I'm cooking chicken that smells quite iffy...

Use by date was yesterday but did smell bad. I was unsure weather to use it but plonked in on top of my prepared veg and harissa mix. Spoke to my husband and said I have two options. Either to chuck the lot out or cook and then see what it's like but that the bacteria would be dead/null cooking at 180+.
So I've done it. Dinner will be ready soon.

Wish me luck

I ate a chicken curry recently made for me by a friend. Half way through it, I thought a bite of the chicken tasted 'like death' and I've been put off chicken. I would love it if this is the kick up the bum to be veggie that I need.

I binned the rest of it

If your nose is saying no, listen to it. Its nature's way of telling you to leave it alone (cheese being the exception).

Honestly, I always allow 24h on use by dates, but smelly meat - no way.

Op, I did this a while ago - had chicken from the butcher (so more expensive) and it had been in the fridge for around 3 days. It smelt a little whiffy, but not awful, so I just cooked it up as fajitas, plenty of spice and well cooked. It was fine - I hadn’t told anyone that I’d been a bit doubtful about and nobody thought it tasted off and none of us got ill. 🤞🏻 For you

My ex dp is an environmental health officer. He would definitely say if it is a piece of chicken and if you cook it thoroughly it will be fine. Dangerous stuff is things that are minced for example.

I have heard him say this many times as he merrily cooks something iffy. He is still alive. I drew the line at the chicken protions that stunk out the whole kitchen....it'll be fine he said. We had a takeaway. This is the man who will never ever reheat rice!

My friend has had to bin Aldi chicken twice that was bought that day. Chicken is a funny meat

It’s alarming that an environmental Health officer thinks it’s safe! As pp’s have stated cooking does jack all to destroy the toxins the bacteria produce
