Bra Size - Head Blown!

Nohomemadecandles · 16/06/2021 16:45

M&S - 42A
Boob or Bust - 38G

Used both calculators and I'm stumped.

I'm overweight and have never had big boobs and most of what I have now is fat but because I'm fat, they've spread across my body and are escaping under my arms!

I've tried a 38G but it was unbearably tight and flattened me out horribly.

I am slowly losing some timber but am I consigned to rubbish boobs for the foreseeable??

Apart from Bravissimo, none of the high street shops sell bras that are comfortable once you hit bigger back and bust size. I'm currently a 36H. M&S are bearable just (I literally buy these only for a very specific purpose, not for everyday wear) but the quality of their underwire is very flimsy.
Figleaves are good online, really decent range. You do get what you pay for so honestly spending £30-40 is worth it.
Fantasie Olivia and Carena via Bravissimo are my two favourite purchases of recent times.
You really do have to dangle to get it all in when you put them on though, otherwise even scooping (which needs to be done as well) doesn't get things in a comfortable place. Good luck!

I was told by the bra guru on MN a couple of years ago that i needed a 38gg so went for one, i found some tight which i realised was a good thing round rib cage but some the cups were big some smaller oddly the best ones were one style from tesco, one from Asda and one from tu at sainsburys! Cheap and pretty but actually comfy too. I think you have to try a range of styles, freya were also very nice.

I thought fig leaves had gone? I know they still sell on Next and Asos but I used to love their site.

Just get a Molke, fuck all that trying on twenty different sizes and dealing with straps falling down and backs riding up and boobs falling out rubbish.

Pashazade · 17/06/2021 13:22

@RainbowCrayons I hadn't realised! It appears they're now on simplybe.co.uk. I tend to end up doing a big bra shop every 18 months or so as they all wear out at the same time, so hadn't clocked this. Grin

Veterinari · 17/06/2021 14:23

What are your measurements @Nohomemadecandles ?

Nohomemadecandles · 17/06/2021 14:53

I'll measure again tonight

My friends were talking about a Molke yesterday just as I joined them and then moved on to another topic so I didn’t get in on the conversation. I’ve never heard of them before but I’m interested. They look a bit bulky in pics I googled. Are there different versions? Can they be worn say under a strappy vest type top or a low cut dress? Thanks 😊

Nohomemadecandles · 17/06/2021 15:15

I've just had a look at Molke. I think I'd feel sad wearing them. Sorry. I'm sure they're amazingly comfy but not my cup of tea, I'm afraid.

I think they look like sports bras with the graffiti on. I don't think I could wear them under any every day clothes, plus I bet they give mono boob.

I agree from the pics I’ve seen. I wouldn’t mind something comfy for everyday use, when I’m hanging around the house, but I’m not sure they would be suitable under summer tops or evening wear.

I’d like to have a review from someone who wears them before I try. They are a bit pricy!

partyatthepalace · 17/06/2021 15:45

Experiment, but I found that splitting the difference worked well

partyatthepalace · 17/06/2021 15:48

I couldn’t get on with Molke

Sloggi do cotton bras (Amazon) and do a couple with a 40 band - so a 40c might be good for you.

DENNYCRANE · 17/06/2021 15:57

Molke bras are absolutely revolting.

The only possible reason I can think of for wearing one is if you're too big to get into a conventional bra and don't want to appear on My 600lb Life topless.

randomsabreuse · 17/06/2021 16:09

Molke give a surprisingly good shape under clothes but are chunky under strappy tops. I get more support from the Molke bras than a "normal" wired bra.

I tend to wear mine under sleeveless (but not strappy) tops with a lacy top half and they do work with some but not all dresses.

I'm a very projected 28K and my boobs sit very close together even when free range so the Molke style works for me better than most other bras.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 17/06/2021 16:11

I think of it different bra styles and manufactures are all for different shapes.

I know that balconette bras don’t fit me as my shoulders are too narrow, also my breasts don’t have much of a gap between them, so if I try and wear a wide spaced underwired bra the wires always stick in.

You need to think differently about being a specific size and find a bra that supports the shape you are rather than forcing yourself into something which is un comfy.

Some have wide or narrow cups, are more rounded or pointy etc.

Just like buying jeans, they all fit differently.

Best thing is to try as many different styles and sizes until you find a good fit. Not always easy though.

MayflowerMaisie · 17/06/2021 16:14

I was fitted in Rigby and Peller a few years ago, it was a pricy experience, but they got be spot on.
I found a brand that worked for me every time - Primadonna, 36F.
They’re the best part of £100 so I wait for the sales and order a new one every year, so am building up a lovely collection.

I’m 55 and haven’t worn a bra for 10 years, I’m so oddly shaped that no bra has ever fitted properly. I have massive shoulders, a very broad back and small, widely set breasts.
I wear the soft, pull on sports style crop tops or m+s vests with a built in shelf.
I’m 40 inches under bust and 42 over but a 40b bra is uncomfortably tight and the cups are half empty, even if I bend forwards whilst putting one on!

MrsWhites · 17/06/2021 17:17

That M&S calculator is crazy! Told them I wear a 30d from next which the band is a little bit tight but everything else fits well. They recommend a 34B?? If I wore a 34 I’d be able to move inside it!

EBearhug · 17/06/2021 17:28

Listen to Radio 4 More or Less from last week, covers bra sizes and how bad it is, it's the last item in the programme.

This. The main message was indeed, bra-sizing is rubbish, and you'll probably be a different fit with every maker and every style. The main thing is to find one that is comfortable and supportive, whatever the label says.

Here'sthe programme link -www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000wsf0

But you still need a rough idea of where to start...

Nohomemadecandles · 19/06/2021 15:06

OK, so the 40FF arrived today. Band good on middle fastener, all underarm covered but the top half of the cup is empty. (I really do not have much boob fullness!)

Fantasie Estelle going back!

I'll try a 40F and a 38F?

OP posts:
minipie · 19/06/2021 15:43

Sounds like you have fairly wide set boobs (since you’re talking about underarm boob creep) and less fullness in the top part.

Based on this I would really recommend balconette styles as they don’t have the fabric at the top and work well for wide set

It’s as much about different styles as different sizes (sorry)

minipie · 19/06/2021 15:52

Also, second the Simplybe recommendation - loads of styles and sizes, order 20 and try them all, you will quickly find out which direction to go in.

cheugy · 19/06/2021 16:42

I'll try a 40F and a 38F

Try a 38FF. It is the same cupsize as 40F. As the other poster said, cupsize is probably not the issue.
