DP and I can't agree.

Short or long O?

I say the o as in lock, DP says o as in oar.

A short o for me. Sort of like orry-o.

CaptainHammer · 11/06/2021 18:05

DP says it like oar-eo

He spends time in US for work so maybe he has it right but we say lots of things differently and both like to take the piss out of each other for it!

CabernetSoWhat · 11/06/2021 18:09

OAR-ee-oh in this house

SunshineSum · 11/06/2021 18:11

I've only heard it pronounced with a short o by any Americans I've met so that's how I say it too.

I haven't met every American in the world though.

HaveYouMetMyMateStanley · 11/06/2021 18:15

Or Rio. Other sounds weird but the more I think about it, both sound weird.

Awe-re-oh

kowari · 11/06/2021 18:36

Short o. I think I automatically translate it from the American to sound more English.

BiBabbles · 11/06/2021 19:03

In my head, it's Or-ee-oh, like and most words I can think of that start with 'or' -- though I'm Midwestern American with a mixed, mashed up accent so whether that's how to it sounds to others I'm not certain anymore.
