I only ever look for books and dvds. It's made me wonder am I missing out on anything else? I'm not a clothes person, well I wear them obviously but I hate shopping for clothes. Now I'm wondering what else I might be missing out on.

What do you buy from charity shops and have you found any bargains lately?

Bits of plastic toys e.g a random play mobile man or a couple of farm animals, odd bits of wow toys and similar. DS feels he's had a really good trip out if he's a had a root through some toys and selected a few bits!

I buy most of my work clothes from charity shops as I object to spending ££s on smart office wear when it really isn't me IYSWIM.

I usually find lots of M&S, Wallis etc type clothes that are immaculate and perfect for work.

Also, like everyone else I tend to mooch and buy all sorts

Dresses largely. Kids clothes. Found a brilliant proper kid sized guitar for my boys too. Was well-chuffed.

I buy loads from charity shops, mostly clothes, home decor and vinyl records. I sometimes get books, furniture and dvds. Sometimes I go with something in mind and other times I just buy what takes my fancy.

Occasionally clothes but not very often because it’s rare I find anything worth buying. I did buy my DD a Joules jacket once for £2 so I was happy with that! I mostly buy books, especially for my DC.

MIL loves charity shops and buys anything and everything, even if it isn’t very much use to anyone.

There is a amazing cancer research shop, off Marylebone high street. We often pop in when we go to London, and found some brilliant bargains! Grin

I buy books & ornaments usually especially antique/ vintage.

My last buy was a book dated 1932 on 'bees, wasps, ants and allied insects' for £5.
Sadly it seems the author died just before the book was published.

Also a small Sylvac vase with a deer on it. About £6.

Pictures in frames - I remove the pictures and use the frames. I've found some really beautiful wooden ones for less then 50p which would cost about £20 elsewhere.
Children's books in immaculate condition
Lovely wooden toys for my DD
(Recently bought a cute children's gardening set for £1.50 - brand new)
New glass tumblers ( from tk maxx)
Plant pots
A Pine wooden foot stool which was only £3
An amazing green glass gas lamp (from the 1920s) paid £10 for it.
Topshop clutch bag that still had labels on it
Zara wool coat

I don't really buy clothes from charity shops - I mainly go for childrens books but always come out with other amazing bits & bobs!

Books. DVD's to watch while I'm exercising. I'm now quite the expert on films which should never have made it past the commissioning panel Grin. They all get donated back when finished with.

Clothes and shoes. Best buys include as new Converse usually for around £6 or £7 and yesterday's brilliant discovery of a brand new pair of Clark's biker boots complete with label showing they were marked down from £90 to £60 in the sale but practically given to me for £8.

Also found a pair of Fat Face shorts for dh for £4. Similar styles are currently retailing at £40+

I loves me a chaz safari Grin

I don’t have many charity shops in my area, and they are usually full of cheap plastic tat, old Tesco dinner sets or diet cookbooks, but I look for:

  • books (usually children’s books)
  • pure wool jumpers, kitsch or plain

I’d love to find Levis in my size, or a cool coat Sad...

This morning I got a sabichi frying pan with lid (4€), 2 smaller plates - I measured mine yesterday and they are 11 inches - (1€), and a dress in a 14! (3€)

daisyducky · 22/06/2021 14:15

I buy mainly clothes for the kids. Picked up some bargains, Ralph Lauren tops for £3/4, Burberry trousers £5, Veja trainers £6

Oh, and loads of vinyl records. I can't believe I didn't list them! Lots and lots of them. Smile

Rainbowsew · 24/06/2021 20:09

Books mainly, but I'm always on the look out for good paintings, nice china and glass, jigsaws or sewing bits. DH looks for CDs and DVDs.

EventOfTheSeason · 24/06/2021 20:17

I look at most stuff except the men's clothes, at the moment I'm keeping an eye out for stuff for our new house which happens to be in a small town with 5 charity shops!

namcybotwinbloom · 24/06/2021 20:22

Mostly books but I got a lovely jug I'm using as a vase.

I love a good browse
