It would need to be a pretty wide bottle for me to get a hangover from 2 inches
Yep. I have about 20 different gins on my shelf here and none of them are that wide Grin

ShrikeAttack · 10/06/2021 09:38

I reckon a litre bottle of gin is about 8 inches tall up to the neck, so 2 inches is about 250mls, 5 doubles, that's hangover territory, especially if drunk in the sun.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 10/06/2021 09:44

Given it's only 2in, and assuming it's not the widest bottle in production Grin I'm putting my bet on sunstroke and/or dehydration rather than a hangover.

Get a cool wet flannel on your head. I also find (body temp regulation issues) that lying on the tile floor helps.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 10/06/2021 09:45

(obviously sunstroke and/or dehydration will both have been made worse by alcohol, but I mean it's not just a hangover)

Eh Confused I hope you're not a bartender Grin

Dioralyte if you have some in (or can get someone to go to the pharmacy). It will rehydrate you quickly. Always helps for me.

ShrikeAttack · 10/06/2021 10:01

25mls is a standard single, 50 is a double!

XiCi · 10/06/2021 10:01

I'm trying to avoid working this morning so have measured some bottles. Average inches on a 750ml bottle is 11 inches so 2 inches would be around 3 doubles. Totally depends if it was a new bottle though because obviously 2 inches from the neck would be a tiny amount.

I’m loving this thread, all the regular drinkers are in denial about the effects of alcohol consumption & the non-drinkers are all ooh that’s a lot of alcohol in one go.

I'm not in denial. I know!

Certainly not in denial about effects of consumptions of alcohol. Definitely am about the consumption of 2 inches from the neck of a bottle though Grin
PurpleDaisies · 10/06/2021 11:12

I have an empty gin bottle in the cupboard.

I feel some measuring going on later...

BrownEyedGirl80 · 10/06/2021 11:26

Dissolvable vit c before drinking and before bed

PurpleDaisies · 10/06/2021 11:29

I’ve used a bottle of 6 O’Clock gin.

When it’s full, the gin doesn’t reach the neck bit (disappointingly!).

2 in from the straight part of the bottle not affected by the “dent” is 250ml.

2in from the end of the bottle is 200ml.

The next of this bottle is 2in long and the capacity is 30ml.

I hope this is useful information!

@Iceybirb

Cheese and ham toastie, rehydration sachet, and iced tea has not fixed me.

Ugh. Too bloody old for this.

Marmite on toast and a fat coke, or sugary tea, then a takeaway later.
Bryonyshcmyony · 10/06/2021 11:45

@Iceniii

I wondered why I was hungover the other weekend, as DH only poured me one gin. I checked the bottle and loads was gone! But I had rose syruup in it do couldn't tell.

Make him use measurers now.

Dh once made me a gin and tonic so strong I passed out.

I won't let him make me a drink without using a measure now.

ILikePizzaAndWine · 10/06/2021 11:55

@Iceniii @Bryonyshcmyony I am a BIG gin drinker (far too resilient to it too, rarely impacts), but I won't have gin abroad as the measures are not only horrible to drink, but KILL Me! I remember once ordering a large gin 10 years ago, and it burning my throat. I didn't finish it, but I swear it made me drunk after 1 sip Blush

Iceybirb · 10/06/2021 22:41

I'm still alive!

I'm 37. It was Ophir, so a pretty tasty gin, not one you have to hold your nose to drink.

It's in a fairly fat/squat bottle, so maybe I did have the equivalent of 5 measures?

I blame the sun. I'd had a decent dinner too, so wasn't just on an empty stomach!

Love the maths calculations going on Grin

Bluesheep8 · 11/06/2021 07:07

2 inches from the bottle? That couldn't possibly be a hangover surely.

I'm thinking the same. I think sunstroke. Recommended cures are the same though, hydrate and eat salt and rest.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 11/06/2021 07:13

That is a lot of gin from an Ophir bottle! About 1/4 - 1/5 of a bottle!

XiCi · 11/06/2021 07:47

I always feel like Ophir is a bit cheap and nasty.
OP if you like the cardamom notes in Ophir I really recommend Liverpool Gin. It's organic and just tastes so much cleaner than Ophir. Similar taste but a million times nicer. Ophir tastes a bit chemically to me and just a much lower standard gin. I can understand how drinking a lot of it would give you a headache. Copperhead gin and Poetic Licence Northern dry are also good quality gins with that warm, spicy taste.

HoppSuisse · 11/06/2021 07:53

I did some measurements too.
I have a Hendricks 700ml - 14cm ignoring the bendy bit as it narrows and Bombay Saphire 700ml, 16 cm to the start of the bendy bit.
Converting to inches, 5.5 for H and 6.2 for BS. Having 2 inches of either seems a goodly proportion of the bottle (no idea on measures, here a measure is 4cl).

HoppSuisse · 11/06/2021 08:06

Measurements in the interests of science ..

Gin in the sun yesterday = dying now

XiCi · 11/06/2021 11:04

A 700ml of gin couldn't possibly measure 5 or 6 inches HoppSuisse. That's the size of a miniature.
