Anyone else noticing that pubs/restaurants are really quiet right now?

Hi,

So we're out as much as we can be right now, as who knows what's round the corner, but I've noticed over the past couple of weeks, pubs and restaurants are really dead. Even outside and in this glorious weather!

Has anyone else noticed this? I'm not in a covid hotspot. Cases are still very low here.

Nope. It’s impossible to get a booking anywhere here

Rosieredapples · 13/06/2021 20:10

Packed here every day and night at the moment.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 13/06/2021 20:13

Absolutely rammed round here. Tried booking a table for yesterday and the 5th pub we tried had one table free.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/06/2021 20:14

I've been to several, they've all been very busy. Can't get into a lot of them unless you book ahead

NiceGerbil · 13/06/2021 20:15

Busy here especially restaurants

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 13/06/2021 20:15

Busy here too although I haven't had occasion to go out after 10pm so don't know about then but everywhere I've been up till then has been busy.

LesLavandes · 13/06/2021 20:19

Agree Birdkin!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 13/06/2021 20:33

I manage a coffee shop so not quite the same league as restaurant or pub but we have less tables and chairs out and we’re still on reduced contracts but we’re taking more money than this time two years ago. We’re all knackered!

MarshaBradyo · 13/06/2021 20:34

Not here, really busy

Allthegranola · 13/06/2021 20:35

Absolutely packed here! I live in a popular seaside town though.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 13/06/2021 20:39

I've just been out in the city centre, and everywhere looked busy. The restaurant we ate at couldn't give us a Saturday evening table for weeks and weeks, which is how come we went tonight.

JustMeAndWheatley · 13/06/2021 20:49

Very quiet here, particularly at the weekends.

HareofEasttown · 13/06/2021 20:50

I went out for a pizza in west London last night - restaurant was two thirds empty but Deliveroo riders kept coming in.

Sad.

NiceTwin · 13/06/2021 20:52

We are in an area where apart from last July and August we have been in local lockdown.
Pubs are rammed!

readytosell · 13/06/2021 20:52

I live in a small town and every restaurant and pub the other night when I wandered through town was packed. My sister said the same about her tiny town the other day.

Quiet? Where?!

PinkBuffalo · 13/06/2021 20:53

Not quiet here just walked thorough our small town and had trouble getting past all the drunk men leaving the pubs they definitely seemed busy here

PicsInRed · 13/06/2021 20:59

I was out to dinner last night and walk ins were being turned away as the restaurant was fully booked (luckily we'd booked!).

It's busy everywhere, more and more people are coming out - and there is less fear.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 13/06/2021 21:10

I live right next door to a pub. It was bliss while we were in lockdown. Now they're back to the usual noise. Not as bad but Friday and Saturday are busy. The rest of the week is quieter although they have lock in every night.

youngandbroken · 13/06/2021 21:32

I work in a restaurant and some days lately have been so quiet that the staff have been sent home early Sad it's worrying because as much as it is lovely to have an early day occasionally, it does mean that we are losing money that we can't afford to lose when already on minimum wage.

RampantIvy · 13/06/2021 21:34

Not quiet in Newcastle

OrangeBananaFish · 13/06/2021 21:38

We were in town yesterday buying clothes for the DCs they needed. We decided to pop into a pub for lunch not really expecting to be able to sit down, but just checked anyway. There were loads of tables free. Pre-Covid we would have been really lucky to find a table at 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon.

They did look busy when they first opened when I walked past them.

My son works in a pub and he's been sent home most days, or messaged to ask to come in late. He doesn't have bills to pay and I often think about older workers who do and how they cope with the lack of hours Sad
youngandbroken · 13/06/2021 22:00

@blahblahblah321 it is a struggle I'm dreading seeing my wage slips this month and I can't pick up extra shifts (if there are any) due to childcare - but I'm still lucky in a sense because my partner is the main earner and his job is steady. I feel badly for some of my colleagues.

Skengman · 13/06/2021 22:03

Nah

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 13/06/2021 22:04

Rammed round here. Vomit in the streets the next day. Folk are making the most of it Grin
