What's the tooth fairy protocol when the DC has lost the tooth?

DS's wobbly tooth finally fell out... but he doesn't know where it is. He discovered it was missing part way through lunch, so I think he may have swallowed it.

Does he leave a note for the TF and explain? (I wanted to nip out and get a little fishing net for the TF to leave him, for retrieval purposes, but DH won't let me Hmm )

Also, what's the going rate per tooth these days? (It's DC1's first tooth so I'm guessing there's been inflationary pressures in the tooth-harvesting business since I collected 20p a time 30 years ago!)

Has happened several times here and we left a note asking the tooth fairy to use her magic to find the missing tooth. One pound coin per tooth here and its left under their pillow as they are deep sleepers Smile

@Feather12

Yes they accept notes. DS once asked if he could keep the tooth to “experiment” on.The tooth fairy left the tooth and a shiny gold coin.
Dear lord, what did he do with it?!?

Well DS has trotted off to bed asking for tips on how to fall asleep quickly Grin He's written a little note explaining that the tooth may be in his tummy, but he'd looked after it and it was sparkly clean. Fingers crossed it does the trick and the TF leaves him something Wink

We just wrote a note and all OK. Tooth fairy leaves £2 per tooth. Dd hasn't noticed it's the same £2 every time yet. She has no interest in money.
And she will never know it originally came from her money box

I used to do the Tooth Fairy switch at bedtime so I didn't forget (I learned this the hard way when a distraught DS appeared in my room one morning) - quick switch in the dark while 'making sure it's tucked in safe', and if they do ever discover it that night, well then, that's proof that she sometimes comes really early, so they must be sure to go to sleep quickly next time.

We leave anything from 20p to £2, and have said teeth fairies, much like great-grandma, do not understand our currency so you could get any amount. Teeth fairies just leave a coin.

If it is too late, she won't have our house on her delivery and collection schedule so it could be the following night.

Have a little bag to put fallen out teeth in. It will avoid struggling to find them.

As an ex primary school teacher I swapped a tooth for 50p for a child who'd left their tooth in their tray. I was planning to say that the tooth fairy always knew where to collect teeth but he came in incredulous that the tooth fairy had still left money under his pillow. I quietly retrieved my 50p Grin
