What apps really improve your life?

I discovered 'Waze' yesterday thanks to a post on here and it was really good on a car journey so it got me wondering about what other hidden gems can genuinely improve life!

I use:

NutraCheck: A calorie counter that has info about pretty much everything for sale in the UK and gives nutritional information to help me eat better. I'm slimmer and healthier for using this app.

Tile: This is linked with little 'tiles' that you put on your keys/wallet. Never, ever having to search for keys or wallet has genuinely taken a huge burden off this disorganised person.

PD: Period tracker. Thinking of changing it since they updated their calendar as I find it confusing but it's sooo useful to know when my period's due.

Indeed jobs app. Bit specific but it has my previous searches saved so just tells me if there are any new jobs in my categories. I'm keeping an eye on the market rather than hunting so it's a big time saver.

DuoLingo. I'm keeping up my French and have started Scottish Gaelic which is amazing! It's been a great lockdown hobby too.

(I also use apps for banking, social and shopping.)

What are yours?

Medisafe is brilliant. It tells you when to take your medication. You put all of your drugs into it with the times you need to take them (do this carefully).
Then when it’s tablet time it makes a noise like someone rattling a bottle of pills. Grin
I downloaded it for my Dad when he had a lot of tablets to take. Never miss a dose!

I use M. Cycles to track my period, and DD does too. It is very useful, especially for DD who can't remember her own name some days Grin. Mine are starting to be erratic, so it is good to keep track of them. I only use the free version though.

I love Duolingo, I have been relearning French on it, and intend to move onto other languages when I have time.

Ooh that sounds good. I can never remember if I've taken my bloody meds or not (even to the extent of sometimes going without as I can't be sure I haven't taken it... Blush )

The rattly pill noise takes a bit of getting used to-but it was very useful when there there were different drugs at different times. With/without food etc.

Tinder if you’re single and lucky 🤣

Words · 06/06/2021 12:16

Calm. Really good for relaxation and getting off to sleep.

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2021 12:17

The Entale app is good for podcasts. the one I listen to as they mention things they come up on the screen for you to click on as you listen.

MealsUp for menu planning

ApolloandDaphne · 06/06/2021 12:26

I have one called Shopping Uk which I use to make my shopping list. I add things when I remember or we run out and then in the supermarket you check each item off until your list is empty. I find it so helpful and I don't need to have a paper list every time I go.

MolotovMocktail · 06/06/2021 12:54

Workflowy for to do lists
Kindara for period tracking
Map my walk and C25K for exercise
MyFitnessPal for calories
Snapseed for photo editing
Healthera for managing prescriptions

QueenMabby · 06/06/2021 12:56

I have one called GetSorted through which you can review and delete photos on your phone. You can get rewards for sorting them (like a sticker chart for adults!) and I’ve gone from having thousands of random photos to just a few hundred. I now “sort” each month at the end and keep on top of my photos.

CarPanic · 06/06/2021 13:09

I'm definitely going to try some of these! Thanks.

Hm, I'm not sure that this will be for everyone but my most valued app is Kindle. I can carry on reading my book while I'm out from exactly where I left off at home on my actual kindle.
Plus it offers lots of insights... if you are into that kind of thing 📚🤓

cauliflowersqueeze · 06/06/2021 13:46

Definitely sleepcycle
Wakes you up within a window of time when you’re sleeping the lightest so I never wake up from a deep sleep. Made a huge difference.

FeatheredHope · 06/06/2021 13:48

Oooh medisafe sounds amazing.
When it reminds you, does it tell you which pill you should be taking?

AledsiPad · 06/06/2021 13:49

Audible. I love listening to audio books whilst driving to work or walking the dog. Keeps me sane, because I can’t think too much!

AnaVanda · 06/06/2021 13:50

Insight timer. Meditation music for sleep. Really works to help me drift off to sleep.

Yes, it tells you what tablets to take, when you last took them and you can skip, snooze (if you can't take them right that minute you'll get another reminder) or take them.

Also you can link it to a 'Medifriend' so they will get an alert if you don't take them.
And you can set it up to remind you to order the drugs too (it works out how many you have left if you tell it how many you have)

The main thing is putting the details in correctly, it's as good as your accuracy.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 06/06/2021 14:17

Nutracheck. I would be the size of a house without it.

MerylSqueak · 06/06/2021 14:23

I love the Squeezy app to remind me to do pelvic floor exercises. It's 2.99 from Google play, and annoyingly I did have to pay again when I changed my phone. It's really good though. 3 minutes where it times your reps and your done for daily maintenance, although I did it 3 times a day at first. The visuals are simple but effective. There's good information on how to do them. The notification is easily missed but I'm sure I'd never do them without it. I think it does other stuff too but I don't use those bits.

endlesscraziness · 06/06/2021 14:27

I use MY Weight to track my daily weight. Shows how crazily the scale can change but shows a graph to show it trending down

Nutracheck I'm trialling at the moment as I normally use MyFitnessPal

Rightmove for my property obsession

BBCGoodfood for recipes

Teams app so I can drive home whilst in a late meeting
