Anyone else noticing that pubs/restaurants are really quiet right now?

Hi,

So we're out as much as we can be right now, as who knows what's round the corner, but I've noticed over the past couple of weeks, pubs and restaurants are really dead. Even outside and in this glorious weather!

Has anyone else noticed this? I'm not in a covid hotspot. Cases are still very low here.

Went out to a restaurant this evening and having a chat while paying they are having a lot of no shows, people booking tables and just not showing up Sad very annoying as it’s causing a lot of empty tables that shouldn’t be.

Round here you cannot get a table booked in the city centre for weeks. I was there last weekend and it was so busy. More locally, our nearest pub was packed on Friday and Saturday night, inside and outside. Can't say about during the week because I'm not there then.

Very busy here. We’d booked our table and watched so many get turned away as they were full. Must be awful to have to turn away business after the year they’ve had.

@readwhatiactuallysay

My husband is a DJ, no the pubs and clubs are not quiet by us.
Wait....you have clubs? Awesome!

There were queues outside loads of pubs in town today. Our village pub was packed for the quiz the other night, which it never was in normal times. I've only been in one restaurant since restrictions were lifted, and that too was packed (Friday night, town centre).

I hate the environment now when you go into a pub. Check and trace, seated at a table, masks, can’t go and say hello to your friends at another table…
It’s not a place for general socialising anymore, it’s all very ‘sterile’ - I know it needs to be!! But the atmosphere of the pub has changed and I don’t particularly enjoy it,
Much easier to get mates round to sit in the garden!

@allthegoodusernameshavegone

We’re in a holiday destination & I feel it’s quieter than previous years but boy have the prices risen.
Same here, south coast If they have got quieter it’s becuase we have noticed the increase and that with the fact that lockdown has taught me to cook better and buy good ingredients for ourselves and stay at home, pay less and eat much better quality food. Now I actually resent paying £20 for a really basic and not well cooked meal whereas before lockdown I wouldn’t have thought about it That’s how l feel anyway Obviously I don’t eat in gourmet / Michelin style establishments though

We've just had the most profitable 2 weeks since we opened 13 years ago ( Xmas/NYE\Mothering Sunday/etc weeks excepted) Due to a lack of staff we ended up turning tables away as couldn't service them to our normal high standard. Long may it continue but boy am I knackered !

nc8765 · 13/06/2021 23:04

Can't book a table at a restaurant for love nor money round where we are. Everywhere is packed.

Titsywoo · 13/06/2021 23:09

Not in London - was out last night and had made sure to book bars as well as a restaurant so we didn't end up walking around trying to find somewhere with space. We were in Kings Cross and it was packed! Lovely to see. Most bars only allowing 1.5-2 hour sittings which means more people can get a booking and we got to do a pub crawl Grin

I'm in zone 6 and the pubs and restaurants here have been full most nights 🙂

CirqueDeMorgue · 13/06/2021 23:09

I work in a bar/restaurant and weekdays can be absolutely dead.

justasking111 · 13/06/2021 23:16

Tourism area we were rammed end of may school holidays so expected peace the following week not a chance. Cannot get a restaurant table after 530pm. It's crazy friend has holiday lettings booking solid until October. Another has said fully booked at weekends in restaurant until September

Nonmaquillee · 13/06/2021 23:17

Nope. London very busy especially with the warm weather.

SnowWouldHelp · 13/06/2021 23:21

The pub near us came under new management just before lockdown and was a huge pita. It's been great the last couple of weeks. I'd like to think the landlords have suddenly become considerate and started closing doors/windows when it gets late but suspect they are just not that busy.

Gertie75 · 13/06/2021 23:22

The pubs near me are much quieter now the initial crush has passed, we have 5 country pubs nearby which I often park by to walk the dog, when they first reopened indoors it was hard to park and there were always lots of people standing outside who couldn't get tables inside.
All that's stopped now, I went to one of the most popular ones for a meal last week, didn't have to book and it was about half full.

motogogo · 13/06/2021 23:34

Quiet today, they actually shut up at 8.30 having checked with customers if they wanted more drinks
