Are you aware of the more obscure boards of MN Talk? Share some of your gems

For the first time in ages, I actually had a quick skim through the list of all the boards on MN: www.mumsnet.com/Talk

Virtually everywhere I went someone had made a recent post (June 2021), often to my surprise, eg the completely non-descript Other subjects or the less topical Wimbledon, World Cup, Skiing and Christmas. Shock

There's even a board called Ethical dilemmas which appears to tick along ignoring its noisy neighbours in AIBU. Smile

The most inactive thread I could find was Refugee crisis which apart from one poster realising they were responding to a zombie thread hasn't had an on-topic post since 2019!

So can you find one that's even more obscure? surprising? Do you know a board with less traffic that you'd love to see get more attention?

Bonus question: what board should exist that doesn't?

@AnoymousCoward ohhhhhhh well that makes much more sense! Thank you

@Frownette

I wish the news board was busier, I was quite disturbed by some stabbings and other things a few days ago.

I'd like a weight board and also would like to go into feminism but am terrified of saying the wrong thing!

Come and join us for a quick one in the pub - this threads nearly full but there'll be another one along soon.

Wow! I thought this thread was dead after trying to get it started yesterday.

@R0SEMARY - thanks for the tips on the Feminism Board. As it happens, I do visit it a lot and (as a man) prefer to listen rather than contribute. That said, where I have occasionally made a comment I've haven't found a hostile response - but then, I don't try to highlight "man's perspective here", unless it's the rare instance of someone asking specifically about men.

the less topical Wimbledon, World Cup, Skiing and Christmas

Don;'t know about Wimbledon/World Cup/Ski-ing but the Christmas Thread is busu all year .
There's the Countdown Thread Xmas Grin
You don't want to know how many days to go , do you ?

And there's always one that will appear in Trending to which someone will sneer "It's JUNE FFS "

To which the answer is "Well this is the Christmas Threads sooooo"
(In the words of Kate Fleming) : Now stop making a tit of yourself a piss off" Xmas Wink

AlGorithim · 14/06/2021 21:35

I would like to see every single Christmas thread started in every single other board moved to the Christmas topic so we don’t have weeks of the following in every single board.

‘ILs ruined Christmas’
‘Crap present from DH’
‘Whyyy do I have to do everything to Make Christmas Magical’
‘DC ruined Christmas’
‘Exhausted, I’m doing everything because I’m a martyr’
‘Hasn’t Christmas been banned by Muslims’
‘Mil won’t eat my turkey’
‘I got socks from my parents’
‘Can’t agree where to open presents’
‘Can’t agree what time to open presents’
‘What are you wearing on Christmas day’
‘DH won’t wrap presents’
‘DH won’t buy presents’
‘I’ve got a payday loan to buy a huge pile for my DC cos all my friends are, send me money’
‘Real or fake tree?’
‘Should I buy Christmas toilet paper?’

And so on. Move. Them. All.

@AlGorithim - you missed the classic "Another parent at school complained because their DS learned from my DS that Father Christmas doesn't exist and now their Christmas is ruined" - dial up shock value by telling us the boys are 12 years old... Shock
