DD has her driving test booked for tomorrow. Her instructor has called and can't attend, what happens now?

Her instructor has had an accident in their car, unable to attend and use their car (we paid for intense lessons and the instructor is hired by the company)

DD is insured with marmalade as a provisional licence holder driver on my car.

We will call the company in the morning, her test is in the afternoon. Will she be able to take the test in my car? Do we need to do anything?

DD is clearly stressing over this very long awaited test. Her instructor isn't hurt just the car off road luckily.

Does anyone know what happens in this sort of circumstance? Fingers crossed we don't have to cancel her test tomorrow.

Top tip for next time - book the Saturday morning first thing test. Roads are so quiet.

Poor DD, it’s such a scary thing to do but the fact that she now knows what to expect will really help for next time.

And if she can take her next test in your car you can make full use of a driving cancellation app and get a test much sooner (difficult to snap up cancellation dates if you’ve got to check about the availability of the instructor’s car). If you don’t know it already, I recommend driving tests 4 all site/app. Good luck.

I sat my test last week. In my instructors car but when you exit the car to go to the test centre keep the doors open if possible, windows down. Ensure
It’s clean and sanitised, all door pockets clear etc (I’ve heard of people’s test being cancelled due to dirty cars/clutter). Make sure there’s nothing dangling from the mirror. The instructor will clean the car also before getting in on their side. Ensure they can access the cigarette lighter to plus in the sat nav and you’ll be good to go. Also check your fluid levels and tires are pumped up! Her insurance will cover her for the test :)

Oh no just saw the update! I also failed. Use the Testi app, you have to be quick but I’ve already moved a test from
November to next Tuesday to resit! Best £10 I’ve spent

And no warning lights lit up on the dash such as tyre pressure warning light or service light. I know one friend of my DD’s who was turned away for that.

I had a bit of difficulty with the Testi app (moved my DD’s test from a weekday to a Saturday, paid the supplement for a Saturday test, then Testi lost the date and DVSA wouldn’t give me my money back, Testi washed their hands of it, it happened twice!). The Driving tests 4 all allowed us to set day and time parameters and would book automatically around those dates if we wanted it to, so no rushing to act on a notification.

My DD passed 3rd time in December, she was so nervous the first two times, partly test nerves but also the prospect of failing during Covid had extra anxiety attached as there was no clue when things would start again or if the next test would just be cancelled. I am very happy not to be dealing with all that angst when she passed (just 24 hours before they cancelled everything again Shock )! Good luck to your DD for the next time OP. Good luck @Ivy48!

update

DD used the testi app and booked a slot for 8am this morning. She met her instructor at 7am for a lesson beforehand to get rid of her nerves and she passed Grin

Isn't it just the best feeling? I even got a tag and thanks on social media for helping her get through it all Grin

  • she is a fab driver after all!
