOfThisShit · 23/06/2021 23:58

BoredOfThisShit · 23/06/2021 23:59

I wouldnt be up for ‘bring a dish’

But i was a weirdo, even before Covid

Are they expecting a gift along with bring along food??? At least they aren't dictating what you have to bring. 'Bringadish bring a main of XYZ, Naomi, we'd like a veggie lasagne, Tammy, you can make a crochembouche etc!'

I like the idea of bringing nice cordials! Very easy indeed. Otherwise get frozen/fresh or home-made:

  • Cheesecake
  • Gateau
  • Sponge cake
  • Sandwiches or wraps
  • Sausage rolls/samosas
  • Fruit platter

Sounds awful, I wouldn't go if that was the case!

How about olives and breadsticks?

lotstolose1 · 24/06/2021 00:14

Fruit kebabs! With dips :)

Drbrowns · 24/06/2021 00:19

Lidl do a lovely orang and cranberry sparkling drink in their deluxe range. It’s gorgeous cold.

Sausage rolls are always a hit, or merguines with cream abs strawberries for dessert either if everyone else is being savoury dishes.

Gingerkittykat · 24/06/2021 00:37

Home made potato salad is easy to make.

BackforGood · 24/06/2021 00:54

Samosas ?
Sausage rolls ?
Those mini pasties or mini pizzas ?

Something that doesn't need cutting up / cutlery to eat it with / even plates.

MinnieMountain · 24/06/2021 07:06

Mini spring rolls and chilli sauce. Our local Chinese supermarket sells them in big bags.

FelicityPike · 24/06/2021 07:17

Pasta.

FelicityPike · 24/06/2021 07:18

Sorry....cold pasta “salad”

EversoDelighted · 24/06/2021 07:24

I'd just go with sausage rolls or similar, doesn't need to be homemade, the supermarkets are full of nice picnic foods at this time of year. Belvoir cordial and a bottle of sparkling water, job done.

ApplesandBananas21 · 24/06/2021 07:26

Morrison's do sandwhich platers, £10 for quite alot.
Make it easy haha

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 24/06/2021 07:31

Pasta salad or potato salad are both easy and cheap to make. I'd do that unless nobody's taking strawberries and grapes, in which case those!
