Does very hot weather leave you feeling unwell?

First of all I do love summer as I detest winter but as I am getting older I am finding I can tolerate heat less and less.
I have IBS but I find in very hot weather like we have atm I am feeling permanently nauseous, my stomach feels totally unsettled, I am headachy, tired and achy. I have zero appetite in hot weather. I can’t go outside for long as I feel just shitty, which is a shame because I feel I should be getting out there as these good weeks are so few and far between here in the U.K.
I love spring, I adore warm, comfortable late summer months. I long for summer during the cold, grey miserable winter months but as each year goes by I find high summer such hard work on my body.

Yes my body really doesn't hot weather. IBS flares up, I've got a constant migraine, hay-fever is a permanent fixture despite antihistamines, and I'm very lethargic.
It doesn't help that I sit in front of a computer all day.

Luckily DH also doesn't like being too hot.

MustardRose · 14/06/2021 09:45

Same here, I'm not a sun worshipper by any stretch of the imagination. I've got a load of work to do in the garden today (took a day off work) and I'm having to do 5-minute stretches, and then 10 minutes to sit down in the shade and recover. It makes me feel faint, queasy and give me a headache. The sun that is, not the gardening!

PopsicleHustler · 14/06/2021 09:46

Yes, hot weather upsets my ibs too. I dread it. Am currently sat here with the fan on. Nervousness also sets off my ibs too.

romdowa · 14/06/2021 09:47

Yep any extreme in weather makes me feel so unwell.

WellTidy · 14/06/2021 09:51

I have anhidrosis (inability to sweat) so I’m hot weather I really suffer. My body can’t cool itself down by sweating, so I have to drink loads of water to cool myself down, and then I bloat massively, and then I’m on the loo all the time. I get heat rash. I also get headaches every day in hot weather and have no energy. I never sit in the sun, I limit my time in the shade too. I’ve never tanned.

It is a pain in the bottom.

DidgeDoolittle · 14/06/2021 09:52

My IBS has been all over the place lately. It hadn't occurred to me that it could be the heat. I feel permanently nauseous at the moment.

I'm try to do some gardening but I can only manage 10 minutes before I'm running with sweat and feel ill. I'd love to be able to enjoy the sun but sadly it's not an enjoyable experience for me.

ImaHogg · 14/06/2021 10:00

I’m glad it’s not just me, I never say anything because I feel so bad moaning when we have such long, drawn out grey winters.

I hate it. Dread summer every year. The sun gives me a pounding headache, I burn unless I'm slathered in factor 50, I get a rash all across my chest if it's exposed to the sun even through sunscreen (polymorphic light eruption), which itches and spreads, and if I'm indoors I have a constant nagging guilt that I'm not out enjoying it.

CMOTDibbler · 14/06/2021 10:12

For the last year I've had massive sun sensitivity so get a horrible rash where I get tiny bleeds into my skin and feel awful so I have to cover up completely, wear a big hat, and wear broad spectrum SPf50+ on my face permanently. This is not fun. Am hoping the Drs find a reason and something they can do about it

LittleDidSheKnow · 14/06/2021 11:04

DH is an idiot not very sensible in the sun. He never sits in shade, always has his top off and falls asleep in full sunshine. He did lots of work in the garden yesterday wearing only shorts, and is ill in bed today, having fainted in the night. He did cool down in the pool for a while, but obvs that wasn't enough. Idiot.

For the last couple of years I've been getting a rash when I'm in the sun, even with high factor cream on.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/06/2021 14:14

Yes, I find it really draining and conversely my joints and muscles ache more in hot weather( disability)

Nickinoo30 · 14/06/2021 15:21

Im so hot in my office today. I feel yuk. Tummy is upset too which in turn is making me anxious? I just dont know what to drink to help?

Soubriquet · 14/06/2021 15:28

Yes

I get very drained and exhausted to the point of feeling sick

I make a point of not going out in the hot weather if I can help it

Yes I’m pale as hell, but I would rather be pale than burned and suffering from sun stroke

TheSunShinesBright · 14/06/2021 15:33

Yes, headache, sick and nauseous. Lethargic too and that’s in the shade or inside next to a fan!
I never sit in the sun.

wizzywig · 14/06/2021 15:34

Aah is this why I woke up with a stinking headache? I hate summer too. Makes my head and tummy hurt

Scutterbug · 14/06/2021 15:37

Yes, I hate it. I feel lethargic, sticky, sweaty. Tired all the time.

Iceniii · 14/06/2021 15:37

I really swell up. My clothes feel tight yet I eat less and more healthy. I drink lots of water. Not sure how to stop the swelling.

Frownette · 14/06/2021 15:38

Yes, it's horrible. My face is damp, and I think I get something like motion sickness? If I sit up too fast I can start retching.

Sore stomach here too

Blue4YOU · 14/06/2021 15:45

Me too. I have PLE as well.
But I’ve had intense stomach cramps, diahorrea, sweating, nausea, vomited once, for a week now.
And my seriously disabled DD apparently is the same so she can’t sleep, I’m lugging her around in my arms, she’s cranky.
Aaargh. I only like Autumn and winter

Wincarnis · 14/06/2021 15:49

hate it with a passion, always have done - I burn in about 10 mins. Constant headache, feel like I can’t breathe properly, don’t like summer clothes, feel frumpy and sweaty and old. Roll on Autumn!

YukoandHiro · 14/06/2021 15:50

Yes I get migraines when the nights are muggy. It's frustrating as otherwise I love the sun and heat.

igotdemons · 14/06/2021 15:51

Glad I’m not the only one, too! I have IBS and it’s always at its worst during the summer, I hate it so feel anxious which in turn then makes things worse, it’s a vicious cycle 😣 I tried to do some weeding over the weekend, in the very late afternoon when it was cooler but alas, 10 minutes in and I had a pounding headache so had to go back indoors! 😕 It’s so frustrating but I’m just not built for hot weather (think it’s my Scandinavian roots!).

OpalBerry · 14/06/2021 16:06

I'm OK if it's in the 20s if I can stay indoors but when we've had those heatwaves in the SE where it goes over 30 I don't like it. Think it hit 38 last year which is too much for me with the humidity and lack of breeze.
On the other hand, I've found now I'm in my 50s, if I leave too long before eating I feel unwell, whereas when i was younger I just felt hungry not unwell.

Pewpew · 14/06/2021 16:09

Sadly, yes. I have to be so careful, always sit in the shade, hat, glasses, suncream and U go inside when its too much.

OneMoreForExtra · 14/06/2021 16:38

You are my people! In theory I love the sunshine and summer, but for along as I can remember I've always felt oppressed by super-sunny weather. Memories of glorious summers when I was younger are overlaid with a diffuse sense of dread. I see the beauty, feel the liberation from cold-weather limits and love the flowers and wildlife, but can't live the dream. I feel vaguely hassled, am covered in rashes (PLE here too), rattling with drugs (x3 one-a-day antihistamines), swathed in hats, sunscreen and linen, and want to take my eyeballs out and scrub them.
