Where's my period?

Not pregnant. Not on hormonal contraception. Not any more stressed than usual. No weight loss/gain or extreme exercise. No jet lag or travel (I wish). They're all the things my period app suggested. Normally regular and now 10 days late. I've made a drs appointment but have to wait a week for it. I'm baffled.

Have you had a covid vaccination recently? That seems to delay it for some

Badfootkk · 04/06/2021 08:14

Wear your best white knickers and cream trousers ... VoilàGrin

SnowBrussels · 04/06/2021 08:18

I was going to say vaccination too. Mine is 10 days late.

Oh that's really interesting! Covid vaccine was 3 weeks ago so is that likely to be the culprit?!

@Badfootkk got some super skinny white jeans at the back of the wardrobe that I might just about be able to squeeze into!

My covid jab delayed my 28day cycle by nearly 8 weeks. It came back that heavy I was certain it was a double one.

Fruityfriday · 04/06/2021 08:35

Then I had my 2nd dose and it came 8 days early

boygirldogcatmousecheese · 04/06/2021 08:37

I love mumsnet! It wouldn't have occurred to me & I've spent a week puzzled by it

OP posts:
Fruityfriday · 04/06/2021 08:41

I was the same but after doing some research mainly on mumsnet it does seem to be affecting loads of ladies periods x

izzy2076 · 04/06/2021 08:43

Ive just come on today a week late too for the first time in my life. It's the jab or peri for me I think.

Macaronirabbit · 04/06/2021 08:45

My (normally 24 day cycle) period was 3 weeks late after covid jab.
And had a horrendous flooding issue on a hot day at work!BlushBlush

Stokey · 04/06/2021 08:48

After my second jab, mine was a week late and heavier than usual. Now I've got another one 12 days later. No idea what is going on but sure it's linked to the vaccination.

That's really weird? Seeing as though so many are posting this I'm hoping a science bod steps up and gives some reasons why!?
ShockOche · 04/06/2021 08:55

I think I have it.

4 days early. Never been this early in 27 years…

Also blaming vaccine

Fruityfriday · 04/06/2021 08:57

If the jab was causing issues with mens Willie's there would be research ! It's far to easy to put it down the women's problems.

Iknowtheanswer · 04/06/2021 09:01

I've been getting periods every two weeks last few months, then had my first covid jab and it was six weeks which was wonderful.

Also completey got rid of my hay-fever within three hours of the jab. Strong stuff.

On another thread, someone said that the womb lining is linked to the immune system so it can get messed up by the vaccine (non sciencey explanation!)

SoupDragon · 04/06/2021 09:09

This is from an article linked to the other thread:

Now an immunologist has explained what could be going on. Dr Victoria Male, a reproductive immunologist at Imperial College London, spoke to the BBC about the close relationship between our menstrual cycles and our immune systems.

She explained that there are numerous immune cells throughout the body, especially in the uterus and womb where they work to regulate when, and how heavily, we bleed if an egg isn't fertilised.

The chemical signals released by a vaccine can temporarily impact these immune cells, causing spotting and irregular periods. Inflammation in the body, caused when the body is fighting off illness or making antibodies after a vaccine, can also affect the timing of ovulation. But she said there is no evidence that these changes are permanent or anything to worry about. Instead more studies are needed, she says, so women know what to expect when they have their COVID jab.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 04/06/2021 09:10

Ahhhaaaa thank you to the person who mentioned womb lining and immune system. Im on immunosuppressants and no one can tell me why my periods are now 35-40 days and were always 31 days before I started. Now that makes sense.

LadyFlossieParkingson · 04/06/2021 09:10

Wow thanks for asking this question

Im around 4 days late this never happens and had my vaccine in this cycle!! Ill relax a bit now and not expect a surprise BFP!

FlatterNow · 04/06/2021 09:11

Your period is with my period, OP - also very delayed, negative pregnancy test etc. And also had the jab a few weeks before I was due.

Pinkywoo · 04/06/2021 09:18

I'm the same, a week late and had my second dose three weeks ago. It's pretty frustrating as we've been ttc for 8 months and for various reasons don't have much time left. Sad

At 10 days late it sounds as though you had it just before you due to ovulate - so yes, that's exactly the point at which it would have affected your cycle if it was going to!
boygirldogcatmousecheese · 04/06/2021 12:25

It will be interesting to see when it shows up, hopefully not too long!

Teessider · 04/06/2021 12:29

I had the jab on may 1st and was due on the 5th May. Eventually came on on the 23rd May so it delayed it for me
