Is there something completely “normal” and everyday that gives you the chills for no apparent reason?

Whenever I hear the jingle from an ice cream van I get that horrible swoosh of anxiety but I just got a particularly bad one!

I was upstairs, with all the windows open, when I heard a jingle which sounded extraordinarily loud and sort of echoey. It really sent shivers down my spine and made me feel very on edge.

Is there anything relatively “everyday” which sets you off?

Anyone wet under the chin. Like someone getting out of a pool and not drying or when babies drool when they're teething, it makes my skin crawl.

My legs and feet being touched by anyone, it makes my whole body shudder.

Another one with holes and bumps. There's an advert on TV at the moment for antibacterial something or other, where little bubbles/balloons pop up on surfaces. Even just thinking about it makes me itch all over.

Also deep dark water for me too, can't think about it too much or it terrifies me.

Anything made from wool cannot touch it or even look at it
Quarry’s the vast stillness of the water
Cottage cheese and pears the texture of them
Milk cannot drink it and if I spill any it makes me heave
Frogs everything about them

Buttons and coins and especially copper coins.

If a button drops off DC shirt etc I have to throw it away unless I sew it on there and then. I cannot have a button just hanging around.

If DH leaves change on the side. I either throw it in his drawer or a money box immediately and if I see an 1p or 2p I will throw it in the bin.

Omg I have another one, I only just discovered it tonight as I dropped my son off at Cubs. He's a new starter so it's his 2nd week. There were some older cubs there who had been there ages and earned loads of badges which had all been sewn onto the sleeves of their jumpers. I went really itchy all over looking at all these circular badges together in a cluster. I know I sound mental but can't help it !

Watching something on tv going from land to underwater. I have to look away. When we were on a cruise our cabin was pretty low down on the ship. It was rough weather and the porthole was completely underwater 😱
Adding a filter to a photo. Creepy. My brain is screaming nooo.
Icing sugar being all scringy in the bag.
Driving over a level crossing.

Ughhhh yes - this makes me shudder!

@Crunchymum

Having my blood pressure taken.

Inject me, take my blood - I'm all good but the sight of a BP machine (especially hospital ones) makes me want to leave the building. Not sure how I managed 3 pregnancies Shock

I get the weirdest restless leg whenever I have a BP machine on, its horrible and I have no idea why. As it gets tighter and tighter my left leg starts shuddering, pins and needles, then becomes so restless like I can't keep it still. It stops as soon as it's released.

I hate the bottom of ships when they are out of the sea, with the propellers and everything. shudder

Paper on carpet.

The scratching sound that a a scrubbing brush makes on a bath or a broom on a pavement... Yeek

TorySteller · 29/06/2021 21:43

I can’t walk in any wooded area alone, even in daylight. We have some lovely walking paths through woodland near us - well-used, in the middle of a large town. I still can’t walk them alone.

The thought of someone hiding between the trees terrifies me. I’m fine if I’m with someone else.

The sound of football, or more specifically, the crowd noise at a football match on the television. I detest it and it instantly sends me off kilter.

Thewiseoneincognito · 30/06/2021 02:22

The England flag. It actually makes me feel uneasy, it just reminds me of vile leery Men and rough pubs. Give me a Union Jack any day 🇬🇧

It didn't exactly scare me, but the theme tune to "Tales Of The Unexpected" is very creepy.
permanentlyexhaustedpigeon · 02/07/2021 16:54

Another one - modern town centres and housing estates (and houses) that look exactly the same in real life as they do on a CAD drawing. The lack of any imperfections, the uniformity and the flat tones of everything give me the creeps (and the sense that I might be abducted by aliens/ in the Matrix/ similar..).
Derelict buildings, OTOH, I find quite comforting.

Longtimeagonow46 · 02/07/2021 22:37

Disused nightclubs, really eerie!

HUCKMUCK · 02/07/2021 22:44

I have an aversion to walking down a residential street in the dark and walking past a house that has the lights on and the curtains open. It's particularly bad if I can see people inside. It sort of makes me feel as if I am shut out from the rest of the world. It's worse in winter when it's still quite early but already dark.

Longtimeagonow46 · 02/07/2021 23:44

Chernobyl pictures Sad

LaVieEstBelle159 · 03/07/2021 20:27

Tomatoes in a salad. The thought of biting into one and it bursting just makes my teeth go and I'm feeling strange already. But I can eat raw tomatoes in a sandwich and cooked tomatoes, no problem.

LaVieEstBelle159 · 03/07/2021 20:31

Also windmills, the big modern ones. I can feel panic rising in me whenever I see one; I'm convinced it's walking towards me!!

LidoLady · 03/07/2021 21:05

Lavender absolutely gives me the creeps. If I see it growing outside a house it gives me a bad feeling about the house and makes me feel really uneasy.

APJ1 · 03/07/2021 23:50

The song golden brown.
That too!
